34-33-40 how pitifully weeble-like do my 'vital' stats sound??

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 13:41

It's a far cry from the 36-23-36 that Marilyn's generation aimed for!

I know I need to lose a bit and I'm trying, but I'm only size 12, so people don't point and stare when I walk down the street!

Just wondering, what are your vital statistics? What is realistic these days??

Am I the only weeble?

where are you measuring?

bust-skinniest bit- widest bit?

underbust- in line with belly button- hip bones?

i've got my tape measure at the ready!

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 13:53

Around the bust at the widest part. Actually not quite 34!

Around my waist just over the hip bone, by the navel (the narrowest bit)

And around the widest part of my hips.

Now, I know my statistics make me sound like a weeble but I feel quite normal. Just feel like I could do with losing a few pounds (ok ten). I don't feel like I'm unusual.

I think it would be easier for me to conform to the pressure to be thin, than to conform (somehow) to the the pressure to have statistics of 36-23-36!! which sounds even more unattainable.

41-31-37

i'm 5ft1 and breastfeeding

I didn't even have a 23 inch waist when I was 11!!!!

RonansMummy · 27/08/2010 13:59

Its the bit inbetween the waist and hips thats the problem for me (38)

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 14:01

I'm also 5ft1. You're all boobs!

I'm all hips!!

TheProvincialLady · 27/08/2010 14:03

I'm 32-25-33 (Only 5'2").

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 14:04

you're all in and out too.

I am just up and down, no in and out. I need to wear a corset!! (no way).

OP posts:
RonansMummy · 27/08/2010 14:04

ooh you're lovely and petite! please don't say you've got a newborn, or i'll squish you with my boobs!

RonansMummy · 27/08/2010 14:06

val, you're a push up bra away from being a fabulous hourglass! I bet you look amazing in a pencil skirt!!!

MrsBadger · 27/08/2010 14:07

34-28-38
fat- arse-- english pear
these days we say 'apple shaped' not 'weeble' Grin

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 14:08

Yeah, a push up bra and a corset away from being an hourglass!!

I would settle for losing a couple of inches off my waist.

I was reading denise van outen in some magazine at the dentists yesterday, and she said her waist was 'back' to 26" and she seemed very pleased about that. so luckily 26" is the new 23". (23" would be impossible for most of the population)

No he is 20 months and let's just say that breastfeeding is my friendGrin As is having a 4 year old to run round after too.

I have always had a really small bone structure. Apart from being a bit wobbly round the middle (skin wise) and my boobs not being as perky as they once were, I am lucky to have a good figure. It's a shame I am really quite plain though! (Not joking sadly, but hey I can live with it).

mamatomany · 27/08/2010 14:11

Well I'm currently a good 14 - does 10 weeks still count as a newborn ?

I haven't been a 26 waist since school, a size 8 is 26 isn't it ?

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 14:15

I think somebody with a 26 inch waist could easily get into a high street size 8.

When you size read the guide at the back of the next cataloge for example, it says that 33 inch waist is size 18 (34"), but I can fit in to size 12 easily. Weird.

RonansMummy · 27/08/2010 14:15

everyone has different bone structure so 26 would look lovely on one person and skeletal on another, i think 31 suits me.

val, don't compare yourself to other people, tone up if it will make you feel healthier, but dressing for your shape is the best way to look slimmer :-)

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 14:17

yes, you're right. I'm not one for self-loathing honestly. It's just, all these years, my only goal and it has seemed quite simple and quite attainable (if I put some effort in) was just to lose a few pounds and get my BMI a bit lower.

And then it got me thinking to when my mothers' generation were young, and they not only had to be thin, but they had to have this marvellous hourglass figure as well.

claireinthecommunity · 27/08/2010 14:17

You lot are making me laugh Grin

Ok, got the tape measure out and: 35-29-37, I'm 5'7 and have put some weight on recently, I'm quite fortunate though, in that I tend to put weight on all over - not just in certain places.

I'd like more of a waist but have always struggled to find it, also have fairly broad shoulders. I am loving my newly found boobs though Wink

RonansMummy · 27/08/2010 14:24

i need to lower my bmi too, its technically, but only just, overweight. but ds is 4 months old so i'm not in a rush.

i think back then lifestyles were different so it was easier to keep trim, and there weren't all the magazines and media pressure. They probably wore corsets!

BoojaB · 27/08/2010 14:36

Never done it before, but I seem to be 35-26-36 (I think). My hips looks BIG.

SandyChick · 27/08/2010 14:43

Can't find tape measure to do fullest part of chest but I'm a 32E- 33 ish- 40 and only 5ft 2 Sad

My shape has changed so much since ds. I was a 34d so am narrower on top but with a fuller cup. Have gone from an hourglass to a pear as I have huge thunder thighs which means I've gone from a roomy 12 to a rather snug 12/14 on bottom. I'm a stone more than I like to be (late 10's) but I'm working on it.

RonansMummy · 27/08/2010 14:50

boo, you are practically marilyn! you don't have big hips, you have a small waist!

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 18:14

boo, you big fox!

Its mad that this thread has come up, since I was literally JUST ABOUT to post asking if anybody has a straight up and down figure which gets on their nerves.
I've never managed to get my waist below 31", so am 36-31-36 normally. Currently 16 weeks post-birth and am 36-34-38. Grrr.

Incidentally, this is baby #2. Do you think realistically i'll get back to 31" waist?

Its barmy coz I have really teeny wrists and ankles, but am just SO DAMN THICK around the middle Angry.

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 18:53

I feel like that... thick around the middle. Even when I was 8 stone 2, in about 1996 i bet I had a 30 inch waist.

I'm glad I wasn't young in the forties and fifties, my figure would have been very 'homely' back then!

I don't think that babies make much difference a year ON. I think it's what you have eaten in the last year.

Prinnie · 27/08/2010 19:01

I'm 32 26 38 and 5 ft 3, if I could just lose 2 inches off hips I'd be very :)
