Hooray to getting our own space (within giving up smoking).

Flowers & Wine (gin) to MNHQ for giving us this space.

I'm hoping some of our most knowledgeable vapers are going to start threads about specific aspects of vaping.

brilliant, ineed, sounds like you're doing really well! Just keep counting the ones you don't smoke Flowers

Allergictoironing · 02/06/2014 07:08

Going to be an interesting day for me today. Having been out of work since before I changed smoking to vaping, and not one for going out on the razzle much, I've not been in a "social smoking" type environment since the swap.

However today I start a 2 week course that the dear old Jobcentre has put me on, so there will be official breaks where people go for a fag. I don't see them being happy about me vaping in the sessions, so I'll probably have to go outside with the smokers. I'm looking on this as an opportunity to evangelise!

Raia · 02/06/2014 08:28

Good luck with the course Allergic Brew

I predict lots of interest in your vaping from the smokers (if you do have to go outside to vape that is)!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 02/06/2014 09:38

Good luck Allergic! I hope you get genuine interest and not just unasked for opinions, which is all I seem to get lately. You can always vape in the loos

Shonajay · 02/06/2014 10:35

Every time I've stopped before I've had cigs in the house just in case. I've been stopped 11 weeks now, and have never wanted one, but out of interest, had a puff on Saturday night. Just OMG! I felt sick, the taste, had to scrub my mouth out twice with toothpaste and then go to bed as I honestly thought I'd vomit.

I'd always planned on trying that, am really glad I did (personally, I'm NOT recommending it) but its underlined my resolve. And I also had to shower as I couldn't get the smell off me. Vomit.

Raia · 02/06/2014 12:25

That's brilliant Shona. I haven't had a puff on a stinky since 19th March - I've wondered about trying it, but I still like the smell of fresh smoke so I'm scared I'll like it (even though I never crave a cigarette at all) Confused

ineedausername · 02/06/2014 14:15

Well I managed 24h, until someone crashed into me and my son in the car this morning :( needed to smoke to try and calm down a bit :(
I have liquids coming from the alchemists cupboard I'm looking forward to trying them once they are in

Raia · 02/06/2014 15:36

Argh ineed - are you and ds okay?

ineedausername · 02/06/2014 15:55

I was pleasantly surprised by the number of vape sticks I saw there, both on the course and by other users of the community centre it was being run in. The few I spoke to about it are all currently dual fuelling, but I'm trying to encourage then to take the next step & have given a few tips on things to help that.

From my own point of view, yes I am mostly going outside to vape as some people can be funny about it and the last thing I want to do is put anyone's back up when this course is such a good networking opportunity. But I'm getting much more vaping time in than just about anyone else at the mo, because the early parts of the course I know pretty well so when others are taking 30 mins to read and understand a section of the manual then do the exercises, I'm done in 15 mins. trainer knows I do know this stuff, so she lets me slope off to the corridor when I've completed them Wink

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 02/06/2014 19:46

Shit ineed that's awful Sad Hope you're OK. Don't feel bad about smoking, that's the least of your worries. You'll get back to where you were soon enough x

Allergic by the end of the fortnight they'll all be having shopping accidents on FT Grin

ineedausername · 04/06/2014 07:11

That's it, all the stinkys were smoked yesterday and back vaping. I've got coconut caramel with hazelnut honey from the alchemists cupboard and it's yum! Plus I have a new pink tank so I look much cooler now :)
And we got our hire car and it's a range rover evoque so that softened the blow a bit. Still don't know if the car was written off or not, waiting to hear from the garage.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/06/2014 11:34

Well done ineed, that's a very fast bounce back from smoking! Glad you're OK and fingers crossed for your car.

We have our first Q&A in the stop smoking section here. Linda Bauld was one of the 53 signatories of the recent letter to the WHO so it's especially brilliant that MN have invited her on Smile

ineedausername · 05/06/2014 13:41

I think i'd kinda gotten it out of my system lol! Entering my second cigarette free day, vaping away quite happily :) I've just convinced my friend to try vaping, she was struggling and saving to try hypnotherapy but i've showed her kit and all the funky flavours. She has already started ordering :)
Car is sadly a write off, we're so gutted :( It was an Audi RS6 :( We loved her. We didn't buy it brand new, but took us ages to find a good second hand one, did loads of work on it too. 0-60 in less that 5 seconds, twin turbo, v10, 570bhp.
We have an Evoque for a hire car and its like driving a slow tank....and it doesn't have an automatic boot!

My goodness, i think that was the most first world problem ever!!!! I'm honestly normal, i just loved that car!

Raia · 05/06/2014 17:40

Sorry to hear about your car ineed - but glad you're back on the vape wagon!

I had a puff of a stinky today (one a friend was smoking: I don't have any in the house), just out of curiosity really. I wish I'd hated it a little more than I did if I'm honest, but the aftertaste really was vile! Not remotely tempted to start again after that little experiment.

ineedausername · 05/06/2014 18:18

When I smoked the other day, I didn't completely hate it either!
But I did hate:
The cost
The smell
The fact it didn't taste like pudding!
My fingers stank

It's definitely a good sign if you had one and didn't rush out and buy a whole pack and start again :)

srj52 · 07/06/2014 00:45

I was very excited to see a new vape shop had opened only five minutes walk from my house. I went in to check it out and the woman there was very friendly but the Hangsen eliquids were £6 for 10ml! I didn't need to buy any that day as I'd only just had a delivery from premier ecig - £2 for 10ml. I'd really like to support a local shop but £6 seems a bit steep. Is this a typical price for a shop?

Allergictoironing · 07/06/2014 07:35

Bricks & mortar shops do have to charge a fair bit more than on-line shops as their costs are a LOT higher (rent, rates, insurances etc). They also have to stock a wide range of items (well they do if they are going to succeed!) and at the same time they can't buy in as much bulk as someone who specialises in one thing. It also means they can't have 2-3 different income streams as many of the home based shops can.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 07/06/2014 20:24

I think £6/10ml is a lot, even for B&M shops. Given you can get Hangsen online for £2, I wouldn't expect it to be more than £4 in a shop.

I went back to the greenwich shop this week with a friend who could talk the hind legs off a donkey we were in there over an hour! Friend carries around about 15 gs-h2s with different flavours and was getting the shop staff to try them all and telling them how much cheaper they were online. Every time a customer came in, friend was telling them how much cheaper they could get their kit on fasttech Blush In the end I was so embarrassed I bought her 10ml (Hangsen with their own labels on it, £3.99/10ml) as she was clearly not going to buy anything. Oddly, she seemed to make firm friends with the staff and came away with a couple of juice swapsies Grin The cafe next door are considering running vape cafe nights which would be good as they are a proper old fashioned cafe and not at all poncey.

On a serious note - - I can't believe none of you have any questions for the Q&A with Linda Bauld! I think it's a really positive thing, MNHQ inviting her on - she's sticking her neck out for us lot by signing the WHO letter and ASH's turnaround from their position on ecigs even a few months ago is really heartening. Why not ask something about the proposed Welsh ban or the effects of hospitals going smoke free (and getting rid of all the smoking shelters so people crowd around the doors) or the unintended (?) consequences of the TPD, or whether the best way of helping people quit is calling them smelly stupid and selfish or something about smoking and mental health, or vaping and pregnancy or the addictiveness of nicotine on its own or ...

Most of the vaping forums would jump at the chance of a Q&A like this. I sometimes think we're really spoilt on MN having the ear of so many influential people. Please make the most of it.

ineedausername · 07/06/2014 21:07

done mine, they sound a bit crap though!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 07/06/2014 21:13

Those are great questions ineed Smile

ineedausername · 07/06/2014 21:14

thank you :)
Bought our new car today!! Lovely blue Range Rover, with a cream leather interior.
We have extra money now we aren't paying for a 30 a day habit between us lol!

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 07/06/2014 21:24

Ooh congrats on the new car! I take it the old one was a write off?
