Do you think a more expensive haircut is better?

I don't mind paying more for highlights (at Aveda). As do think that makes a difference.

Do you notice a difference if you spend more for haircut? Ie covent garden aveda v less expensive.

Any hairdressers too, wdyt?

MarshaBrady

"See I hate the massages, chairs and blow outs grin.
But will pay for nicer lighting. Less noise and less chat"

So true! I hate the whole massage, inane chat with hairdryer stuffed down my ear thing - would definitely pay for someone to notice I hate it and just cut my hair to suit me

MarshaBrady · 15/10/2010 20:37

Me too isel!

I want some one to say.

"Ah look what you need is this, it would look stunning on you"..

Cut

Nice flattering mirror.

Quiet.

Me with excellent magazines. Latest Tatler, Vogue etc

No chat.

No half hour blow dry, each strand mind-numblingly tended.

Pay.

Go.

name- Fernado at Glass Hair Salon right next to Barbican tube. But be warned he is very busy and only works 3 days. Other cutters there are Peter and Renee- both good too.

veryweirdteacher · 15/10/2010 20:53

blinking typo- Fernando!

animula · 15/10/2010 21:39

veryweirteacher - thank you!

polyhymnia · 16/10/2010 10:49

animula - you're right. I haven't had a disastrous haircut in the salons I go to, but having a great one depends on finding the particular excellent cutter/ colourist. So recommendations best.

Guess you mean Carolyn from Australia (head colourist) you go to at Worthingtons. If so, have been to her a lot and she is really great - and so down to earth. Would certainly recommend her to anyone.

Can you recomend a really good cutter there? Have never settled with one at Worthingtons and do really prefer to get my cut and colour in same plave. I ask because the wonderful Antoinette at Aveda, who I went to at years is so brilliant she now spends most of the year in the States at Aveda HQ! Changed to Hari at South Kensington. He's very good but retiring at Christmas! So I'll be searching for someone new.

polyhymnia · 16/10/2010 10:50

'place' not 'plave'. And went to for, not 'at' years!

MarshaBrady · 16/10/2010 11:01

I see where I am going wrong. I need to go for a higher up stylist. Creative director or something. I need to pay more not less so I am happy with it.

That will be my new tactic.

I have been going to Dessange International for expensive haircuts for 15 years and I think it is worth every euro! Through thick and thin, I have never scrimped on hair cuts.

I don't colour these days (though will probably have to start again within a few years!). Frankly I'd much rather spend the money on a fab cut than on colour.

Bonsoir · 16/10/2010 11:12

Oh, and I am totally faithful to particular stylists (until I get fed up with the style or they move).

TrillianSlasher · 16/10/2010 11:12

Cut? No. The best cut is one done by someone who does as you ask, which doesn't seem to correlate with price.

Colour - yes, especially if highlights/lowlights rather than just an all-over colour.

Bonsoir · 16/10/2010 11:13

The first pic of Nadja Auermann is miles the best cut.

Don't do the fringe...

Bonsoir · 16/10/2010 11:14

You should pop over to Paris for the day on Eurostar and I'll make you an appointment with a stylist at Dessange Smile

TrillianSlasher · 16/10/2010 11:16

Libras I agree - a lot of haridressers who are supposedly wonderful with straight hair have no clue whatsoever how to deal with curly hair.

MarshaBrady · 16/10/2010 11:16

Not doing fringe anymore. Moment of madness.

btw a french bf hated fringes with a phobia passion. Always wondered if it was a french thing?

OP posts:
TrillianSlasher · 16/10/2010 11:18

No - don't do that fringe. I've known a few woman get fringes cut in in the past couple of years and they all without fail grew them out straight away - not one got the fringe re-cut-in at their next cut.

MarshaBrady · 16/10/2010 11:18

Oh I'd love to do that Bonsoir! Will let you know when I have the funds. For shopping too.

Do you have lovely, thick hair (that would help me I think).

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 16/10/2010 11:19

If you want Chloé hair you need to be prepared to have someone else blow dry your hair after every wash...

Bonsoir · 16/10/2010 11:20

No, I don't (very sadly). It is straight but not poker straight, so it blow dries well into a style for a night out.

I keep it quite short as otherwise it tends to get very limp - I spend too much time in the elements for long hair Sad

Bonsoir · 16/10/2010 11:22

Save up for a Eurostar day trip (there are often special offers mid-week for day trips in mid-winter) and I'll meet you at Gare du Nord and we can go straight to Dessange for hair and manicure, lunch at l'Avenue and a good shop in Avenue Montaigne and at Le Bon Marché Smile

MarshaBrady · 16/10/2010 11:23

Me too. I can't bear my hair too long, it is fine and very knotty. So not too many layers, no fringe, not too blunt. My options are (annoyingly) limited.

MarshaBrady · 16/10/2010 11:26

Blimey Bonsoir that sounds lovely. I am hopelessly hopeless at seguing between mn to rl.

I pick up new friends like rabbits at cafes, schools and everywhere but I am very bad at moving from written to real! I shall save up courage and £ Grin.

Bonsoir · 16/10/2010 11:27

Don't be silly - I know other Paris MNers and they are quite normal people that I bump into at the school gate and in the supermarket and have coffee with!

Bonsoir · 16/10/2010 11:28

Sorry - that sounded a bit harsh. It wasn't meant that way - I meant to be encouraging Smile
