Dry shampoo. Fan or not?

I need to wash my hair every other day, but i've got really thick curly hair which i blow dry straight(ish) plus a very demanding 3 1/2 year old little madam, so I don't have the time. I usually wash it twice a week and have started using dry shampoo inbetween washes.

Has anyone heard it's actually bad for your hair cos it doesn't make sense to me clogging it with that talc like substance.

Also, which brand is the best? I use good old Batiste but it's so heavy and takes ages to get rid of the white bits, but it does work and it is cheap.Wink

Thanks :)

You sound the same as me, thick, curly hair, demanding 3.5 year old, hair wash every other day!!!

I do use Batiste to try and eek out my hair an extra day if I can. I have seen an advert on TV for a new dry shampoo, can't remember who makes it though, I was going to scour the shelves in Boots so if I see it I'll post again, it had black packaging and was Trevor Sorbie or another hairdresser type brand.

IHeartKingThistle · 25/08/2010 10:38

Brunette Batiste now exists - woo!

Tresemme have just brought a dry shampoo called 'Fresh Start'.

Haven't tried it yet.

iwilldothis · 25/08/2010 10:59

I use it & it gives me an extra day or two. I got the Brunette Batiste one....but has anyone else found that even it makes the hair a bit white/grey-looking??

yummum01 · 25/08/2010 11:52

Yeah definitely. That's the problem. The whole point of the brunette one is that you're not supposed to notice but you do. It's probably slightly less grey, but I don't think it gets rid of the grease as well.

I have actually tried the Tresemme one and it's less talc like but it's probably not as good. Having said that I probably prefer it because it's not so thick.

I bought the Tresemme foam stuff aswell but not used it yet cos you still have to blow dry your hair afterwards and I don't really see how that's gonna save you much time.Hmm
Anyone tried this?

Or, has anyone tried a shampoo that really does rid you of the grease for longer? There are so many that say they do but they lie.Angry

Ojon do a good dry shampoo called rub out cleanser which works great for my long wavy hair and is worth a try. It gets rid of that greasy limp feeling and leaves my hair smelling fresh and also with a bit of volume.

yummum01 · 25/08/2010 14:42

Ojon? Don't think i've heard of it. Where can you get it from? Is it expensive?

chardom · 25/08/2010 14:48

You can get it in john lewis I think and qvc also stock it. Its a Canadian brand which uses stuff from the ojon tree in the rainforest. The dry shampoo is about £15 i think but It lasts for ages. I have had mine for about 4 months and I use it regularly.

SweetBeadieRussell · 25/08/2010 15:03

boots do an own brand one whic h is less greying but not as grease busting . ok though.

MadAboutQuavers · 25/08/2010 15:06

Dry shampoo rocks!!! Smile

I've only ever used Batiste. Yes, it does make you look a little whiter/greyer, but it's such a life saver when you haven't got time to wash and dry properly.

I'm going to look out for Ojon now though...

chardom · 25/08/2010 15:07

Ojon one is more like a hairspray consistency and doesn't go like talc or leave my hair grey so it's a winner for me!!

NW20 · 25/08/2010 15:15

The Lee Stafford dry shampoo is really good. I have dark hair and it rubs in really well if you are thorough and isn't as noticable as the Batiste one.
It's about £4.50 I think, from Boots, but they always have it on 3 for 2.

pebblejones · 25/08/2010 15:16

I bought the Tresemme foam one yesterday and plan on trying it tomorrow. I have fine hair that needs washing everyday because it looks greasy and lank, I will review it tomorrow for you if you like?

TheLemur · 25/08/2010 16:22

I have tried Batiste and Lee Stafford and they both make my head itchy and I can't stand the smell, I think it smells grannyish and I'm convinced someone will know I've used dry shampoo! Is it just me?

Silvj · 25/08/2010 22:23

Am currently using Phil Smith's Dry Clean Shampoo (on offer in Sainsburys at 2 for £4)

Also like the Charles Worthington Front Row Refresh and Revive Dry Shampoo but it always seem to be sold out in my fairly large Boots.

Don't like Batiste & have gone off the Toni & Guy one.

yummum01 · 26/08/2010 17:50

Toni & Guy one is rubbish!! It does absolutely nothing. However it might be better on very fine hair.

i have dark hair and use batiste, are you using too much if it hard to rub in? i do find i have an itchy head by the end of the day.

TheNextMrsDepp · 26/08/2010 19:06

I am a HUGE fan of dry shampoo, having fairly fine hair that otherwise needs washing every other day. My hair now often looks better on day 3 than on day 1, with lots of extra oomph!!

I remember Batiste from when I was at boarding school (when it was regarded as a bit of a scuzzy habit), then it disappeared for YEARS and I was so chuffed to re-discover it a few years back (completely unchanged in design).

I generally use the regular Batiste, but recently heard about the brunette version and am going to hunt it down (agree about the slightly powdery effect you sometimes get).

I have also used another brand (possibly Charles Worthington - silver can with a purple top) which was less noticeable.

Surely it can't harm your hair?! Assuming you do wash it occasionally!

needchildcare · 26/08/2010 19:56

I use batiste as well, the brunette one, I love it, and can get an extra 2 days without washing my hair if i need to.

It also makes my hair look greyish, but its better then being greasy if you are in a rush... Smile

TwasEverThus · 26/08/2010 20:19

Charles W is 3 for £10 at Boots atm.

fayeso · 26/08/2010 20:22

I am dark and have very greasy hair that needs washing daily............I have tried batiste and cannot stand the smell-by the end of the day I have to wash it out which is not the idea!!!

I am using the tresemme one at the moment which does not smell half as bad(imo),but still think it gives my hair a very dryed out look-I suppose this is still better than the wet look I would have naturally on the day after I have washed it.....yuck-why can.t I be one of those people that can get away with washing it once a week?!!

AnyFuleKno · 26/08/2010 20:26

I use it once a week - I quite like the texture it gives my hair, although the smell is a bit opressive.

iwilldothis · 26/08/2010 20:35

I see Boots now have a few new Batiste ones...gold shimmer and silver shimmer....anyone tried them yet?
