Stupid, stupid new rule at work and we all have to wear jackets at all times. How the heck we're supposed to teach 'interesting and interactive' lessons whilst straight-jacketed is a mystery to me but that's what The Powers That Be now decree.

What the heck can I wear that won't make me look like a police woman and that I can actually move in? And that won't make me sweat in a stupidly hot, non-air-conditioned classroom?

And that won't need dry cleaning every week?

Or cost a fortune?

SO cross about this.

Get everyone one!

tethersend · 16/07/2010 23:52

You could all get these

BelligerentGhoul · 17/07/2010 14:05

Loving the ideas! We are already considering silver sequin bling jackets and/or straight jackets.

Please do Hi-de-Hi... then shout at the kids: "What do you think this is, some sort of holiday camp?"

If you think you are really likely to have wearing a jacket enforced come September what about this:

boden washable linen half price

I'm not a jacket fan and the only ones I wear are part of nasty work suits but I actually think the other two jackets left in the Boden sale are ok (dry clean though)

BelligerentGhoul · 17/07/2010 15:04

Thanks. It looks like the sort of thing I'd wear as a coat with jeans though, rather than as part of an indoor outfit.

It's deffo happening! I think some sort of short sleeved semi-fitted thing in a couple of colours is going to have to be the way forward but can't find anything at all that I like that isn't stupidly expensive and/or dry clean.

Have a look on Esprit. Just discovered Esprit and I like it.

mysteryfairy · 17/07/2010 15:14

Agree it is a very casual look but I think a bit of subversion is called for. I think it would look ok with wide leg linen trousers - you mention wide legged trousers being one of your looks. Or perhaps wear it with jeggings or similar atrocity if there is no explicit directive against them...

tethersend · 17/07/2010 15:19

Black one here

Red or white

JackieNo · 17/07/2010 15:20

Sounds like a ridiculous rule. But I've found a couple, though as they're in the sale, in limited sizes,
here
and here.

tethersend · 17/07/2010 15:21

Have been thinking about this, and I think you should call the local paper and explain that children are being required to wear blazers in 30 degree heat. I think they may be interested.

BelligerentGhoul · 17/07/2010 15:25

Jackie - I like the prices of those Wrap ones! Has anybody used Wrap before?

Tethers - I agree but tbh we're all a bit scared.

Jersey one - bit shapeless, but you could wear it with a big belt.
Longer length.
Bit too boxy, maybe
'Swingy'?

mysteryfairy · 17/07/2010 15:25

Both my DSs go to secondary schools with that rule and I know our catchment area school has it too. Surely it's very common and a bit of a non story?

At DS1's school if it absolutely sweltering the headteacher occasionally announces in assembly that they can remove blazers in lessons for that day. Apparently he invariably gets a standing ovation for doing so.

JackieNo · 17/07/2010 15:26

I've had a few bits from them - ridiculous prices when full price, but the quality's OK. One linen skirt in particular that I've had for a few years, and worn to death.

JackieNo · 17/07/2010 15:26

(sorry - 'them' being Wrap)

BelligerentGhoul · 17/07/2010 15:27

Fairy - ours were made to keep them on all through the heatwave.

tethersend · 17/07/2010 15:28

Do it anonymously. Pretend to be a concerned parent if you have to. The worst they can do is not be interested...

tethersend · 17/07/2010 15:29

Fuck it, CAT me the name of the school and I'll do it

BelligerentGhoul · 17/07/2010 15:29

Not fond of those Poetry ones - they look like stuff that old ladies buy from East. Sorry.

OP posts:
JackieNo · 17/07/2010 15:30

Limited sizes again, but military style?

BelligerentGhoul · 17/07/2010 15:32

Link doesn't work - but UO deffo more my style than Poetry!

OP posts:
JackieNo · 17/07/2010 15:32

I know what you mean about the Poetry ones , but you never know what someone will like...

BelligerentGhoul · 17/07/2010 15:33

Tethers - don't tempt me!

I am sorely tempted....get thee behind me....

I have made a lot of fuss over a lot of things lately and think somebody else should rock the bloody boat for a change.
