Do you pack away your summer/winter clothes?

I never have simply becasue I don't have anywhere to pack them away to- though I might use a box under the bed if I can get rid of some of DH's stuff in it.

However, I find that I wear 75% of my clothes all year round- it's called layering.

The only things I'd pack away would be very summer Ts,a few cardis that are summer wear, and a couple of skirts/dresses.

Hmmmmmmmmmm- you have all made me resolve to try to do something about this now!
I don't have many clothes as I am pretty good at recycling through charity shops, or Ebay.

However, I think I could manage to put away a few things- such as linen trousers and very obviously summer skirs ( 1) and Ts, onto the top shelf of wardrobe which I have "made" DH clear of things that weren't clothes IYSWIM.

Really strapped for space at home as my DS has come back home from uni with basically a house load of possessions and our modern house has very little storage space at all. Garage, loft and garden shed are totally full.

NomDePlume · 01/09/2010 16:14

I wear most of my clothes all year round.

Autumndew · 01/09/2010 16:15

oh and i have put a huge Autumn wreath in the centre of my table. It really is nice and was £1 at a car boot sale

Shaz10 · 01/09/2010 16:18

My winter clothes are just my summer clothes with an extra vest or T shirt underneath. :)

iwilldothis · 01/09/2010 16:59

Autumndew I read in house & home magazines every year about "autumnifying" your home, but thought no one actually ever did it! It does sound nice but don't think I could do two sets of cushions, two sets of flower displays etc etc.

As for clothes, I have a BIG slide robe but only use one section of it at any time, so have everything that is "in season" in that section and everything else in the other part. It's got plenty of hanging space and loadsa shelves. Probably too much space, really, as it means I don't have a clearout often enough Blush

Reading about sorting out autumn clothes made me decide to look at my tights today (a small step!). I have 9 pairs of grey tights, 6 pairs of brown, 5 pairs of navy, 3 pairs of purple and NO black tights as dd has nicked them all!
It is a good thing that I did this as I was going to order some new tights today!

Have put away all 'high summer' clothes so bikinis/holiday dresses/shorts and the like.

Wardrobe looking a lot less cluttered but sitll some summer dresses remaining in case it suddenly gets hot in september.

I put stuff in plastic boxes from ikea and stack them in utility room alongside all of ds1's old clothes which get handed down to ds2.

Autumnifying your home?Hmm surely this should be an organic thing Do people really do it?

Autumndew · 01/09/2010 22:12

nature dictates it so it is organic HmmI go with the colors i see all around me same as my clothes i wear different colours in Autumn/Winter .Cant see whats unusual about it

noddyholder · 02/09/2010 09:23

I wasn't criticising but it is a bit stepford wives Grin

batsforlashes · 02/09/2010 09:37

About 50% is completely seasonal so I put those pieces away.. Mainly dresses, skirts, light cardigans and shoes.

I love taking down the autumn winter box with lots of jeans ( the ones that I wear with boots) winter coats, jumpers and boots. I am starting to believe the theory that your clothes last longer this way.

AbsofCroissant · 02/09/2010 09:46

Yip. I do this, especially now that I have much less closet space, and DP insists on keeping his clothes in the flat (I suggested he kept them at work so I'd have more space, but he wasn't keen on it for some reason ...)

I was actually thinking about it this morning - doing a mahoosive clearout and changeover within the next few weeks, as there's a lot of clothing I think I can get rid of to make space for more
