Do you want to see something *disgusting* on my leg?

Here you go....

Presenting Exhibit A: my impressive reaction to a horsefly bite 😱

Please note I am not worried about it, I don't need medical advice/attention and I know what to look out for and when to get it looked at. I live on a farm so it's not uncommon for me to get bitten and react like this!

That said, I think this is the biggest blister I've had from one - it bit me twice before I got the fucker away and the two bites were originally separate blisters until I woke up this morning.

Holy cow

I get like that with horse fly bites, the pharmacist always mutters about cellulitis as it takes over the entire limb. Hope it heals quickly!

Wolfiefan · 18/07/2025 17:56

Bloody hell OP. That’s impressive. I too have no idea how you haven’t popped it.

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/07/2025 17:57

Reminds me of the blisters a relative got when they touched giant hogweed.

RafaistheKingofClay · 18/07/2025 17:59

Amazing. I mean that looks very painful, OP.

myplace · 18/07/2025 18:01

Obviously this isn’t advice, just a comment on my personal experience…

I find if I pop the blister the whole thing has the opportunity to flatten and reseal/heal up. While it’s puffy it seems to just keep getting bigger as the pressure when it’s knocked lifts the skin at the edges.

AnotherGreyMorning · 18/07/2025 19:23

Bloody hell. Poor you.

Horse flies are horrible. Mine take ages to heal but nothing like yours, op.

I've found taking a spoon and putting it in boiling water and then onto the bite - when they first happen! - relieves the itch. But obviously not on this blister.

I had that bullous reaction to mosquitoes in Singapore. Weirdly I’ve been bitten by mozzies in many other countries and never experienced it again.

Exact same thing happened to me in Hong Kong. I think I did end up sterilising a pin and popping it and applying dressings. . I was putting ant itch cream on it but was a big area to cover. Went to HK pharmacy and they were a bit stumped. Proper western pharmacy not Chinese medicine type place

you have any sympathy OP. That type of bite is horrid

ArcticBells · 18/07/2025 19:48

That needs popping 🤪

NoisyMonster678 · 18/07/2025 20:11

Wow, thats a beauty.

GeniuneWorkOfFart · 18/07/2025 20:13

It's exquisitely painful to touch so I don't dare even try and pop it.

DP says we should take it out for a welcome to the family meal.

It's all safely covered up now.

Mozzies in Bruges are in a class by themselves. Insatiable fuckers. I naively thought it was romantic to get a room right by the canal.

Holy moly!

looks like the Eden Project OP!

Noooo!! Popping is the route to actual infection, surely?

No, not at all. Have you never popped a blister before?! It’s wild that you haven’t popped it so it can start to heal!

heldinadream · 18/07/2025 20:50

My DH's recent bite. On his foot.
He reckons his is bigger.
Well, he would, wouldn't he? 🙄😂

Standard NHS advice is not to pop them because it can lead to infection though? I've always just left the blisters to it, they go down in a few days.

I beg to differ, I think mine is bigger 🤣

What bit him? Horsefly wanker ?

I had one on my foot which i really tried not to pop but I couldn't get my shoe on Confused they're tough fuckers as well, took me a good few attempts with a sterilised needle...

Then the next morning it had filled again so I had to have another go!

I still have the scar, but had no issues with infection.

spiderlight · 18/07/2025 21:12

Holy crap!! That is immense.

Wolfpinkola · 18/07/2025 21:13

Horseflies are such bastards!!
