Expected to look after DSS

I have a very stressful week coming up.

We are moving house, I am busy at work and Dh is working away when we move. This I have no problem with, I am organised and can handle it all.

DSS and I do not get on, mainly driven by his DM. Now DH tells me that the week we are moving and he is away his ex is away with work too and I have to look after DSS. I never have him on his own as he will not do anything I say and I will not wait on him and take meals to him in his room etc. I have said I do not want to and as his ex has created this situation she should be the one to sort it out, not me. Dh then guilt trips me that I am adding stress to him and all he is asking me to do is look after him for a week. Whilst I am moving house on my own!

Just a rant really.

Well, I'm glad you got it sorted, and I hope (unless your relationship with DSS vastly improves) that you're never put in this position again! And by the way Backcrack, I think 'Disney Dad' is a damn good description for the kind of DF's who will do/allow anything rather than deal realistically with unacceptable behaviour from their DC! Good parenting is not about saying yes to anything and everything just so that you never have to be the 'bad guy'!

Yeah, it is done. I managed the house move, no sign of DSS and Dh is back today.

You poor thing! Am surprised your DH couldn't change the trip or take some time off for the house move. That sucks.

Some really nasty comments on this thread full of the same old anti SM clichés!!
OP is assumed to be the ‘new’ girlfriend (even after 10 years!!), her DP has ‘taken on’ her dc so therefore she must provide free childcare as and when required to show her gratitude and put up with a sullen sulky teenager who refuses to show her any respect and of course that old chestnut – she clearly HATES her DSS because she doesn’t roll out the red carpet when his own parents can’t coordinate their work plans and look after him!
Maybe if her DP wasn’t so Disney (which may well sound snidey but when you have come across a dad like this it is the perfect description!!) and taught his son some manners and respect then the OP would be more inclined to have him for the week.
Glad it has sorted itself out OP and well done for sticking to your guns!
