Must buys for autumn wardrobe?

Summer is over, I reckon...so what are the essential colours and styles for autumn? I would quite like to buy a new coat or jacket, but am currently 32 weeks pregnant so would be buying it for post late September when I think I will still be a size 14...however, if I wait until then, all the good ones will have gone.

Any other suggestions for good (and in my case, necessarily flattering) buys for the up to Christmas period?

I would like a coat but no idea where to look.

M&S are way too short and Im not sure what the style/fashion will be this year.............

Crochet is in for Autumnn

Grin

I have no idea really, just eyeing up what dd has purchased this week

Little green military jacket from H&M
Crochet jumper from charity shop
Lace-up boots (distressed, brown, mid calf with mid size heel)

LadyThompson · 20/08/2010 09:01

Oooh, I like those boots, Mary. Am going shopping in Oxford today. Sadly, it's dire for clothes shops.

I bagged a couple of capes from my mum at the weekend - pukka 1960's-70's jobs. These have wrap-scarf fastenings and a bit of draping rather than buttons as I know buttons up to my neck wil give me a vast chest like a shelf. Not camel, sadly, but then camel washes me out.

I can do jewel colours, so am looking forward to buying those. Smile Can do black, too.

Tootiredforgodtyping · 20/08/2010 09:36

you are all joking about the capes aren't you? Shock

Bonsoir · 20/08/2010 09:39

So far I have bought:

Two tops from AW10 Marni Winter Edition

Knee-high flat brown suede boots and a cow-hide/skin bum bag (both fabulously lovely for every day wear) from a shop in Salzburg

A red and blue fitted check shirt in Super Dry

cyb · 20/08/2010 09:47

I would NEVER wear a cape. I am NOT a nanny on Nanny 911

spiritmum · 20/08/2010 10:03

Oh, I love capes. But then I always fancied myself as a girl about town in the swnging 60's - in the autumn at any rate. But there was are. Come next summer I'll be fancying myself as a flower child again.

Maryqueenofchocs · 20/08/2010 10:06

I've done poncho's to death, lovely fine knit ones for winter, and vast pashmina's swung over a shoulder and around, I think a cape is the same kind of thing....

zinnia · 20/08/2010 10:13

I quite fancy a camel cape and am ttc so would be v bump-friendly.

However purchases this season include Gap "relaxed tuxedo" trousers:
bit.ly/9MhdzR
(yes, that is Gap's brand spanking new UK online shopping site - atbloodylast)
Topshop camel shrug cardi:
bit.ly/d7zz1r
and, best of all, purchased just last night, Oasis's chocolate brown aviator jacket:
bit.ly/9rV0gh
a seriously fabulous garment

Still on the hit-list are a pair of flat, knee-high black boots (a nightmare for me and my 'generous' calves) from Duo and some cropped black trousers - either from Boden or Gap, depending on fit.

Am quite excited at the prospect of dressing like a grown-up for a season.

Maryqueenofchocs · 20/08/2010 10:25

Do we like this one??

camel cape

partyhats · 20/08/2010 10:29

I have bought this stunning little number from TKmaxx for a bargain price of £49.99. Its really good quality and v flattering. Just hae to wait till DEC to wear it as I am currently 24wks pregnant and the coat is a size small.

coat

Apart from this am on the lookout for some nice ankle boots and maybe another coat but knee length as I am quite tall. I loved this one last year in Karen Millen but no longer available. If anyone has seem anyhing similar please let me know!!

karen millen coat from last year.

partyhats · 20/08/2010 10:31

Why is it so difficult to find a knee length coat? I am 5ft 7 so hardly a giant.

spiritmum · 20/08/2010 10:37

Yes Mary, I do like it - double breasting not going to suit me, but on someone less norked, a good look.

Partyhats, didn't realise TKMaxx have a website. Not sure if this is good or bad...

Am very Envy at all you lot who will pop out your babies and pop on your pre-pregnacy clobber. There wasn't any discernable difference after my three came out. Not that much now either, to be honest. Confused

zinnia · 20/08/2010 10:37

partyhats that Gharani Strok coat is a stunner, worth waiting for!

Maryqueenofchocs · 20/08/2010 10:54

spirit I have norks and wore a similar one last year from topshop which unbelievably looked great. Have ordered, will let you know if I look like a ship in full sail....Wink

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 20/08/2010 11:52

Ooh! I wanted knee-highs but thought only ankle boots acceptable this season. However feel 'tis acceptable if Bonsoir is wearing. Paris, here we come! Grin

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 20/08/2010 11:54

DO NOT get the cape thing. Large shapeless jumpers with no sleeves, anyone?

Bonsoir · 20/08/2010 12:22

There are knee-high boots all the way up Bond Street - we went shopping there on Wednesday!

spiritmum · 20/08/2010 12:35

This is the closest I can find to the capes that I've just bagged, except mine don't have the sleeves. Probaby not the 'on trend' shape then. Smile

teta · 20/08/2010 12:46

The coat is lovely Partyhats-well done.Tk Maxx is my favourite shop and i always feel virtuous buying really good quality coats there - but then i spoil the illusion and end up buying three of them.[because i can't decide which one would be most useful and i end up buying - one in every style!]

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 20/08/2010 15:03

Good! I LOVE knee-highs but didn't want to spend £££ and then feel hopelessly unfashionable.

sweetheart · 20/08/2010 15:32

party - are you a size 12? If so look here

partyhats · 20/08/2010 16:16

Sweetheart - I actually have that coat already! Its from about 4 years ago and it is very similar to the one I missed out on buying last year but it is a style, cut and length that suits me so I shall keep my eyes peeled on ebay for a size 10 in the grey. Thanks anyway!!

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 20/08/2010 17:59

LTEC where is this navy military coat of which you speak?
