Hair products for long, VERY straight hair

I like my hair long, but I've got out of the habit of making it look remotely stylish since having DS. Am slowly trying to become stylish again, and my hair is top of my 'to do' list.

My hair is a bit shorter than elbow length, in pretty good condition, straighter than a straight person in straightsville and each hair is very fine, but I have lots of it, iykwim. Cut is nothing clever, a bit of layering - I used to be strictly a Vidal Sasson girl but tragically budgets have been somewhat cut since I became a SAHM!

Anyway, I just want to give my hair a bit of body and texture when i wear it down, and maybe a bit more oomph for staying in an up-do that isn't a simple ponytail.

I've always had greasy hair and have never got the knack of serum type products, so things that can't turn my hair into an oil slick are good!

I don't mind spending a couple of minutes with a hair dryer/brush/mirror every couple of days, but 2 year old DS prevents much more than that.

Really I want some magic texturiser/volumiser spray that will give me beautiful locks in moments sans effort.

Ideally would love a slightly more eco-friendly product, but having tried a couple of 'green' products that did bugger all, I'm not holding my breath. The environment may have to suffer a teeny bit for my hair.

Sigh.

So there is nothing out there for my hair....

Hello

I have super-fine hair too but not much of it so can't grow it too long before it starts looking a mess (sigh). John Frieda does a good frizz ease serum for fine hair, which you might want to try if your hair's feeling a bit flyaway. Believe me, I've tried every product for fine hair and this is one of the very few that works for me. I also like his volumising blow dry lotion (in blue bottle) though didn't get on with his volumising shampoo and conditioner from the same range.

By the way, your hair sounds lovely. Do you have a fringe? If I had your hair type I think I'd go for the Jane Birkin 60s look Smile

Your hair sounds very similar to mine. I have had a fringe cut in which I am so pleased with so would highly recommend that.

Cannot advise on texturising products as I don't use any.

I use Dove Therapy shampoo and conditioner. Its the ones in the red bottles. I find them really good and they smell great.

Also use a tiny dab of "Polish Cream" by Wella on my hair to tame any flyaways after blow drying. Bought this product from a hairdresser.

I have recently found (thanks to a previous MN thread) a salt water spray which gives my hair, which is very fine, a lovely texture. I can't remember what it's called - I think it's gosh or something like that. Superdrug sell it and it's in a black bottle but boots have something similar http://www.boots.com/en/Trevor-Sorbie-Beautiful-Curl-Beach-Hair-200ml_1014720/ here

You should spray it into your wet hair - then twirl sections of your hair around your finger, pin them up and let it dry naturally. Once dry or damp shake it out, give it a scrunch up and you'll have lovely summer / beach type waves in your hair.

I have vague memories that I used to use a salt spray. Maybe the Bumble & Bumble one? Back in the days when I was stylish.

Like the idea of a fringe, but (a) my face is oval, tending towards the round, and I don't think my hairdresser is up to the job of a flattering fringe and (b) I have really greasy skin, so terrified of being spotty nightmare. Could definitely be persuaded on this score, although would have no idea what kind might suit me.

Hadn't thought of flyaways, but being brutally honest, yup, definitely got some of those! Suppose it's inevitable with long straight hair. Think my sis' has the john frieda serum - will pinch some and see if it turns into an oil slick.

Thanks for the nice comments about my hair Blush I think it probably is half decent - well behaved, good condition etc, so it just seems so stupid to have it tied up in a flat ponytail at all times with no style whatsoever.
