I've had this thing for a while now. It's about 5mm diameter, looks like a spot but has no head and doesn't react to squeezing - it's quite hard and bleeds if I catch it with the razor. I wondered about an ingrowing hair but poking with a sterilised needle in the Sporner Recommended manner just made it bleed and was very unsatisfying.

Any suggestions? My legs are no great shakes as it is without this unsightly thing making them even less appealing.

PossumInAPearTree if you've had it checked by the doc, it's a beautician you need. I paid £40 for electrolysis. Stings like feck, but not as bad as I was expecting! Really pleased with it, as I've had the horrors of being the mad old lady with hairy warts on her chin......!

BarchesterFlowers · 13/05/2017 15:16

I have had one of these for 20 years - I have had several things chopped off over the years and see a dermatologist once a year. He told me it was nothing to worry about but I never knew it had a name!

HomityBabbityPie · 13/05/2017 15:23

Probably benign but you can't be too careful - get it checked.

AtlantaGinandTonic · 14/05/2017 22:42

I've got one that looks like that on my thigh. I had it checked by a dermatologist, who said it was nothing to worry about (but I can't remember what she called it!). I would still get it checked, just in case and to put your mind at ease.

No, it's not molluscum.
I've had two of those for years with no change whatsoever.

Dermatologist not worried.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 14/05/2017 22:53

It might be a good idea to stop poking it around OP.

I have a couple on my leg. One's an old mosquito bite, not sure when the other one appeared. They're ugly and I wish they weren't there.

FurryLittleTwerp · 17/05/2017 22:21

Dermatofibroma - common on the legs of women especially, especially in the over 40s. Harmless. Don't tend to go away. Don't become cancerous. Don't have anything inside to squeeze out.

iknowimcoming · 05/06/2017 20:20

I have one on my leg too, dr told me it was a cyst, but unless it actually causes me a problem to leave it be as removing it would leave a scar more noticeable than it.

PlaydoughBarbershop · 12/06/2017 19:34

Second a dermatafibroma . I had two for about 4 years and I am late 20s. Had them removed about 4 weeks ago in a minor surgery clinic as I was catching them shaving. Hoping the scars heal!!

FatGirlWithChocolate · 06/08/2017 21:12

I have one of these on my arm..it's just a small, red, hard lump. Never changes or does anything.

tireddotcom72 · 06/08/2017 21:17

I've got one on my cheekbone it's been there for years. Doesn't bother me so I leave it well alone.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 06/08/2017 22:15

yh they are harmless and more trouble than it's worth to remove them

i've had 2 for years

wigglybeezer · 06/08/2017 22:19

I have two on my leg and one on my arm, my Dad's a dermatologist and says they are dermatofibromas, totally benign.

OldBooks · 09/08/2017 21:18

I have one on my leg! I hate it. Interesting to get an idea of what it could be, I did ask here on Sporners a while ago but only suggestion was molluscum.

OllyBJolly · 09/08/2017 21:26

I have one too. Had it for around 20 years. The GP said it was an ingrown hair or some other trauma that had over healed. No need to worry about it. Don't remember him giving me a name.

Just googled dermatofibromas and that looks exactly what it is.

Gazelda · 09/08/2017 22:01

I've got one of them on my thigh. I'd had a nasty mozzy bite that took ages to clear. The next time I looked at my thigh (not something I do regularly) it had turned into this small hard lump. Doesn't hurt to touch or poke. I've left it alone for about 15 years.

EggysMom · 24/08/2017 21:57

Oh is that what one of those is? (dermatofibroma) I've had one on my calf for about 30 years now! When I was much younger I'd have a go at getting rid manually but nothing would shift it, now I forget it's there.

MCCE · 24/10/2025 16:12

I am not a doctor. But I would have it checked out as I have seen basal cell carnicomas that look similar.

Obviously not before posting or I wouldn't have bothered! I usually don't post online at all so as to avoid unnecessary relies without added value. However I did notice after posting that quite a number of years had gone by and decided to leave it where it is as if anyone puts a photo of a BCC in google lens it may lead them to this post from 2017 in 2025 or any date in the future which could leave them feeling they have a harmless "dermatofibroma" when it may not be the case. Cancer really doesn't care when something was or was not posted. Hope my unnecessary explanation of my own personal appropriate conduct proves insightful for you.
