What Do We Think Of Shorts And Tights?

MayorNaze · 19/09/2010 15:48

nice tweedy type shorts that are meant to go over tights, not some desperately seeking susan type claptrap.

a no-no on the over 18s? or doable??

I wear black highwasted Shorts over really loud tights, then again im not known for my fashion sense, i will wear whatever i like regardless of what people think. Grin

traceybath · 19/09/2010 15:59

Doable definitely.

MayorNaze · 19/09/2010 16:00

oh excellent. i have a vast collection of tights but am not so fond of the humble skirt - shorts much more practical Grin

will look around and see if i can find some decent ones. i predict a shopping trip...

tracey you strike me as the epitome of chic so if you do shorts and tights then it must be ok :)

Titsalina - i do veer toward the "creative" edge of fashion myself Wink

I sometimes still do city-shorts over tights for work, as they are comfortable in Autumn.

I wish I could still do the denim shorts and tights look I used to do in the 80s and 90s but my legs aren't up to it now.

MayorNaze · 19/09/2010 16:22

i did do denim shorts and tights a couple of years ago but was resoundly mocked by dh (thus happens a lot wrt my fashion choices Hmm)

i think that particular moment has passed but still wish to pursue the general look :)

BelligerentGhoul · 19/09/2010 16:22

My dds are doing it now and they look great!

MayorNaze · 19/09/2010 16:26

oh so do mine! but they are 8 and 4 and i am a very great deal older...

Definitely doable. I have some pinstripe shorts for work that I often wear with either black or opaque tights underneath, love them (am 37).

tulpe · 19/09/2010 16:28

I love the denim shorts over opaques but like MN & BG, I have now realised that twas my student look of choice in 1990 and therefore should not be revisited.

I have kept a pair of navy shorts in the wardrobe for wearing over the autumn & winter. Can't remember exactly what the fabric is but it is one which isn't particularly summery so they should translate to cooler weather wear. I thought perhaps with black opaques and either ballet flats or ankle boots with a mid-heel Hmm

Easywriter · 19/09/2010 16:37

On children aged below 18 fine (especially cute on pre-schoolers).

I think other than that, unless you look pre-pubescent or are a model in your 20's, much rolling of eyes will ensue in your wake!!

MayorNaze · 19/09/2010 16:37

oh marvellous! you'll all have to go out wearing your shorts and tights as well mind, as the only people i see rocking this look are long haired teen jack wills types!!

OP posts:
BelligerentGhoul · 19/09/2010 16:37

I bought some black silk shorts for my summer hols - but, being a realist, I have to admit they are far too short to wear here, even with tights.

MayorNaze · 19/09/2010 16:37

ssh ssh easywriter go away Wink

i have a fab pair of black and red checked short shorts from h&m but i'm guessing they are not the right type to wear over tights...?

Easywriter · 19/09/2010 16:39

whispers :Sorry!

Thud. (the sound of the door closing behind me)

superv1xen · 19/09/2010 16:42

i wear denim shorts over opaque tights, i am 30, i think it still looks ok {am i deluded emoticon} :o

in answer to OP - i think your combination looks lovely.

superv1xen · 19/09/2010 16:44

(the ones in my profile pic btw)

BelligerentGhoul · 19/09/2010 16:46

What's that awful, hideously expensive shop that the teenage girls with stupid comb-over side fringes like? Is it Jack Wills?

I once saw a VERY old woman shopping in there. She was wearing grey opaques, very, very short tweed shorts and a hoodie. She had short grey hair and was really skinny.

She looked absolutely ridiculous.

So - don't copy that look MayorNaze, whatever you do!

SixtyFootDoll · 19/09/2010 16:48

Aaahhhhh
The denim cut 0ffs and opaque tights takes me back 20 yrs when I was starting Uni.

Dont think I will be going back to that look again - would love to but no longer have the legs for it!

RolsGirl · 19/09/2010 16:49

easywriter- you don't have to be a model to wear sexy clothes! just wear clothes that fit you and suit you- that is the mistake people make when trying to follow trends.

MayorNaze · 19/09/2010 17:03

superv1xen you look about 21!!

BelligerentGhoul - that is mewill be me in a few years time haha

OP posts:
Easywriter · 19/09/2010 17:08

Um, Rols, I don't think you need to be a model in general, just in this particular case (i.e. shorts and tights)

My days of being a slave to fashion are well and truly over, I'm a strictly, wear what suits you and not necessarily what's fashionable, kind of lady!

However, I applaude those of you who do follow fashion ad look fantastic!

Tootlesmummy · 19/09/2010 17:09

Just wrong IMHO!

superv1xen · 19/09/2010 17:10

OMG MAYORNAZE I FUCKING LOVE YOU!! :o 21! 21! you have now officially made my year. i feel about 51!!

-dancing jig of joy-

:o
