Dress. Just discovered it is hand wash or dry clean only and I tried it on thinking it was a long top. Not sure I dare wear it as a dress. I did get 25% off it though.

Oh thats lovely with opaques and nice shoes or boots will be fab.

Just shove it on handwash cycle in your machine with some woollite and it'll be fine.

dexter73 · 06/09/2010 18:39

Keep it! It is lovely. I tried it on in the purple and loved it. It was too short on me to wear as a dress but I would wear it with leggings. I bought this one.
Did you get 25% off as there is 25% of knitwear in the Phase Eight shops and website at the moment and that dress is included?

sorrento56 · 06/09/2010 18:40

Are opaques thick black tights? The 40 or 70 denier ones? I have awful legs though. Thanks for the washing tip too Grin.

Yes, it was 25% off in the shop so about £51 though I had to tell her as it didn't come off automatically.

These dresses are lovely ladies, but I have to ask - when or for what are you wearing them??? I never seem to have a chance to wear a non-evening dress other than on a very hot day! I cannot picture myself in a winter dress other than out to dinner.... inspire me!

sorrento56 · 06/09/2010 18:48

Hanging out at home and the school run. I don't do a lot else.

anonymousbird · 06/09/2010 19:05

Gosh, an every day piece of clothing???? I will be looking more closely at the mums at school, as I just get the impression that it's all jeans and jumpers, but maybe there are a few dresses in there as well.... Hmmm. Sorry if I sound like a half wit, I am not really. Just genuinely interested in when people actually get to wear "nice" clothes!

nancydrewrocked · 06/09/2010 19:09

Yes keep it - it is lovely perfect with opaques and boots or ballet flats.

I wash all my hand wash stuff on the delicate cycle on my washing machine - although you must keep colours seperate as the dyes are not well fixed in hand wash garments.

purplearmadillo · 06/09/2010 19:11

I bought the other phase 8 dress someone linked to on here at the weekend, the oatmeal butterfly one.

But I also bought [http://www.fennwrightmanson.com/mailorder/product.php?xProd=2909&xSec=301&jssCart=a6dca4a6c4eab3d8e0cdd5451bd7f25a this one]]. I think it looks nicer so I am keeping it and taking the phase 8 one back.

I will wear it for work, probably not just for the school run.

purplearmadillo · 06/09/2010 19:12

Oops, another try at the link...

FWM dress

sorrento56 · 06/09/2010 19:22

That is nice purplearmadillo.

I wear dresses quite a lot just at home. Dresses are very easy to wear as you just put them on and that is it - takes me about 30 seconds to get dressed. Knitted and jersey dresses are so comfortable to wear as well as there are no waist bands to dig in.

sorrento56 · 06/09/2010 19:37

Exactly :).

It's going back.

I give up on shopping.

I have 3 stone to lose.

apple99 · 07/09/2010 08:07

I bought that dress on-line last night with the 25% off. I have last years version which was also handwash and I put it in the machine on the handwash cycle and it has been fine.

Can I ask how tall you are sorrento for it to be to short as a dress? Am wondering now if it is shorter than the one I have.

sorrento56 · 07/09/2010 08:14

I am 5 foot 6.

I don't have the legs for it to be a dress but with lovely ones I am sure it would be great.

It is going back as DH hates it and it didn't look as good at home as it had over jeans in the fitting room.

OP posts:
vesela · 07/09/2010 08:22

Same as Dexter. I wear dresses during the day because they're more comfortable, and it's far faster to wash and dry leggings/tights in the winter than it is to wait for jeans to dry.

ebojones · 07/09/2010 08:24

Think it is definitely a keeper Smile
You can wear whis in lots of ways - daytime with opaques and boots, over skinny (or slim) jeans with ballet flats, with leggings... you could also pop a cardigan over it for colder days.
I also think you could dress it up for evening with heels and statement jewellery.
The cost per wear of this item is great - this is how I justify extravagant purchases to DH Wink

oldenoughtowearpurple · 07/09/2010 08:26

I would love to wear long tops and leggings but never know

  • what shoes to wear. For everyday they have to be flat or flattish and I cannot wear ballerina pumps as my bunions are too big and my feet fall out (and look awful)
  • whether it just looks too mutton-dressed-as-lamb (I am in my 50's)

Help laideees please!

diddl · 07/09/2010 09:04

OP, it´s gone back?

Thank goodness, can I say I thought it was bloody horrible!

sorrento56 · 07/09/2010 09:52

You can say what you like Hmm.

It is going back as it doesn't flatter me.

OP posts:
thatsnotmymonkey · 07/09/2010 10:08

I liked it!

Try it with thick black tights, flat knee high boots- a riding boot for example, and drape a think scarf around your neck untied- this creates a column of thinness down your middle. Try Leggings if your think it is too short and wear as a tunic?

I am sure it is short, but not too short, would you show your fanjo if you bent down??

Hope you get there with your weight loss...good luck.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 07/09/2010 10:26

I second (third?) dresses being easy to wear. And hurrah for Spetember - as it means I can wear opaques Grin

I bought this, only in grey/black stripe (not the grey marl version also on the website) and am wearing it today with a purple waterfall cardigan from H&M (a bargain at £15), opaques and black ballet flats. It also looks good with black boots.

It looked a bit Hmm on the hanger, and the tall, skinny model in the photograph really isn't doing it justice, either. I'm not sure what prompted me to try it, but it suits me (imo). I'm a size 14/16 (bought a 14 - it's better a teensy bit snug) and 5'5-ish. I have a big tummy, which this dress disguises without looking deliberate or pregnant, iykwim, and it gives me a waist.

diddl · 07/09/2010 10:31

OP-what´s the matter with your legs?

Mine are great from below the knee down (& I`m only 5ft so that´s not a deal of greatness) & find just above the knee OK with leggings or opaques.

How about an empire style?

NoahAndTheWhale · 07/09/2010 10:33

I like wearing dresses all the time Smile.

Although am wearing jeans today Hmm
