MN Pro-Cycling Peloton - Spring Time Classics!! Starting with Milan-San Remo Sunday 23rd March

Resuming domestique duties Smile...we've raced away from the broom wagon that is a miserable winter and the dudes are up and racing on the Continent.

Milan-San Remo is first up with Cav looking to get his first race win of the season and with Petacchi and Renshawe in his lead out train (and one climb removed for safety reasons) this is where he could do it. It's live on Eurosport with highlights on Euro and Sky.

There are six other one-day classics before the Irish Giro in May, so rather than doing all the research, I'd commissioned the Beeb to do it for me!
So here is a nifty guide to all of them in one easy go

The Irish Giro may get a bit of pure local interest traffic, so I'd started a new thread just for that celebration of all that is green, lycra and on two thin wheels, here...The Irish Giro

Morning LostInWales!

I've got Volta Catalunya set to record this afternoon, so will catch up later. It should be an interesting guide to how everyone's form is.

Hope you've got to grips with your lovely new TV Smile

PansBigChainring · 24/03/2014 10:47

Noticed my alter ego Sylvan Chavanel managed to finish yesterday, though he never led from the front! Millar is tweeting about #MSR tiredness though he wasn't listed as a finisher unfortunately.
and of course @thejensie is promising one more season of mayhem!

New TV is the business, I can type in a persons name and it brings up all the programs they are in Grin plus I can pause TV when the boys are being idiots (ie all the time). It's also 3D and although that isn't why I got it, seeing stuff on it that has been filmed like that takes my breath away. Love my new telly.

I sat down this evening to watch my recording of the Volta, fell asleep on the couch & woke up with 3km to go Confused. Must've been the soothing tones of the Eurosport commentators wot did it...

PansBigChainring · 27/03/2014 08:18

But what a final 3 km, DA!

Questions remain over today's stage due to the strong possibility of snow so high up. The poor little dears were freezing yesterday.

Hello fellow lycra fans!! I am a big fan of pro-cycling, though I clearly know far less than you all (I watch the big three races, and occasionally catch bits of the others, but haven't really got a handle on what happens when, so tend to miss a lot).

The pro-riders amaze me - the strength and endurance, and the sheer courage needed to do what they do, day in day out, up and down mountains, in sun, rain, wind, snow and whatever else the weather throws at them, falling off, losing skin, breaking bones - and often getting back on to finish the stage. And all this in tight lycra, with the most beautiful bottoms physiques!

Getting serious, I have a horrible feeling Chris Froome will be bumped off the top spot for the TdF, in Bradley's favour. I think Bradley thinks he's the bigger star, and Sky won't want to piss him off - which is a huge shame, because Chris is an amazing all-round rider, and actually seems nicer too.

Oh - and just to prove myself as a completely bonkers fan, my version of counting sheep, to get myself to sleep, is to list TdF riders, with the aim of remembering the whole lot. So far I have committed 136 of the 2013 riders to memory. And yes, I am having therapy - this afternoon, actually! Grin

PansBigChainring · 27/03/2014 10:42

Morning SDTG. I'm sure CF will be the Sky guy - SBW recognises that he has put weight on ( 8 kilos) and will be keeping it on. So 4 bags of sugar difference means he isn't a GC contender. Seems to be.

Good to hear, Pan!

PansBigChainring · 27/03/2014 18:23

Are we going to have an agreed protocol for talking about the race stages on the day? Some folk will be able to see live stuff, and some not so and rely on highlights, but more likely to be able at weekends for instance.

I'd vote for talking as and when you want, and the highlighter people avoid threads IF they don't want to know what happened.

OP posts:
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2014 18:49

Maybe we need two threads - a spoiler thread and a no -spoiler one?

PansBigChainring · 27/03/2014 18:54

We'd have this peloton all over the road!Grin

Wah, my parents have unacceptably come to stay with very little notice, don't they know to consult with cycling weekly before planning any trips? Is it going well, are they all still on their bikes? Did it snow today?

PansBigChainring · 27/03/2014 21:05

Highlights on Eurosport seems to have been hijacked by Women's U17 Footie....guessing that means the snow closed in. The big fairies.

OP posts:
PansBigChainring · 27/03/2014 21:11

Nope. They went ahead, but still no highlights.

this report states it was snowy and foggy, so may be they couldn't get decent tv images relayed. "Big fairies". Sorry chaps.Blush

DramaAlpaca · 27/03/2014 21:53

OK, I'm in agreement with talking when we want & avoiding the thread as necessary.

I still have no idea who won today. I recorded the race again to watch when I got in from work, then found there was no coverage because of the weather & they ended up showing Milan-San Remo again.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2014 21:54

That's fine by me too.

PansBigChainring · 27/03/2014 22:02

It was Tee Jay wot won. The report of the race is just up there ^.

DramaAlpaca · 27/03/2014 22:47

Thanks Pan. I didn't see your link until after I'd posted. Brain's a bit slow today Blush

I have now bookmarked the Cycling News website so I'll get all the gossip.

PansBigChainring · 28/03/2014 21:53

Isn't RL such a wheel-sucker??Smile

OP posts:
PansBigChainring · 28/03/2014 22:09

Noticed the Volta has 'podium girls' actually dressed in cycling gear, and not dresses and heels. For what little it could be worth.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 28/03/2014 23:59

What is the actual point of podium girls? On second thoughts, lets not get started on that one, better leave it to FWR where I'm sure it has already been discussed at great length. But yes, if they must have them, much better that they are in cycling gear. At least if they aren't in heels they don't tower over most of the cyclists Grin

I watched the end of E3 Harelbeke (sp?) today. Very exciting cat & mouse finish with Geraint Thomas & Peter Sagan up against two riders from OPQ. Needless to say, Sagan's sprint finish was good enough to take the win. He's very entertaining. I think I am finally a Sagan fan.

DramaAlpaca · 29/03/2014 21:50

Good to see our Jensie going for it today Smile. I wish he'd managed to pull it off.

PansBigChainring · 29/03/2014 22:41

I'd managed to miss all of it!

Def, NOT missing tomorrow - out with dd and her mum for some of the day but the recorder will be whirring whilst out. @thejensie has been talking about today.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 29/03/2014 22:47

Yes, tomorrow should be good. It'll be all or nothing for the GC.
