What can be done about blackheads?

Can they be removed at home, or would I be better off going to a salon and having a facial? I've had them for years and years but I actually feel really embarrassed asking about them in rl. Please can anyone help? They don't seem to come out very easily if I squeeze them myself (sorry)

Worth a try. I certainly wish I knew about it at 13! I'll be making sure dd tries it. She's 4 and watches me oil each morning.

I think, as I recall, you can rub in a bit of oil after you've cleansed, for a bit of extra moisture if you need it.

I used OCM last night, and had to use my moisturiser this am as felt dry after my shower. Will try with the extra oil tonight.

So... I've bought the Castor oil and the travel pots. Any advice on ration of mix castor to olive oil?

also would you recommend for my daughter - she has blackheads but also whiteheads - will it not make the latter worse?

Can you use grapeseed oil?

I use this on DD at baby massage..... thanks

I think they recommend sunflower seed oil - not sure if this is the same as ordinary sunflower oil - or extra virgin olive oil. I use about 75% olive oil and 25% castor oil but I have fairly greasy skin.

Bringing this thread back to life just to see how people got on. Did this work for blackheads?

Aprildaisy · 02/05/2014 00:43

Would love to know if this works Smile

MyLatest · 02/05/2014 10:22

Bumping! Someone must know if this works or if it's all a load of codswallop!

I've been using a mud mask followed by the REN glycolactic face mask and it has worked wonders. The mud draws all the oil and gunk out and the REN mask seems to clear away all the dead skin and the blackheads seem to work their way out afterwards. The biggies are then easy to remove yourself and then done more seen to come out over the next few days.

If you need a lot of extractions, maybe book a facial and ask for that as part of it, then try and keep on top of it yourself.

Another vote for ocm. I don't use castor oil. My skin doesn't like it

I just use hazelnut or rice bran oil.

I cleanse every evening. Fully removes makeup and takes less time than wash off cleanser and toner.

I then use a little oil to moisturise.

It's amazing. If only I had found out about this at 20 rather than nearly 40! My skin would have been amazing years ago and the £££ I would have saved.

MyLatest · 02/05/2014 12:35

That's great to know MrsFlorrick thanks! Do you use the hot cloth with it?

SavoyCabbage · 02/05/2014 12:39

I use walnut oil and about 20% castor oil. I do it at night and just splash with water in the morning.

I made up a small amount, about 100mls, and then adjusted the proportions as it was too drying.

Yes. Don't use a flannel but muslin. In fact DD and DS old baby Muslins cut up into smaller squares.

You could use a flannel if you prefer.

I can't use olive oil either. Gives me spots even though I have fairly dry skin.

You can also use sweet almond (mildest oil around), jojoba or grape seed oils. Easy to get hold of. My skin likes all of those.

What I like about rice bran is how easily it removes make up. To be fair sweet almond works well too.

When you massage the oil in, use upwards strokes and when removing the oil with cloth use down wards strokes so as to really clean the pores.
