Would a camel cape be entirely wise? Or a pair of houlihans a bit too avid?? Who cares!

Hells - Re 3 dcs...I'm sure you don't make comments in such a way as to render the MOT plus (mother of three plus) feeling the exact opposite of 'wonderful/amazing'... It isn't wonderful or amazing. Obviously all our children are, but we mothers are not heroic...and it just seems a bit silly on the one hand for people to say so...On the other hand, the thing that riles most are the people who look disdainfully on because you have 3 plus children, and make comments about coping etc....as if children are to be seen and not heard...and I know most people would be gracious enough not to actually say it, even if they thought it!

Oh dear, baby v tearful, so catch you later! Anyone else's 10 month old refusing nap even though they seem v tired? Are they growing out of it?

monkeysmama · 03/08/2010 11:25

I like these. Anyone?

The Outnet have some good bargains on Vanessa Bruno atm. I am lusting after a Marc Jacobs bag.

Dolcee - am going to Lucknam proper restaurant for my birthday and out for a curry for H's birthday - Rajpoot in Bath - do you know it?

MM - did you want platform/wedge boots - am sure I've seen some - will try to remember where.

monkeysmama · 03/08/2010 11:41

Ah yes NY I remember looking at your link and liking them. I am going to order them I think though debating colours. Khaki would go with all my grey and khaki but the tan are nice too. I am so avid atm.

I just want some new boots Tracey. I need a long flat black pair and something a bit more exciting which aren't too high. I like the clog or wedge styles.

DolceeBanana · 03/08/2010 11:43

Yes, do know the Rajpoot...it's lovely!

Oh, you'll have a lovely time at Lucknam too! Very good.

monkeysmama · 03/08/2010 12:08

Saw your post on school run thread Tracey. Makes you wonder WTF some people expect to read on a S&B thread as you said. We all shop a lot & think about clothes a lot. I think lots of us have been through the mill and found clothes and shopping a satisfying diversion. I'm pleased I care about myself enough not to want to wear a fleece and peruna jeans.

traceybath · 03/08/2010 12:23

Quite MM - people are just so snotty!

Also I know for me when I've been really worried about big stuff - I tend to focus instead on minor niggles as it makes the big stuff more manageable. Does that make sense?

rufus101 · 03/08/2010 12:27

Good for you TB and Marsha on that awful thread. People are so mean and smallminded on some of these threads. It's STYLE AND BEAUTY guys. Exactly what it says on the tin!

DolceeBanana · 03/08/2010 12:56

tracey - yes, agree...some people act like they are above fashion: 'oh, it's so....frivolous!' But I would rather be interested in my appearance than not - and DH would despite the ribbing(!) prefer it like that too...

And anyway, what is wrong with making an effort with your appearance...? I would rather rock up to school looking and feeling groomed, than looking grungey and unkempt... and it's because it makes ME feel so much better.

I also totally get the smaller issues being sorted relieves the focus on the bigger picture...I am like that too...actually maybe similar (it's the august bday)- I am a bit 'martyr-ish' too...DH will say this to me on occasions...! I protest but secretly he's right!

MM - Did you order the All Saints jacket?

Fel1x · 03/08/2010 15:27

Afternoon!
I've not been very avid at all recently and have been poor at keeping up with you all, apologies.

Notyummy, I like those boots you linked to as well. I may order! Will have better look later when not on my iPhone.

I haven't seen the school run thread you all mentioned. Will go and have a read now!

monkeysmama · 03/08/2010 15:32

Dolcee the jacket is hopefully my birthday present from dp.

bunnymother · 03/08/2010 16:44

Re the school run thread (haven't read it) - the concept that somehow caring about your appearance makes you vacuous is one of the most annoying misconceptions on MN. If you don't care about your appearance, fine. I think one should, and I do. It does not make me vacuous or stupid. I am neither. This thread is a little thread of sunshine that runs through my day. I don't stamp collect, I look at clothes. Also, I spend much of my day alone or unable to properly talk (ie breaking off chat w another mum to chase DD yelling "gentle, careful") so I need the adult company and stimulation this thread brings. Which is probably why most of us are on MN!!!

Thanks re the suggestions re help!! Think I will continue w some ad-hoc babysitting (esp as having to go to hospital for lots of testing and scanning at the mo') until get full-time nanny from 10am - 6pm (who cooks, cleans, tidies, does washing etc). Have wonderful DH, but he does work hard and does absolutely nothing around the house, except looking after DD/s. And I have no family here. So need to buy help.

Sorry to post me me me and then run, but have to do chores before DD is all mine again!!

Mumsnut · 03/08/2010 17:44

Re 'help': fwiw, when my youngest was born, I wanted an extra pair of hands - to hold the baby sometimes, do some housework sometimes, or just hold the fort while I got my hair done. I looked around for ages. Then it dawned on me that my loyal cleaner was a mother of three, a grandmother of three, and loves babies, so I upped her hours and it worked out very well indeed.

MarshaBrady · 03/08/2010 17:57

Bunny nothing wrong with buying help, it gives you choice. And my word I've seen some amazing nanny / child set ups where really it is just another fresh bit of energy and kindness.

I find myself in a place where it is the norm to dress very well so feel very happy about that (my lovely bubble!). I have no problem with other people doing as they wish or even thinking what they want to, but the only thing I would like to say to people who bemoan lack of time for nice clothes is that it doesn't take any longer to pull on a pair of AW riding boots...

Anyway when I read that thread I thought the op wanted help with what to buy, so probably misread it anyway.

hellsbelles · 03/08/2010 18:26

Dolcee & Tracey - thanks for the insight. I will ensure that when I do praise someone I think about my words carefully so they get my real meaning.

I don't think I'll even read that thread. I'm bound to get annoyed!

Feeling knackered and grumpy today. Not sure if I'm ill (or just perhaps post holiday shock )....

Though on a more exciting note...we've just booked a work 'reward' trip to Paris. And in true tacky style we're going to the Moulin Rouge at 11pm! Whether or not it's a requirement to dress formally I will . It's only one overnight stay (first night that both of us will be away from the DC since DD was born) and we'll be back in time to tuck them in the next evening but it should be fun.

hellsbelles · 03/08/2010 18:28

MM - I missed the jacket link? How far down is it?

traceybath · 03/08/2010 18:44

Hells - I'm grumpy too.

In fact all dc's in bed already - can hear them chatting and playing but just too tired/irritable this evening to deal with them for much longer.

My ideal help would involve some-one coming in at 6am and getting up with my dc's and getting them ready whilst I had a leisurely bath and got ready. And then same person could come back at 4pm and do dinner/tidy-up and bath time.

I'd then read some lovely stories to clean and smiling children whilst magical helper poured me a nice glass of wine.

I suspect I am confusing my life with that of someone in Gosford Park

This weather is confusing me at the moment and also the fact I feel fat - just don't know what to wear.

Need to actually decide on clothes the night before I think.

Dolcee - I whizzed into LKBennett today on way from dentist to waitrose and saw your lovely dress - I imagine you look stunning in it.

MarshaBrady · 03/08/2010 18:49

Hmm good idea on the early bed time.

hellsbelles · 03/08/2010 19:25

I hate grumpy - it's rubbish isn't it?! And it affects everyone around me when I'm such a miserable cow.

Tracey - that sounds like the perfect help schedule.

I agree on not knowing what to wear. I walk around clutching a cardigan as one minute I'm boiling, the next freezing. It's bizzare weather.

Why are you feeling fat? I can't believe that you actually are. Is it just PMT or something do you think?

monkeysmama · 03/08/2010 19:59

Hells on iPhone but it's the All Saints Post Commander. Have linked a few times. Woul love to know what you think.

Tracey when you find that helper, let me know . All I'd like really is someone to come for an hour around 2 so I could have a nap. And I only have 1 LO.

I'm being eaten alive by coldsores. I hate it.

I'm not on a diet as such but restricting my eating. I don't eat until tea time (evening meal). Well, that's yesterday and today. I have a coffee in morning, and sometimes at lunch time but that's it. Then last night I had sushi and tonight I had lettuce, tuna, onion, tomatoes and a large glass of white wine. Not as wise or targeted as most of you but I feel less bloated already. Though my coldsores show my body prefers lots of good food . Just want to feel better for my birthday.

hellsbelles · 03/08/2010 20:00

Oh MM - I love it. It's gorgeous. Lucky you.

hellsbelles · 03/08/2010 20:15

so the wonderous Carcifio amex25 code seems to have finally stopped working on my-wardrobe. Does anyone have a new code? I feel the need to get some leopard print

carciofi · 03/08/2010 20:27

Hells, just when I see several things I like on my-wardrobe, they stop all codes, even the Mumsnet one. I am going to save for the DVF leopard scarf as have decided it is a wise buy as I will never grow out of it! So to that end bought nothing today except Sainsburys baby wipes.

Trip to Paris sounds great ... are you recruiting?!

Donna Ida have some J Brand cords on sale.

Read the school run thread, fgs!
