Where does one purchase a nightshirt suitable for labour which isn't embellished with schmaltzy cartoon characters?

That's it really.

Tried eBay as I'm unwilling to spend much on something I'll probably piss, shit and puke on but I really, really think that wearing an Eeyore or Minnie Mouse printed nightie might actually hinder my ability to get on with the job in hand.

I got stripey ones from matalan. cheap!

nancydrewrocked · 26/08/2010 12:10

Extra large t-shirt from primark (I know I know....)worked for me Smile

brookeslay · 26/08/2010 12:16

huddle & bliss

spiritmum · 26/08/2010 12:17

There was something on ebay called a birthing robe which seemed to be some kind of wrap affair. Did not click on it as I'm not in the market for childbirthing stuff ever ever again but might be what you are after? Or might be utter madness, who knows?

Bacofoil · 26/08/2010 12:18

Do I spot a business opportunity here?

Cheapo nightshirts with slogans like 'I'm in fucking agony, make one more joke and I will shoot your cock off you arsehole' and 'MORE DRUGS NOW' and 'I AM fucking breathing, shut up and fuck off'?

TDD do you not think covering a cutesy nightshirt with every bodily fluid you can produce would make an appropriate statement?

Lulumaam · 26/08/2010 12:18

I bought two from matalan, for £4 each, they were sleeveless which was good and also knee lenght, which meant not worrying about my bum beign on show.. well, until it was action time ! Grin the one i delivered in is indelibly stained, even after a 90 degree hot wash, but i've get it for posterity.

munchkinland · 26/08/2010 12:32

I got mine from peacocks still had stars on it but was a better alternative to daisy duck! Ended up in a hospital gown though!!

GormlessHeart · 26/08/2010 12:43

Oh I know, the incongruity of a labouring woman in child's cartoon character nightie is just ridiculous!

I actually wore a white (I know) floaty cotton lace-trimmed number, I looked quite virginal. Well, apart from the massive baby bump of course. Was actually my grandmothers, she gave it to me! I have come across some sort of 'birth dress' as well online, probably cost a fortune...

GormlessHeart · 26/08/2010 12:46

ooh found it

birth dress

Nearly £50 in the SALE!

Asda do really cheapo ones! Just buy a big size so that you can fit your bump in and put the baby up after it is born for skin to skin contact! Grin It will get ruined, anyway, so save your nice ones for after you've had that well deserved bath!

Saying that, during my first labour I went in fully clothed and ended up in just my bra as I didn't really have the inclination to change my clothes at that point (lovely midwife kept me decent with sheets etc!) and with my second I had been in the bath and only put the nighty on an hour before he was born (was the same one I had packed to have DD in 2 years previous!), so I really wouldn't worry about it too much. You might never use it!!

Poledra · 26/08/2010 12:48

"This gorgeous wrap has a silver empowering print on the inside neck line - this will inspire you through the tougher moments of birth!"

Ah ha ha ha ha

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! PMSL!

PlanetEarth · 26/08/2010 12:50

I got a really cheapo one from a really cheapo shop - you'll chuck it afterwards, so who cares. I had actually tried to get a man's shirt or something from a charity shop, but they were more expensive than cheapo new nighties Confused.

littledawley · 26/08/2010 12:51

Poledra - Sorry! We obviously both liked that!

Bacofoil - love your slogan ideas - you would definitely find a market for those Grin

Bacofoil · 26/08/2010 12:54

does the silver empowering print leak morphine or crack into your skin, in the manner of a nicotine patch?

goodlifemummy · 26/08/2010 12:55

bacofoil Grin Grin Grin I want one of your t-shirts, when were you thinking of putting them into production?! I'd pay good money Grin

Spacehoppa · 26/08/2010 12:58

I wish I could find decent pyjamas. They all seem to have been designed with 10yo girls in mind-lots of hearts and polka dots. Wish I could find a nice plain pair.

MadAboutQuavers · 26/08/2010 12:59

Just read bacofoil's first post

Can't stop guffawing Grin

Once your in labour I don't really think you will give a flying fuck what your t-shirt has on it and anyway you will more than likely just chuck it after. Just go and get the Mickey mouse one and don't stress about it! :)

pallymama · 26/08/2010 13:05

I got one of these. Very comfy, stretchy wrap neck, so good for skin-to-skin/BF, and long enough to cover my bum!

veryconfusedandupset · 26/08/2010 13:13

Was |I shameless? took all of my clothes off and remained naked throughout! Could not countenance the thought of wearing anything at all.

ThatDamnDog · 26/08/2010 13:49

Oh yes, an empowering birth dress - just the ticket. I wouldn't mind but the carnage that is my body from the tits down after having DS is something I'm very selfconscious of. Or at least I will be until things get going. Do they do cupless smocks? Don't mind having my norks swinging around, welcome distraction I imagine.
