Starting one as the WSL began yesterday. Will be interesting to see how the one team without a male team, London City Lionesses get on.

What do Man City fans or anyone else think will be the effect on the Women's team if the convictions against the club are upheld?

They have a "one club" ethos and lots of money has been spent on facilities for the women and, about a decade ago, on poaching players (Grrrr...Steph Houghton...grrr) but at the same time we all know they will not have benefited from any financial shenanigans to anything like the extent of the men's team so in that sense it seems harsh on them to be dragged down if, say, the club is relegated. I discovered when Taylor left that I didn't hate Man City, I hated Gareth Taylor! And with Beth Mead and Viv Miedema being City players now, and Bunny Shaw just being generally amazing, I have a lot of sympathy and fellow-feeling for the women's side, at least.

What's the feeling on the blue side of Manchester?

There's a good chat about this on today's Guardian Women's Football Weekly.

Our player Zara Kramzar is out for the season with an ACL

Ohhh this is a good thread. Placemarking!

BellaAmorosa · 07/10/2026 10:14

Hello, PassMeTheCookies.

Two questions:

  1. who do you support? and
  2. would you please pass me the cookies afterwards? I can see some shortbread and choc chip on the plate...

First round of FA Cup fixtures. I think they are on the FA Player. I am very tempted to watch if only for the lovely names of the clubs. And it will be interesting to compare the standards of play and pitches.

I don't think that we (Arsenal) played too badly yesterday so was disappointed that we didn't at least draw.

We just need to try and get a CL place this year if we can.

What happened to Spurs?

Painful Sunday afternoon for us at Brisbane Road.
Spurs were completed outplayed from first whistle. LCL were faster, stronger, ran and closed down and Spurs' connection/rhythm/passing just wasn't there, completely unsettled. 2 x (possibly 3) basic goalkeeping errors, and what looked live like a massively offside goal (linesman still on halfway line) and result was a cricket score.
Bad day at the office - but not like the Liverpool game where it was painful to watch, just the next level. Putellas got all the plaudits but for me Grace Geyora bossed the game.
LCL were a horrible team attitude though - narky, play acting, rough on opponents and soft at slightest contact. Whingey at the ref. Unlikeable.
Kudos to Ella Morris who despite the defeat stopped for a photo with my kids while they were waiting for me on the way out.

I am disappointed but not surprised that Wiegmann hasn't called up Ruby Mace to replace Lucy Bronze.

Agree - i don't see the purpose in bringing Tooney back to sit on the bench. (And as a United fan I completely agree with Sarina fwiw she wasn't at her best at the back end of last season either)

Scoobydoobydoo19 · 08/10/2026 19:47

I would have expected a like for like (or at least a similarly positioned) replacement so Ruby Mace would have fitted the bill. I did have a feeling Toone would get in somehow when it was announced but there's no way she can replace Bronze (in so many ways!).

Edited

Thank you OP for sharing this.

The only challenge is if a club uses a smaller ground than the men's team if they are part of the same club. I cannot imagine MK Dons aka franchise fc's women's team using the stadium which is two thirds empty for men's games, for example.

You might not be able to get there easily by public transport on a Sunday.

One of the things I admire about Serena Weigman's management is no-one is certain of their place.

Mariona Caldentey is out for 10 weeks with a hamstring. Disaster.

She will be a big miss.

Yes, Chloe is carrying a knock, according to RS.

Yes, well done.

Not sure what is up with Arsenal. I think we tried hard, but are just failing to score.

We'd like to know ourselves 😃 She wasn't this good last season. She seems to have gained so much more confidence, long may it continue.
We just need Lily Crosswaithe to perform like she did last season and we'll beat anyone! 😀
It's just great to be back in the WSL1 tbh .

Some players thrive on a big stage.
