Is this outfit okay for a Christening?

Black trousers and a black and white tunic?

It depends on the tunic. Could look a bit waitress like.
I look back at all my kids Christenings and i look like an old lady in one, a man in the other and like i'm going on a night out in another.
I'm waiting until this baby is 1 to get him dunked, hoping i might be back to my normal self figure and fashion sense wise.

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 18:51

Damn, I just don't know what to wear.

When is the Christening ?

Out of all my disasters the mother of the bride country casuals lilac dress with matching hat and shawl was the worst, I was 26 looked 66.
Nothing could be worse than that Grin

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 19:00

In a few days.

Link to the tunic? Really depends but agree that b&w can sometimes look waitressy, especially black trouser

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 19:12

It isn't on the site anymore, I did look.

Give me some other ideas pllleeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaassssseeeeeeeeeeeee

What about you then - height, size, shape? How about a more colourful tunic/top with the black trousers? Are you bf'ing or anyting that affects clothing choice? Budget?

spiritmum · 27/08/2010 19:30

How formal is it?

Personally I'd choose something nice from my existing wardrobe, the kind of thing I'd wear for a really good lunch out rather than a big hat wedding. But round here baptisms tend not to be very formal and jeans would not be frowned upon if dressed up. Black seems a bit dark for a baby's occasion but that might just be me.

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 19:43

I am 5 foot 6.
Over weight.
Big boobs.
Mummy tummy.
Fat calves.
Tight budget.

Last time I had to dress up I roped a friend in to help but now I can't believe I went in what I did.

I also have a wedding to go to in a few weeks and I think it will be too cold to wear what I planned too.

Could you wear white linen trousers instead of black trousers? Would that look less waitress-y?

Although know I couldn't get away with white trousers due to a small boy with sticky fingers that follows me round Smile

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 20:05

White trousers and me at a do, not really.

I have just thought about another top I have that is multi coloured and may look less waitressy than the black and white one?

Hello, I know you said your budget was tight - how tight is that? If you go to Hobbs and click on their Outlet page they have a jacket called Audley in a deep wine colour or a black/ivory small houndstooth - it is single breasted with one button and woudl suit your norks brilliantly (I know because I have the same sort of figure!)

There is also a long skirt called Audley which is black or a wrap Audley skirt in the wine colour which will treally flatter your mummy tummy (but you may find this a bit short), or if you click on the black/ivory jacket it links to some wide leg trousers that match (although this might look a bit work-like)

Or you could just get the black/ivory jacket to dress up your existing trousers.

Either way a good suit or jacket should get you through the wedding too, with the right layer under it.

Sorry can't do links, they don't work from Hobbs outlet for some reason.

I think I am going to dip into my savings and have DH take me shopping tomorrow but I will look through what I have already just in case there is something.

Are there any no nos for Christening clothes? I have only been to one and that was 20 years ago.

OP posts:
spiritmum · 27/08/2010 20:18

All black might get a few raised eyebrows but otherwise no, no rules. Smile

Have you had a chance to look at the Hobbs outlet site? Much cheaper than in their shops, all the sales have finished round here.

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 20:24

Off to look now. Thanks.

OP posts:
spiritmum · 27/08/2010 20:29

This is nice.

Hope you find something. Smile

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 20:31

It is smart but I can't spend £72 on a jacket.

I am going to find something in my wardrobe I think.

OP posts:
spiritmum · 27/08/2010 20:38

I know, it isn't cheap but will get you through the wedding and christening so that's £35 per event. Wink

Okay, so do you have any other trousers? Or black/navy or black/chocolate are good combos.

Or, if you went for black trousers/white top but then accessorised with a really flamboyant coloured scarf that might work, too. Smile

sorrento56 · 27/08/2010 20:40

I have other coloured trousers but none fit anymore Sad.

I have skirts but not sure if they are too casual.

OP posts:
spiritmum · 27/08/2010 20:46

What are they like?

spiritmum · 27/08/2010 20:47

What else do you have? (sorry, I sound nosey)
