First, you need a device capable of video recording....

Vanannabananna · 17/04/2020 20:22

That is amazing! Can you squeeze it!?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/04/2020 20:23

It’s a blister. I got those and usually need antibiotics. Don’t pop it. It’s a blister.

HorridHamble · 17/04/2020 20:30

Ooh! Well I can tell you what I did. But I’m not sure it’s recommended. Sliced with nail scissors and bunged some iodine on top. I still have slight scars two years later...

This is on my calf and it's burning as well as itching!

Can't film as don't have them means to.

Have just found another bite beginning to swell too - just over my ankle.

Bloody bastard bitey thing......I hope its teeth or proboscis or whatever weapon it used falls out/.off!

ChewChewIsMySpiritAnimal · 17/04/2020 20:32

Don't do anything to it. That's ripe for an infection if you're not careful.

ConcentricCircles · 17/04/2020 20:32

Oh HorridHamble smiles weakly thanks for giving me hope! Envy

ScarfLadysBag · 17/04/2020 20:32

That is beautiful

Passmeabrew · 17/04/2020 20:35

Do you have any antihistamines? It might help with the itching. And maybe a hot compress to encourage it to go naturally? I don't think it should be fiddled with, painful as it is for me to say (and also I know I couldn't actually resist it myself) bit I suspect you will make it worse if you get it wrong.

ConcentricCircles · 17/04/2020 20:35

What a way to spend friday night.........sitting with one trouser leg rolled up , and t'other one down. .....Strange times we live in!

Atalune · 17/04/2020 20:37

That looks like a blister. I would leave it and see what happens overnight. Maybe put some savlon on/around the area and come back and tell us what’s the story in the morning!!

ConcentricCircles · 17/04/2020 20:38

Was going to get in the bath in a bit [ and rub the swine with a warm soapy facecloth to stop the infernal itching].

I've no antihistamines...... rummages in ancient 1st aid tin..... 1 tube of steroid cream circa 2003 - nope. 1 tube of prep H... er defo nope.....

MissSmiley · 17/04/2020 20:53

I'd be surprised if that didn't pop in the night, just looks like water inside

DobbyTheHouseElk · 17/04/2020 20:54

There’s no pus inside it’s a water blister.

FamilyOfAliens · 17/04/2020 20:56

That looks like a horse-fly bite.

Sorry, but they can last for ages so please don’t dig around or pop it.

toomanyplants · 17/04/2020 20:59

I had the very same, was a mosquito bite, I was in Italy, covered it with a dressing.
2 days later ended up in a&e with it needing debridement. I now have a whopping scar.
This was last October.

FamilyOfAliens · 17/04/2020 21:10

Seriously - google “horse-fly bite” and you’ll get pages of images exactly like yours, OP.

tinselvestsparklepants · 17/04/2020 21:18

Hah! I am also here with one trouser leg up. 6 of the buggers. Luckily all smaller though, but flashing pink/white with my pulse. Fun times. Grin

ConcentricCircles · 17/04/2020 21:42

Have just has a cool bath and sorted the one above the ankle with a soapy face cloth. Found some Anthisan cream so used that, and ankle is now fine.

The one on my calf stands out nearly an inch from the skin, and has a red border of an inch around it,.
Don't want to fix a dressing on it with sticking plaster so have gone all Heath Robinson.
Have cut off the long sleeve of a t-shirt, plastered anthisan on the red ring, placed a melolin dressing over the 'globe' and it's now held in place with the sleeve acting like a footless sock. Doubtless it will shift during the night, but it's the best I can do till morning.

As per advice I haven't popped/poked/sliced/squashed/or done anything else to it!

@toomanyplants - I bow to your superior tale of woe. .... and I'm not googling

ConcentricCircles · 17/04/2020 21:43

@tinselvestsparklepants - I am well jealous of your pulsating, fairy light flashing ones, but not that you have 6 of them!!

OP posts:
SistemaAddict · 17/04/2020 21:59

Holy moly! If it's a horsefly bite then leave well alone. I still have the scar from one 38 years ago when I was 5. You might need antibiotics so keep an eye on it for tracking or any fever.

toomanyplants · 17/04/2020 22:11

Good luck to you!! I found Manuka honey dressings helped with healing, sting like crazy though!

GreyishDays · 17/04/2020 22:14

I’ve found steroid cream did calm down mosquito bites. Might be worth a google.

Queenfreak · 17/04/2020 22:19

I seem to be allergic to insect bites. They all go like this. I popped them one summer and ended up on IV antibiotics. Not smart.
Sometimes I cover them with magnesium sulphate on a plaster.
They itch like a bitch!

ConcentricCircles · 17/04/2020 22:39

They itch like a bitch

^ Never a truer word! I want to stick my leg in the freezer whilst surgically removing the bloody thing with any implement to hand!

Going to be a restful night!
