Has anyone successfully rid their nose of blackheads?

I didn't think I'd still have these in my 30s...gah.

Anyway, I've tried loads of things to no avail so I thought I'd see if anyone else had the same problem and had any products to recommend?

Recently I've tried the Neutrogena blackhead cleanser, Clean&Clear blackhead cleanser, and the Freederm cream facial cleanser.

Still look like someone's dotted my nose with a biro - please help!

I still have them. No advice really, just hope someone has cleared them!

HouseOfBamboo · 24/10/2010 09:21

The OCM (oil cleansing method) is good for blackheads. Mine have definitely improved a lot, and i also used to have dry flaky patches which have gone now.

TitchyWitch · 24/10/2010 09:22

Yes, since I started oil cleansing method they have gone. And interestingly came back when I gave up on it for a while.

SeveredArmbow · 24/10/2010 10:39

another vote for oil cleansing method here too.

cidre · 24/10/2010 10:40

What is this method?

DiggeryGravery · 24/10/2010 10:42

I have those strips you put across your nose wet, then they dry and you peel them off, ripping out your blackheads with.

[boak] but [effective]

Hang on, will find them via google....

I get mine from a local chemist but I've seen them in Boots.

Gory09 · 24/10/2010 10:50

just found this

It looks interesting but it says do it regularely but not too often. I am willing to give it a try but what is the correct amount of time between two cleansing? Would it work on DD1 who is starting to spot quit a bit?

Gory09 · 24/10/2010 10:51

sorry for x post!Smile

ladysybil · 24/10/2010 11:08

regular steaming in either a steam room, or one of those facial sauna things you get from argos. also, lots of excercise where you sweat, and good skin care routine. that helped me get rid of mine. as soon as i stop doing the steaming, ie less than once every month, then they come back.

DramaInPyjamas · 24/10/2010 11:13

I just squeeze mine out!

WilfShelf · 24/10/2010 11:17

Boots organics foaming cleanser (its the brightening one - can't remember exact name) is utterly brilliant for keeping spots an blackheads down on my skin

motherinferior · 24/10/2010 11:19

I recommend getting older. One focuses on the wrinkles rather than the blackheads.

HouseOfBamboo · 24/10/2010 11:38

Gory - I clean with rice bran oil every night, but don't use castor oil. Rice bran oil (or sunflower oil) on its own is very gentle and I don't think you could overdose your skin with it.

I think castor oil is meant to have more of an effect (not sure why) and some people find it too drying. If you find it drying, only use at weak dilution, and probably not every day. Or not at all - I never use it and the OCM works well for me.

My top tip is to remove the oil from your face (after rubbing in) with kitchen roll soaked in very warm water. Repeat, then wipe with dry kitchen roll until your skin feels comfortable and not oily. I don't need moisturiser after that.

Adding a drop of tea tree and/or lavender oil to your oil is nice (about 1 or 2 drops per 500 mls of oil).

And yes, I would have thought it would work on skin of any age.

HouseOfBamboo · 24/10/2010 11:39

Oh and oil is brilliant for removing make-up - and doesn't irritate eyes (take out contact lenses first though).

DiggeryGravery · 24/10/2010 11:41

lol MI

Gory09 · 24/10/2010 11:51

Thanks HOB!

carefulwiththataxe · 24/10/2010 14:55

Oil cleansing method is working for me too although taking longer than I thought - after about 6 weeks I am seeing a definite improvement so stick with it.

Peaceflower · 24/10/2010 15:03

Hello, I used to have blackheads on my nose. This worked for me:

Hope that link works. It's for Philosophy Purity Made Simple.

Gory09 · 24/10/2010 15:43

Peaceflower is that it?

Peaceflower · 24/10/2010 15:54

Yes, Gory! It really works! And my skin doesn't feel dry afterwards. Very pricey but worth it Smile.

berri · 25/10/2010 12:33

Thanks for all the suggestions - sorry for taking an age to look back.

Like the comment about the wrinkles, I at least thought there would be a brief period in my life when I went from having spots to having wrinkes, but no!

I like the sound of the oil cleansing, as I also have dry patches here and there, so will give it a try. The Philosophy also looks nice but might have to be a xmas pressie so will try the oil till then!

Ooh also another q for the Philosophy users - which moisturiser (if any) do you use after the cleanser? Does it matter? At the mo I just use a Simple Replenishing one....

The bha exfoliator is the only thing that clears your pores- I have never looked back since using this!

In fact I use the whole range- and ater trying various expensive bollocks from clinique etc and always feeling dissatisfied with it- they don't even compare to this range!
