Has anyone successfully managed to find a dress that a young teenage girl will wear to a wedding?

Said teen prefers the leggings/thick black tights and shorts look and Arthur Scargill fringe.

Have got one but suspect it'll go back... The dress, I mean, not the teen.

Any suggestions most welcome.

I got my 14yo dd a dress from Republic, like this

She normally lives in black leggings and worker boots

You may have to accept that she wears a dress with said boots, though, 'tis the fashion after all

Oh, that's quite nice. I She had a tantrum before when out shopping and I unreasonably said "Nothing from Republic"

The other difficulty is that we are going on holiday straight after teh wedding so wanted it to have dual purpose

I got dd a beautiful white broderie anglaise dress from New Look. It looks lovely until you get to her feet (she insists on wearing it with grey daps. DAPS I ask you).

Republic is often a very good choice for dresses - cheap and cheerful. Ditto New Look and Asda's teen range.

It's not all revealing, polyester tat and a dress like that will also go with leggings and a grandad cardi for winter

Nowt wrong with Republic. Just that I was not wanting to make the "lovely bonding shopping trip" last any longer that it needed to so wanted her to like the dress I was insisting on her liking.

Go vintage and keep the black tights- if you don't have any vintage shops near, something like this would work with lots of backcombing and eyeliner and white or gold ballet pumps.

but I wouldn't spend that much ££ on my dd, just for her to wear it once then fling it on her bedroom floor/ smear foundation all over it/ stuff at the bottom of her wardrobe/ generally treat it with as little consideration as the rest of her stuff

Sorry, thether. Thanks for the thought and all that but am with AF on this. Teens do not look after clothes.

She called me over earlier to look at the Republic site ha ha. I still like the M&S dress I've foisted upon her .

The M&S dress is nice. Daren't show it to teen as it's modelled on some 7-year old stages school-looking brat.

Think the stripy one is a bit too grown-up/gloomy for wedding/holiday.

Like the Urban Outfitters one but, again, not sure if = holiday/wedding.

Gulp but, like the Boden one But not enough time to ensure gets here before we leave (Phew!)

She's about 5'5" but skinny. So a 6 in dresses. Or an 8 probably

DD likes Johnny B - it's certainly a lot bloody cheaper than jack satan Wills.

ASOS is good as well I find.

DD veers from wreck of hesperus style (skinny jeans, hair akimbo, varioys band t shirts) to uber girly (cotton dresses etc).

I can't keep up.

I bought myself a dress from French Connection not long back and dd sneered at it and said 'where did you buy that, Country Casuals?'

Tethers - you wait.

Yes like AnyF's dd, anything will be worn, screwed up in a ball and shoved behond the headboard, until it's room tidy (and mum inspection time) where it will be shoved down the back of teh wardrobe, or 'hidden' under a pile of books.

Tethers - they nick your make up an' all, to the extent where I keep my make up bag with me at all times, and hide the rest away.
