I was talking with some younger (twentysomethings) colleagues today and it turns out that they all have a full wax and think Im a fuddy duddy by not having this procedure. Dont get me wrong, I like to be tidy but isnt this extreme? and, painfull? I dont get it. Considering most of them are single and dating, wouldnt a bloke think it was Christmas if this is what he unvielled on the first night or, am I just old fashioned?

Lol at Aitch!

If it makes you all feel any better I used to trim it but got lazy. A once-over in the shower is quicker.

And the Janitor is probably right.

Don't get the woman-hating aspect though. Does that mean we shouldn't shave our armpits either? (serious question)

Off to feed DS. Will be back......

I tried it once, recently. Fuck, it hurt. I bled all over the nice beautician's table. Never again.

Aitch · 05/08/2010 12:16

it's not the same, though, is it? armpit hair traps body odour, which is an unpleasant smell. pubic hair isn't trapping any stinks (for me, at least. )

there's just no way i could ever be fully waxed down there, not at all. the pain is enormous when i get my bikini line done (so much that i no longer get it done at all, since the waxer said that she'd never seen anyone in such fierce agony, and suggested i shave).

kittya · 05/08/2010 12:19

It is bloody agony just getting your bikini line waxed so, imagine yourself on all fours getting everything off!!

Pubic hair supposedly traps stinks ( pheromones) which men find attractive.

My DH actually likes bushy armpits and gets wild at the sight of a bit of stubble; I usually don't oblige, but it's an interesting fetish!

champagnesupernova · 05/08/2010 12:31

I made more noise having a bikini wax (normal tidyup, not holllywood) than I did delivering an 8lb baby.

Alouiseg · 05/08/2010 16:32

It's like all waxing, hurts the first time but subsequent rips don't hurt.

It's choice anyway not politics or feminism. You don't see many young men with hairy chests these days, they wax too.

Aitch · 05/08/2010 16:53

this, ladies, is bollox.

traceybath · 05/08/2010 17:01

I don't think a hollywood is terribly attractive past a certain age for two reasons:

  • no hair makes your hips look bigger
  • well after children etc - a little hair is in my opinion more attractive

I like a strip and am newly converted to the epilator.

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 05/08/2010 17:03

How can there be a trend in such things, its not like we all get our minges out and parade up and down admiring each others. I blame bloody "fashion" magazines.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 05/08/2010 17:05

No, sorry, definitely won't be done it again. Ever. I think the poor beautician thought my period had suddenly started half way through.

And having done it at the request of DH, I then wouldn't let him touch me - anywhere - for about a fortnight.

purplepeony · 05/08/2010 17:06

my son and his friends are all hairy- chests- and they are early 20s.

Personally, I'd freak out if I was with a man who waxed his chest.

I like my men hairy. everywhere.

Beauty therapists out there - I know its all part of the training, but do you feel it's a bit, well, personal - not exactly like doing a facial is it.

(off to have 6 monthly basic bikini tidy up next week, usually sort myself out with a shaver, so you can tell I'm not much into it really.)

fotheringhay · 05/08/2010 17:26

No blimmin way for me.

I agree with themildmanneredjanitor, when I was younger we could be thought attractive in massive holey jumpers.

Perhaps the pendulum will swing back (hope so but am possibly deluded)

kittya · 05/08/2010 17:47

life was simple when boys thought you looked great in DM's and tea dresses with your grandads cardi on!! I know next time we go out and have had afew they will start having a little dig at me like Im some old granny or, some sloven woman who has let herself go!!

Beautician mainly encourage it, from the ones Ive been too.

Except my cousin who teaches it and still finds it weird that young women all seem to have it done.

my butcher's-shop of a fanjo needs something to cover up the carnage

any man would run screaming from mine, in a bald form

traceybath · 05/08/2010 18:53

LOL at AF - thats what I was trying to diplomatically say earlier

AnyFucker · 05/08/2010 19:06

sorry for horrible image

bebesequin · 05/08/2010 20:30

All off makes your hips look wider - probaly just an optical illusion- but my hips need all the help they can get to look narrower so I will keep a bit of bush thanks!

kittya · 05/08/2010 23:03

Ha, thats so funny. I will tell those slim young things at work tomorrow that should entice them to grow some back!!
