I realise I will get lynched for this and to start by saying I do like my sc and have no issues.

Except we can't afford to go abroad ever as a family of 5. We could afford to go with just me, dh and ds. The thing that frustrates me is the sc go abroad every year for a couple of weeks and we can't go cause dh won't go without them. Which i do understand but I don't want to go without dh.

So i find myself resentful that they have a lovely sunny holiday every year and we can't afford to go anywhere. And I feel bad for ds who is missing out on the experience

Anyone else had the same issue?

How good a dad is he really if he doesn't see the problem with his youngest child never getting something wonderful that his other children get every single year?
He's not got a nuclear family anymore. His children lead partially separate lives. Not sure why the youngest must pay the price for this. All this talk of going away without him - why should your child not benefit from having parents who are together? That's his reality. It's almost as if any benefit he may have must be taken away from him or it's not fair on his siblings.
Anyway, I'd not be pissing away my child's childhood on this man's misplaced guilt. Not a chance. Go without him. If he wants to pretend he's split from the mother's of all of his children then let him.

this is perfectly put :)

If you wanted to take all the children, it's perfectly possible to book a holiday abroad for less than £4500. Look at gites in france or campsites and drive. My kids loved those sites. We generally booked a week plus a couple of nights in random towns en route which were pretty

Not everyone is comfortable with driving abroad though?

For example I've found a week in the vendee, 15 mins walk to beach for £1200 in school holidays, 3 bedroom caravan sleeping 8. It's a 6-8 drive from Le Havre, crossing is £130 each way, school holiday prices. Food bill in france if self catering isn't hugely more than the U.K. and petrol is cheaper (use total energies petrol stations or supermarkets, avoid services). Not ultra cheap but a lot less than you were talking about

@MeetMyCat

It takes just a couple of minutes to adjust, it's your car (I don't like driving left hand drives, I get that!)

Does he feel guilty that you and your DS are missing out on a holiday because of his dad guilt?

Could you not go the same time as the DSC are away with their mum?

This???

OP - yes, why not do that?
So the DSC would be coming back from a holiday as well.

TakingTheCake · 08/05/2023 19:28

How old are your children? Could you do term time with just yours? I've had to consider this lately as my stepdaughter goes on so many foreign holidays, and my smaller children want to go on a plane etc, and I can't afford school holiday prices.

It is not your guilt to feel! I've had this convo with my DH is he doesn't feel comfortable going away with me and my DD that is on him. He has no intention on taking my DSC away on his own so to me he is choosing to miss out. I'm off to Spain in 3 weeks with DD, the DSC are away for a hot holiday with their mum and DH is missing out. I've told him my DD will not miss out because of his guilt and she will have the amazing holidays I planned for her and he can either come along for the ride or not. I pay for me and DD so he only has to pay the difference. Blended is not always perfectly blended you need to do what works for you x
