Fuming!

sausagesandbeanz · 12/04/2021 16:47

So my lovely SD (6) has just let slip that her nannie (ex's mum) has been taking her and her brother swimming during lockdown.
I appreciate that the pool is closed and no one else is supposed to be going BUT what if other employees have been doing it too?!

On top of this, she took DSS to a football Christmas party swimming in December when we were all on bloody lockdown!

Here's me sat here with a 4 month old, slowly going crazy, not going anywhere following the rules and there's the nan taking the kids for a dip whenever she bloody fancies!

Absolutely fuming! AIBU to be this livid?
I know there's literally nothing I can do about it unless I dob her in... I think I'm here to just rant really 😂

And yet you’re fine, and we’re coming out of lockdown now.

Theimpossiblegirl · 12/04/2021 16:51

Nothing you can do now. I'd be annoyed but you're just going to have to let it go, unfortunately.
Your partner/DH could tell her it's not on, but I doubt she cares

sausagesandbeanz · 12/04/2021 16:53

@Insomnia5 aye but it was at the height of everything and I've only just found out now.

You are right, we are all fine thank god BUT just the thought that a stupid thing like that could have made any of us ill, I'm on MAT leave so if my partner got it and had time off work we'd have been up stuff creak without a paddle to say the least!

If we'd both have got it who would have took care of my new born?

I just thought it was incredibly selfish and that the DM new and didn't bat an eyelid!

Teenangels · 12/04/2021 16:55

OP, have you got ill from their actions or are you just being really cautious. Shops have opened today and pubs and we could meet people 3 weeks ago.
I think you need to let this go and enjoy life.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 12/04/2021 16:55

You're totally unscathed and how lovely that your dsd has the opportunity to go swimming.
Maybe calm down? Find something that actually matters to get frothy about?

Justmuddlingalong · 12/04/2021 16:56

You're getting your knickers in a twist about things that could have happened, but didn't. There's obviously a backstory with your DP's ex. It sounds like that's really the issue.

sausagesandbeanz · 12/04/2021 17:00

@Justmuddlingalong

You're right, I think it's one of those where all the little things keep adding up and then all of a sudden you blow your top over the slightest thing.

OP posts:
Justmuddlingalong · 12/04/2021 17:05

Try and forget about it. What's done is done and luckily nothing bad happened because of it. 💐

MzHz · 12/04/2021 17:23

Swimming (in chlorinated water) is about the very safest place you can be.

You’re ok, everything is ok, baby is fine, I understand your shock, but honestly it’s ok now

This isn’t your battle to sort out.

Did their mother know she was taking them?

Magda72 · 12/04/2021 17:47

@sausagesandbeanz I'm sorry but I think all those telling you to calm down/cease being frothy etc. are akin to gaslighting.
No, there's nothing you can do about it now & yes, it's after the fact & everyone is safe & well, but that's hardly the point & you are perfectly entitled to your feelings.
The very fact that nobody bothered to tell you this was going on during a very intense lockdown when everyone was supposed to be staying at home AND when you and oh could have been left exposed & vulnerable with a newborn was totally not cool & for what it's worth I'd be livid too.
People can behave how they want but NO ONE takes liberties with my safety & the safety of my children.
I'm not sure what you can do about it now but you have every right to be angry.

MintLampShade · 12/04/2021 17:52

YANBU. I'd be absolutely fuming too!! Responsible adults, eh? Thank goodness you are all ok. Just focus on that Thanks

UhtredRagnarson · 12/04/2021 17:56

How on earth was she able to take them swimming? Swimming pools are all closed round here.

NerrSnerr · 12/04/2021 18:22

Where was she taking them swimming? What kind of swimming pool? Most staff in place with pools have been furloughed and the pools won't have been heated/ filters etc on would they?

sausagesandbeanz · 12/04/2021 19:08

Their nan is a manager at one, no idea how she managed to convince the powers that be to let them in... unless they didn't know otherwise 🤷🏼‍♀️

OP posts:
UhtredRagnarson · 12/04/2021 19:21

Of course they’ll have known otherwise! They’ll have been closed and they’ll have known why they were closed. Sounds like they will have been the only ones there though so risk of catching covid practically zero.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 12/04/2021 19:33

If your partner is going out to work daily, I’d imagine that’s a much higher risk than swimming in a pool closed to the public.

Strange how you only mention your household getting ill, surely you should be lived for the children as well if you feel it’s such a risk.

sausagesandbeanz · 12/04/2021 19:38

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

Well yeah I admit I didn't say anything about DSC but everyone (not meaning on here) has seem to have forgotten I've got my own child that I'm responsible for.

It's up to their mum and dad to be responsible for them and dad didn't know anything until I told him and mum clearly knew but seemed to have thought it was okay at the time.

People forget the DSC already have a mother and father, my DS has too but I'm supposed to fawn over someone else's kids and not be half as fussed with my own apparently.

I don't mean to vent directly at you sorry if I have, like I said before I think it's a number of small things building causing me to pop at another small thing.

Also don't take it as I don't care for the DSC, I do but unfortunately as SM I don't tend to get a look in as most SM don't.

@UhtredRagnarson

I meant unless the company/swimming place didn't know she was using it and she snuck them in knowing it was a day/days no one would be there at all

Those “someone else’s children” are your child’s half siblings and your partners children.

Presumably they are back at school now? So risks even higher than a swim with no one else.

selflove · 12/04/2021 21:42

I couldn't possibly get worked up about it. The pool (which was chlorinated) was closed, they weren't coming into contact with anyone else.

My friend has a soft play venue. When it was empty during lockdown, she gave me the keys when it was 6yr old DD's birthday and I took her and her brother there, and the two of them had the whole warehouse to themselves and probably had the best day of their lives to date. Yes it was technically breaking rules, but it wasn't going to hurt anyone.

he he this was my thoughts exactly.

Don't get bitter, just get better hunnay! Lifes on the up!

TheMusclesBrigade · 15/04/2021 14:04

Sorry I think this is fine, our local pool has been doing lifeguard training and also private sessions for small groups throughout lockdown. They also turned into a testing centre and as a reward for all staff who helped with that they allowed their children/grandchildren/siblings in for a pool fun session for free right before reopening to the public. Otherwise they'd have had to drain the pool and it'd have delayed reopening etc.

I would have no issue with this if my DD came back saying daddy/grandma etc took her to the pool if they worked there

Magda72 · 15/04/2021 16:45

Ffs - this is so cancelling!
Not enough eye rolls.

itsgettingwierd · 15/04/2021 16:50

I get what your saying. I know why it has made you feel annoyed.

Plus I think it's out the leisure centre at a huge risk if they should have been closed. Most wouldn't have kept the heating etc running due to costs for all those months.

However swim England announced yesterday that after commissioning an independent study it's been proven the pool water in activates covid is under 30 seconds.

I'm thinking it's time to bring back public outdoor swimming baths again Grin
