Right, I am going to get a boob job

So, after thinking about it for a few years (and talking myself out of it) I think I am going to get a boob job.

I am very petite, and before having children I was a small B cup - so I was small, but I did have breasts that I was reasonably happy with. But now they are more like an AA cup. I hate the look of them, and I just don't think I look like a woman. And it's impossible to buy any nice underwear.

I did consult someone about it a few years ago, recommended by a GP. His name was Mark Gittos. I am thinking of going with him. Any experiences of him or other surgeons? (in london)

I have a very desk based job (nothing physical) so was thinking of taking only a week off work. Is that realistic?

My friends sister, young single 20 year old had three weeks off and was asking her mum to help her pull her knickers up as she couldn't manage but then my neighbour who is a mother of three was driving to Tesco's on day 3 and very much getting on with it so I guess it depends on your pain threshold (and willingness to just get on with it).
You'll heal quicker though if you do spend that week in bed and don't move.

Daydreaming · 10/07/2010 23:51

Thanks mama. I will have help, so can just spend a week doing nothing. I was up doing everything 3 days after a c-section, so I think I have a high pain threshold !

bump

Anyone with any recommendations about who to go to and also any other tips?

OP posts:
Daydreaming · 11/07/2010 23:37

bump - not sure why my thread is being ignored

Surely there must be lots of people on here who have had one...

Or maybe not - maybe it's just me who is a shallow, plastic person... But actually no, I promise I am just a 30 something woman who hates her non existing breasts.

clam · 11/07/2010 23:47

Well I'm watching the thread to see if anything useful is posted too!
But I have the opposite problem and would like a breast reduction. Especially in this weather!

Maryqueenofchocs · 12/07/2010 18:19

daydreaming i'm adding to the thread to bump it in the hope someone has had a boob job and can assist you...

I'm nice like that.

sethstarkaddersmum · 12/07/2010 18:25

My tip is, don't do it.
If you feel you don't look like a woman, that is the fault of society putting pressure on women to look a certain, artificial, way. Why the hell should you have to mutilate yourself to fit in with that?

But I am sure you're going to do it anyway, so good luck, I hope it works out well and you're happy with it

Maryqueenofchocs · 12/07/2010 20:30

seth she says she does not feel like a woman any more, how is that an external factor influencing her? I think you are being a little harsh tbh.

Sometimes people want stuff done for the right reasons and she sounds like she has a valid reason to me.

A friend had a reduction recently and is evangelical about it - she looks great, but then she did before, just now she has a smaller bosom.

I have thought a lot about a reduction myself but I think I am too frightened of surgery to do it.

Daydreaming · 12/07/2010 21:35

Mary - thanks for the bump and defending me !

Seth - I kind of agree with you. Ten years ago I would have been rolling my eyes and thinking why on earth would someone do that to themselves ! But things change.

Right, can someone actually help me?

OP posts:
clam · 12/07/2010 22:24

Contrary to popular belief, big tits are an absolute curse.
I can't run properly as it's just too painful, can rarely get a bra to fit without either bulging out the top or not cupping properly underneath and virtually any top just looks matronly. Strappy tops are not feasible at all. In this hot weather I get horrid sweat rashes underneath which are very uncomfortable.
And now I'm getting older, to add insult to injury, they're just getting wrinkled and saggy!

NotQuiteCockney · 12/07/2010 22:26

Did you breastfeed? If so, when did you stop? If not, when did you have your last child?

Because from what I know, it generally takes two years for breasts to get back to normal after the disruption of breastfeeding/pregnancy. So it would make sense to let those two years go by before you did anything drastic.

purplepeony · 12/07/2010 22:48

search these threads- t has been done before here.
My friend used Alex Karadis- google him.

purplepeony · 12/07/2010 22:48

Karidis

Daydreaming · 12/07/2010 22:52

Yes, I breastfed. That was four years ago. So for four years now I have been a cup size AA. I don't want big breasts - I just want to be a B cup so that I can buy nice bras and wear things that I can't wear now (e.g. nice strappy dresses).

Sidge · 12/07/2010 23:21

I had augmentation 12.5 years ago and went from an A (just) cup to a C.

No regrets at all, love the result - well they're a bit droopier now than they were before I breastfed 3 children!

I never wanted to look like a fake-titted porn star, I just wanted a natural looking pair of normal sized boobs to go with the rest of my womanly body. I am petite and pear shaped but had no breasts to speak of and feel that my figure now is much more balanced.

I took 2 weeks off work but was in quite a physical job. I did find things like pushing the hoover or a shopping trolley quite sore but day to day stuff was fine.

I didn't have mine done in London so can't help you there I'm afraid.

tulpe · 12/07/2010 23:23

Daydreaming - don't let anyone tell you that you are being stupid or shallow or conforming to pressure from society. They don't live in your body, with your issues - as you see them.

You need to be realistic about the risks as well as the benefits. You need to have an exact idea of what outcome you want so that you are able to explain clearly to a surgeon and make sure you are reaching for the same goal.

I spent 10 years dreaming of a tummy tuck. I finally went for it mid-June this year. As much as I was anxious beforehand, the prep and the op are the easy parts. Recovery is slow but steady - so long as you take care of yourself and have others around to support you.

You need to be 100% comfortable with the surgeon and his team and to have established a strong sense of trust before s/he gets to draw on you with a marker pen . Don't get pressured into anything with anyone you have any negativity towards - however small.

cupcakesinthesnow · 12/07/2010 23:33

It irritates me when people assume that just because someone wants a breast enlargment they want mammoth freaky fake looking tits. Many, many women just want 'average' sized breasts or fuller breasts.

A friend of mine had hers done after chldren and losing loads of weight. They look great an completely normal ie you would never guess they were not 1005 her own.

There is nothing vapid or shallow about wanting this procedure for the right reasons. I mean its not like you are saying 'i want men to fancy me so I want big fake tits and I want to do a photoshoot for Nuts magazine.

Hope it all goes smoothly for you if you do go ahead

Daydreaming · 12/07/2010 23:36

Thanks Sidge - it's good to know that yours are still going strong !!!

Thanks Tulpe. I have to say that I am actually feeling a bit inspired by you. I used to read your posts on style and beauty, and thought you sounded like a really nice and normal person. I then had a bit of a break from S and B so lost touch with all the news, and was quite amazed when I read recently on the avid shopping thread that you've had a tummy tuck. I am very impressed that you decided to go for it.

I am an extremely risk averse person, so this is a big decision, but I am at a stage in life where I feel I need to take some risks and make some changes. I will let you know how I get on. I will go back to the surgeon I consulted once before, and then go and see someone else too, just to compare.

(btw, I used to post under the name Feelingoptimistic, but changed my name for something and decided I quite like this one)

Daydreaming · 12/07/2010 23:39

Purplepeony - many thanks (didn't see your posts earlier - very strange...)

Cupcakes - that's exactly right - if I had my old small B cups, I would be very content.

OP posts:
traceybath · 13/07/2010 08:10

Daydreaming - I haven't had one and am still bf but am definitely considering one in a couple of years.

I don't want big boobs but I want them back where they used to be.

3 pregnancies and bf has caused them to be very saggy and lacking in fullness.

So good luck and please keep us updated

Tulpe - how was the green bikini?

ViveLaFrak · 13/07/2010 08:23

Just be aware that messing with your boobs can have unanticipated results and thoroughly talk through how the surgery will 'age'.

I had a reduction because they were HUGE and an absolute curse. I know, logically, my back feels better, but they don't look as nice as they did before and that was just about 6 years ago. I'm thinking of getting them lifted post-children (which is a bit of a leap cos we're not even on one yet).

Jewelsandgems · 13/07/2010 09:04

Just havw a boob-job related question. How long do the implants last before you have to have them re-done? And at that stage what happens then? Can you opt to have none put back in (but the skin would be very saggy surely?) or do you have to go up a size??

OsbegaEthewulf · 13/07/2010 09:29

Make sure you start a saving fund for future replacements or possible removement etc when you have it done.

Good luck
