Are you bothered what you wear to drop off/pick up from school/nursery?

So, we are into week 2 of play school.
Today i wore my best "fat pants" otherwise known as "action slacks" to drop ds off and pick him up.
Today i have had a huge cleaning fest with him out of the way for 2.5 hours only, so am wearing my scruffs.
Im not bothered, hair tied back, tatty t.shirt and trainers.
HOWEVER, all the other mums are a bit fancy, tutty on and summer clothes.....is this the rule that no one has told me about? Am i supposed to look like this?
Will i be banished from the circle that is the play school posh totty?

Ive been happily scrubbing every thing in sight, i only have 2.5 hours!

Should i make an effort....because quite frankly i cant be bothered.......just noticed bleach all over the leg of my best fat pant...oh bugger...

AM A TRAMP!

Class 5 parents look sooooooooo funny all dolled up with their posh outfits on

They look like they all "do lunch"

One of them arrived last week in her convertable merc and left the roof off to totter into the playground, I soooooo wanted the heavens to open and see her totter back to her soggy car

DS's class 6, parents just wear ordinary clothes

spacecadet · 12/09/2005 13:29

sleepy suzy!!
enid, you still sound more glam than me

Donbean · 12/09/2005 13:30

"do lunch"! LOL Kanga!
They wont be inviting me " that scruffy one with the bleachy huffy pants" will they!

That's not very nice RTKM - I drive a convertible and often have my roof down !! Hope other mums at my school don't hate me for it !

spacecadet · 12/09/2005 13:33

well if you were at my school donbean, i would invite you, but i dont do lunch or coffee mornings cos im a miserable old bag.

Enid · 12/09/2005 13:33

what are bleachy pants?

Skate · 12/09/2005 13:33

I wouldn't say I get tarted up but I like to look presentable whether I'm running to Tesco or doing the school run. If lippy had rubbed off I'm afraid i would reapply it, brush hair, might change top if it had baby dinner on it.

It's not about being accepted or trying to look 'posh' - I just don'tlike being a scruff bag.

acnebride · 12/09/2005 13:34

ok if i'm perfectly honest i feel a bit embarrassed picking up ds in my work clothes, which i always do

because usually at that time it's mostly the older ladies seeing me, and i imagine they are thinking 'ah, poor little mite, his mum goes out to work'.

projection or what? Can't get over myself at the moment.

bleachy pants excellent conversation starter.

SleepySuzy · 12/09/2005 13:34

I go to nursery dressed like this

SleepySuzy · 12/09/2005 13:35

I vary it, obviously.

Donbean · 12/09/2005 13:35

Ta spacecadet, i dont do lunch either so i would gracefully decline BUT im known to do coffee and cakes so i would agree to that any day of the week...even with miserable old bags...you would be in good company with me!

acnebride a friend of mine used to work as a lawyer and picked her son up from preschool in her suit (occassionally) the other mums used to stare at her like she was from another planet. poor her.

Enid · 12/09/2005 13:36

dont laugh suzy

dd1's best friends mum wears an outfit like the purple hatted one

Donbean · 12/09/2005 13:37

Bleachy pants equate to £5 jogging pant from matalan with a bleach trail up one leg from slopping it while bleaching the loo!

I AM a bloody tramp!

Donbean · 12/09/2005 13:40

I just LOVE my sloppy comfy clothes and yes i suppose i do look scruffy but hey, im alright!

I do scrub up ok when i try though i have to say.

My question is still...does it really matter?

OP posts:
Skate · 12/09/2005 13:41

I don't think it matters. I wouldn't think anything if a mum turned up a sloppy outfit cos they'd been cleaning or whatever.

spacecadet · 12/09/2005 13:42

so long as you actually pick your child up!

charliecat · 12/09/2005 13:42

No matter how much effort I put into looking good i still look a state so i dont bother trying. I have a bath, get dressed in something that fits comfortably brush my hair and leave.
I would do lippy and make up if it didnt drip off in the first hour.

Lucycat · 12/09/2005 13:42

I don't do lunch either......but I do eat my dinner. That's a whole different thread and a northern thing.

and no it doesn't matter unless you think it does.

beastbosoms · 12/09/2005 13:45
