And this is what the back of my mouth looks like today Envy It's gruesomely fascinating.

Nope, I'm out.

You sporners entertain me, you're so witty and enthusiastic and genuinely helpful if a poster is supporating and doesn't know what to do.

I have occasionally shared pus tales just for sporner's pleasure and as a kind of thank you. But I've always known I'm not a real sporner and this thread confirms it.

Hope all is going well OP (I didn't make it to the end of the thread!). I will now slink away with my new self-knowledge.

ThomasRichard · 28/06/2017 09:01

Oh dear LostGarden, I'm sorry Sad I hope you'll be back on a more gentle pus-filled journey soon Flowers

Very kind of you @ThomasRichard. I hope your mouth continues to heal and I commend your generosity towards your fellow sporners.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 28/06/2017 21:59

God! That's the "after" photo?
What the fuck did Before look like?

YogiYoni · 28/06/2017 22:05

Eeeek. That is seriously grim.

How did you persuade the gp to refer you for removal? Was it 'just' the tonsil stones? (Believe me, I know there's nothing 'just' about them!)

I get them and they seem to be getting worse as I get older. I'm permanently worried about stinking. My gp just tells me that adults only get their tonsils removed if they get multiple cases of tonsillitis a year. I don't think he realises how awful it is.

LadyMaryofDownt0n · 28/06/2017 22:10

Oh shit! It's current have another bout of tonsillitis, my 2ns this year. I was considering asking for removal but this confirms I couldn't go through with it..... 🤢

I hope your feeling better soon 🌺

tiredvommachine · 28/06/2017 22:32

Am in deep admiration of the quality of your photos OP Grin

Get well soon Flowers

ThomasRichard · 28/06/2017 23:17

Breakfast they were just enlarged pink puffy bits, nothing too awful.

Yogi I got referred by my GP for the tonsil stones only. She said I needed to have one coming up at least twice a month to get a referral, which seemed odd to me as I was getting multiple a day Envy When the consultant saw me he said that they were enlarged so I had a chronic infection even though I didn't have a recurrent sore throat as such. So there wasn't any issue in persuading anyone to take them out, I just asked and it happened.

LadyMary it's not fun but it's not as awful as I was expecting. I can sleep, drink, eat etc. I just feel very tired and swollen and hot or acidic foods are a no-no. It's sore rather than outright painful.

YogiYoni · 28/06/2017 23:34

One twice a month?!? Hahaha! Like you, I have multiple a day. Thank you. Time to go back for a second opinion...

I hope the operation works for you and that you feel better soon.

GrumpySausage · 29/06/2017 07:40

Hope you're feeling ok OP Flowers

As much as I don't like to see people suffer dan I just say I am living for your photos. My DH is horrified at the glee they give me.

Good sporning.

ThomasRichard · 29/06/2017 08:16

Less red today but the grey bits are back Envy I might brace some toast or Pringles this morning to try to clear them up a bit. I'm finding it hard to drink enough because it's quite uncomfortable but at night everything gets so dry I know I need to up the fluids.

Ice lollies?

Sairelou · 29/06/2017 10:15

This thread is magical Grin

ThomasRichard · 29/06/2017 15:26

Soooo... for the hardcore among you - LostGarden, cover your eyes - my removed tonsils are being used for research and I got sent a photo of them today. I'm so glad I'm not the one slicing those things!

MrsHathaway ice lollies are a good idea. I'll investigate the freezer.

MrsHathaway · 29/06/2017 15:46

Bleeeeeeeeeee!

In the olden days one used to be fed jelly and ice cream after a tonsillectomy. Jelly is great when you need to drink but can't face it. See also melon!

Good luck with the scratchy crisps. You are being very brave indeed.

Twinkie1 · 29/06/2017 16:19

I'd rather go through labour without pain relief than a tonsillectomy. I didn't comment on your first post telling you it's going to feel like someone has taken a cheese grater then a Bunsen burner to your throat, thought that might be a little unfair.

DD is on day 4 and you wouldn't know she's had anything done other than a sort of voice like an alien! She's not even bothered to ask for calpol!

Glad you got some serious meds.

Twinkie1 · 29/06/2017 16:22

Hydrogen Peroxide is a magical cure for tonsil related issues. It's about £1 in Tesco, dilute, gargle and you'll spit foam that I imagine what licking a mangy foxes arse would taste like on the hour for 12 hours but the pain goes in less than 24 hours.

ThomasRichard · 29/06/2017 16:42

Thanks Twinkie. I have some hydrogen peroxide in the bathroom cabinet so could try that.

I was expecting the pain to be a lot worse than it is TBH. It hurts but no worse than a sore throat. The pressure in my ears and the swelling is worse.

OP posts:
YogiYoni · 29/06/2017 22:13

Oh my god. They let you see the tonsils? Ah-may-zing!
I 'd love to see mine if they came out. I'd want to give them a squeeze!

mineofuselessinformation · 29/06/2017 22:22

I was advised to rinse my mouth with peroxide after a wisdom tooth extraction many years ago (under GA), but not more recently for my tonsils.
The dead tissue will slough away when it's ready.
Whilst it doesn't look pretty (!) if you feel ok and it's not too painful, just keep doing what you're doing.
I found the week from about day 5 to day 12 the worst.
I've never looked back though, and don't regret it for a minute.

ThomasRichard · 29/06/2017 22:40

Luckily it's my bf doing the research so he sent me photos before he sliced them up for microscope slides. I don't think I would have had a peek otherwise!

I shouldn't have opened this thread, DS (3) is having his tonsils and adenoids out next week SadSad

ThomasRichard · 29/06/2017 22:50

Aww lovelillies! By all accounts, young children have a completely different experience. A bit sore and grumpy for a couple of days and then they're fine. Don't worry Flowers

OP posts:
Yolannnda · 29/06/2017 22:58

Lovelillies my 5 yo has just had his tonsils & adenoids out and he coped remarkably! Was a little sore the first few days, got slightly worse days 4-6 and then fine! They discharged him with calpol, ibuprofen & liquid morphine and we were told just to keep on top with it and give regularly for atleast 10 days. That helped. Good luck!
