Hi All

Sitting here with rain puring down outside and have finally decided to put away (in top shelf of wardrobe) all my summer staff. Bye bye all my beuatiful short dresees, long maxis and strappy sandals...

Need some nice boots to cheer me up now. Anyone else done/doing the same

I am so tempted to but have some faith that the sun will reappear.
I really want to snuggle up in a nice jumper.
Am currently wearing a lovely dress as it was sunny this morning - is fffffreezing now.

NorrisMcWhirter · 25/08/2010 15:16

As I'm sitting here freezing in long sleeve top, tank top, jeans and sheepskin slippers (elegant at all times me Wink) I am thinking my linen trousers, summer skirts and dresses are definitely about to take a holiday. I could pretend to be sad but I much prefer winter clothes.

employmentlawquery · 25/08/2010 15:17

I have already bought 3 pairs of boots. I packed away most of my sandals yesterday, just left one pair out, and a pair of ballerinas.

AnyFucker · 25/08/2010 15:19

oh bloody hell you lot, stop wishing the summer away

dontcha know we are going to have an Indian summer in Sept/Oct ???

and those who pack away their summer staff, don't they make any noise ?

employmentlawquery · 25/08/2010 15:20

PS I haven't packed my linen trousers though, they are nice and comfy and I think, in navy and black, fine for a mild autumn day (will be with boots).

Neither have I packed up my maxi dressed which, in grey and black, I am going to wear with a 3/4 length wool jacket and biker boots, into the autumn,

We're going to Turkey on Friday - so have NO intention of putting away anything!! It's all in the spare room waiting to be packed!! (Sorry, all!)

No, it is hot and humid here when it is not raining ( South West) I will review next week when ds2 is back to school, but would hope to hold out until about 8 September!
Goodness me, the winter sales threads will be starting soon at this rate!

EasterEggHuntIsOver · 25/08/2010 16:02

I still have summer dresses I haven't worn yet Blush

Keep them out - what's the matter with you? Wear cardi over that flowery top. You'll regret it by November.

dexter73 · 25/08/2010 18:41

I don't put stuff away, as I only have one wardrobe so it all stays in the same place regardless of the season!

Millie1 · 25/08/2010 21:29

Waaay too early ... beginning of October for me, no matter what the weather Grin

traceybath · 25/08/2010 21:31

I totally retract my previous post - instructor at gym arrived in Uggs tonight, which she was very reluctant to take off, have been huddled under a blanket with central heating and gas coal fire on since returning home...and it is raining too!!

HinnyPet · 25/08/2010 22:30

My flip-flops and sandals remain on my tootsies from May til end of September!

Scuttlebutter · 25/08/2010 23:43

Cat, I do a wardrobe sort out/changeover every APril and October. There are many benefits. It is a good opportunity to review the items and recycle any that are old/scruffy/don't fit/look dated. You should never hold on to anything that doesn't fit you or that is not OK to wear (obviously an exception for sentimental items like my wedding dress). Secondly, it ensures you have space in your wardrobe, and it is not cluttered with things you are unlikely to want. Thirdly, although I have year round items like jeans and long/short sleeve tshirts, my wardrobe is seasonal. Winter is rich jewel colours, dark purples, deep reds, black and brown. Fabrics are cord, wool, cashmere, lots of fleece, opaque tights, boots, plenty of scarves, hats and pashminas. Summer is a completely different colour palette - lots of bright, pretty shades, with turquoise, corals, white and fresh pink/lilac shades. Fabrics are overwhelmingly lighter - cotton cardigans/twin sets, floaty cotton or cheescloth skirts, crisp white linen shirts and so on. Light sandals, floppy hats and beach bags. I love doing my wardrobe changeover - it makes me feel as though I've got new clothes to play with, as I'm unpacking items I haven't seen for six months - it's great. With that break, you really do look at things with fresh eyes and can often see when something is due for retirement or has plenty of life left in it. I've never had my colours "done" but do stick to a palette of colours that I know work for me and more importantly will work with what is in my existing wardrobe. I don't have a huge budget for clothes so I think it's important to think about cost per wear and ensure what I buy will wash its face, if you see what I mean. I also try to ensure that everything in my wardrobe is well looked after and hung up on the right sort of hanger, and not overcrowded. That way, it is very easy to see what you have got and can select an outfit easily. If I won the lottery and was able to affort a dressing room, then it would be a different story. Grin

lupo · 26/08/2010 08:07

I do put summer stuff away (in drawers and top of wardrobes) and bring out winter stuff as scuttlebutler said it's a great chance to get rid off the things you know you are not going to wear again. So far I have disposed of one pair of too snug cords, and two dresses. Have kept out vest tops for layering etc.

Am going to buy some new boots ....

I've been in my sheepskin boots for a few days now, my converse are just too chilly.

I took a bag of girls summer clothes to the charity shop today as I knew DD wouldn't be wearing the lighter stuff anymore.

Giddyup · 26/08/2010 22:22

September will be boiling, it was last year. My best friends wedding was September 26th and we ended up sunburnt and swimming in the sea with little flower girls running around on the beach with nothing on...

Scuttlebutter · 26/08/2010 23:29

HTH Cat Smile My other rule when buying clothes is to picture it working with at least three other things I own before I buy it. Obviously this wouldn't be the case for a ballgown, but Idon't often buy those!
I know what you mean about learning - I like it too for that.

Giddy - am so envious thinking about that lovely wedding on the beach - am sitting here wishing the heating is on!
