How can you not have butter - surely the scone would be dry!

I went to Devon last year in August and it was blazing hot sunshine. Nipped over to Cornwall for one day and it pissed it down. Am off to Croyde next week so the sun better bloody come out.

AnyFucker · 04/08/2010 19:45

oh, I love Croyde

when I went to Croyde, there was a heatwave for the solid 2 weeks !

that was in July 2006, though

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 04/08/2010 19:58

Well there better be one in 10 days time!

SixtyFootDoll · 04/08/2010 20:01

I want a heatwave in Mevagissey starting Saturday please.
I couldnt get on any sites around Croyde, all booked up.

Bobbalina · 04/08/2010 20:02

Be sure to take at least 2 pairs of socks, I had to wear dp's socks

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 04/08/2010 20:04

Yes, and take bras. I once went to Keswick and forgot to pack any bras.

SixtyFootDoll · 04/08/2010 20:06

I have a habit of forgetting my knickers. Am forever going away an havng to stop off en route for multi packs of cheap pants!

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 04/08/2010 20:06

Ooh cream teas. Yum.

We went to Bedruthan last June and it was lovely - not hot but it was warm and we had sun while it rained on the rest of Cornwall. Hope you get a similar micro-climate in your favour OP!

One thing NOT to take is a TomTom. It will not know the way and you will end up taking your car down a road which gets narrower and narrower until you cannot go forward any longer and have to reverse for 2 miles before you can turn around.

oooggs · 04/08/2010 20:10

we did 24-31 July in Mevagissy and it was great, beach everyday (Gorran & Porth Luney) and had a fab time, stayed in a static and didn't use coats/jumpers, waterproofs or wellies once.

It wasn't red hot sunshine but the weather is fine.

SixtyFootDoll · 04/08/2010 20:59

Thanks for that Oooggs am getting nervous now. We are camping at Tregarton Park Farm.

oooggs · 04/08/2010 21:01

just looked at their site sixtyfootdoll and would you believe that the two beaches I mentioned are the closest to you.

It will be great (very biased as live in Cornwall anyway )

SixtyFootDoll · 04/08/2010 21:04

I thought they were, we are so looking forward to it.

SixtyFootDoll · 04/08/2010 21:05

Porth Luney is our nearest, hope to walk it at least once!

oooggs · 04/08/2010 21:17

that beach was great and the kids loved the blow up dingy we took.

if you do drive to that one the car park is in the field attached to the beach, it is so close you can see your car

feralgirl · 04/08/2010 21:32

Hahaha at TomToms + Cornwall; it just doesn't work in our lanes!

I don't understand why you would put jam underneath your cream Cream is clearly instead of butter and therefore prevents dryness.

Am willing to admit however that cream teas are Devonian so I will defer. Devonians def have better clotted cream; I am originally from North Devon so am in the priveleged position of having a very wide experience of clotted cream

I believe the queen eats Roddas though, and that's Cornish (but then what would she know?)

SixtyFootDoll · 04/08/2010 21:48

We have our dinghy and body boards in the roof box already!

JaMmRocks · 05/08/2010 08:11

at wide clotted cream experience!

tbh I can eat clotted cream on nearly anything (within reason) so it's not life and death where it goes in a cream tea.... Although I did witness some Emmits putting the clotted cream in the tea and looking around expectantly for the butter to arrive for their scones!!

Goober · 05/08/2010 12:34

Butter is needed. It adds a saltyness to all that sweetness.

pooka · 05/08/2010 12:38

Well I was there last week and had quite a lot of sun. DH and I both rather tanned now.

I think there are heaps of microclimates - can be pissing it down in Newquay and sunny in padstow.

Raincoat useful.

Fleece for evenings/windy beaches.

pooka · 05/08/2010 12:39

OH and under no circumstances put butter with cream and jam.

BIg scone. Heap of jam. Mountain of cream.

Hey presto!

MovingBeds · 05/08/2010 12:39

we used to pack some surfboards, a towel, a few clothes and some hash

notsleepingthrough · 05/08/2010 13:40

"can be pissing it down in Newquay and sunny in padstow."

which is the nice one and which is the one with the reputation for drunk teenagers?

AnyFucker · 05/08/2010 14:35

Newquay = drunk teenagers

Goober · 05/08/2010 14:36

Must have butter!

MovingBeds · 05/08/2010 15:27

newquay used to = big willys (the t-shirts[ink])
