Do you pack away your summer/winter clothes?

I never have simply becasue I don't have anywhere to pack them away to- though I might use a box under the bed if I can get rid of some of DH's stuff in it.

However, I find that I wear 75% of my clothes all year round- it's called layering.

The only things I'd pack away would be very summer Ts,a few cardis that are summer wear, and a couple of skirts/dresses.

I too have nowhere to put them really.
Like you I wear most things all year round, except for winter black trousers/linen trousers. They go in a zippy bag thing in the loft.
I am planning a ruthless declutter this week, and a serious assessment of my clothes.

moragbellingham · 30/08/2010 08:52

I'm going to put them in the DDs wardrobe.
Things like dresses etc.
Vests, t shirts get worn all year round.

Am having a bit of a moth problem though, lots of stuff ruined this year.

ja9 · 30/08/2010 08:59

yes, i do.

chunky jumpers, polo necks and wool skirts all packed away. soon all my linen trousers and tshirt tops will go - can't do tshirt tops in winter, always too cold!

lots of things stay all year round - thin cardis, work trousers, shirts, jeans...

deaddei · 30/08/2010 09:33

Me too morag- bloody moths.
I have bought a load of the little orange balls to put in drawers- but I am convinced some of the holes are originally made in the shops, and once garments are washed once, the hole appears.
Happened with "designer" tops eg Hollister, Superdry.

dexter73 · 30/08/2010 09:42

No.I have one wardrobe and that is where all my clothes live all year round.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 30/08/2010 09:47

Mine go on the loft - but just obvious things like shorts, beach dresses, linen trousers, summery skirts.
Likewise in summer I put away the chunky cardis, thick skirts and trousers.
Light cardis, blouses and t-shirts are all-round.

tulpe · 30/08/2010 10:00

I pack away my spring/summer clothes. I use vacu-pack type bags (Lakeland) so they take up very little storage room.

I need to be more ruthless this year, however. I tend to keep out vest tops and tees for layering but hardly ever wear them. The more clothes I have to choose from, the harder the "what to wear" question is to answer!

noddyholder · 30/08/2010 10:12

I wear everything nearly all year!Any worn out summer stuff goes to the charity shop but I wear sleeveless etc with cardigans and dresses with footless tights and jumpers. You are all so organised!

WhatsWrongWithYou · 30/08/2010 11:33

I think you're the organised one if your clothes are so interchangeable and cool you can wear them any time.

I'm guessing you don't impulse-buy tat bargains for your holidays only to find you feel ridiculous wearing them in the real world?

noddyholder · 30/08/2010 12:41

No I am a bit more hit and miss than that although post 40 have def stopped the impulse buying

serenity · 30/08/2010 12:46

There's very few things that I don't wear all year round, and they're mainly Winter things rather than summer things (jumpers and long sleeved t-shirts that I wear under short sleeved things when it's colder) I have a 'Winter' shelf, but that's the extent of it!

bellavita · 30/08/2010 12:53

Yes I do.

I fold all the clothes up neatly and put them flat in a suit carrier and then lay it on the top shelf in the wardrobe.

ladymarian · 30/08/2010 15:04

Yes I do. I put the out of season stuff in a suitcase and put it in the attic.

I've got a small wardrobe in my bedroom so it gets cluttered.

Its not a lot of stuff (sandals, summer dresses, linen trousers from summer and woollen jumpers, winter boots and coats from winter) but enough to make a difference

thelunar66 · 30/08/2010 15:11

Yes I do... but not until the end of September. I have a row of white Ikea boxes that sit along the top of my wardrobes, labeled with vaguely what is in them... shoes, casual tops, smart tops, dresses, etc.

Bonsoir · 30/08/2010 15:27

I have a walk-in wardrobe (that could be a dressing room if I got organised...) that I use to store clothes that aren't in use. That way my usual cupboard isn't too full. I do a bit of swapping around in September, once everyone is back at school.

Autumndew · 30/08/2010 15:51

mine are all waiting to go up the loft when dh comes home from Shresbury folk festival.I kept a few aside thank goodness as it is gorgeous today.I started Autumnifying my living room and kitchen /diner yesterday changing cushion s accessories etc. It looks totally different and has a much more cosy feel

God No, If I packed away even half my clothes, I'd have nothing to wear. Although I do keep my very best clothes seperately. I have some very nice suits, coats, dresses etc, that I have had and will have until hell freezes. The quality is good and I hold on to them for weddings etc, because I don't like shopping.

minimathsmouse · 30/08/2010 16:22

Ooh, I have just read the threads again, suitcase in the loft! Horror upon horrors, can't imagine how much washing this creates when it's retrieved. Perhaps I am just lazy.

isel · 30/08/2010 20:17

Yes, I put them in a suitcase under the bed - I like it as it makes me tidy my wardrobe, throw out things I haven't worn and I feel like I have 'new' clothes when the season changes!

mmmperuna · 30/08/2010 22:38

Most of my stuff goes through the year - skirts worn with flipflops in the summer are worn with tights and boots in the winter. Tops have a cardi thrown over etc.

Very obviously summer stuff like linen just goes to the back of the wardrobe.

mmmperuna · 30/08/2010 22:39

Autumndew am very interested in your changing things in home for seasons - do tell more please!

SolidGoldBrass · 30/08/2010 22:41

Yes: summer dresses and light floaty things and vest tops get put away in the winter, big bulky jumpers and all the crushed velvet gets put away in the summer. I have a big trunk (dating back to student days) and shove out-of-season stuff in there, changing over at the end of October and the end of April every year, but I also have quite a lot of things (jeans, lightweight jumpers, shirts) that go all year round, partly in case of unseasonably warm/cold weather.
