Not there's there a photo yet as im bunged to the gunnels with it still.

How the hell can I get it out. I'm deaf as a post. A friend looked in my ear with a torch and said its solid black gunk.

She advised a kirby grip. It hasn't helped. I have a diy ear syringe thing and ive been trying that for two days. Am 100% deaf on one side.

Going to try a bit more syringing in a minute. Hot water or cold water, which do,you think is best?

The doctors surgery don't do microsuction which is a shame.

You can't sound a klaxon without a picture!!

situatedknowledge · 24/08/2016 19:14

DH had microsuction done privately. I think it was about £70 but it made him very very happy. Arf.

PikachuSayBoo · 24/08/2016 19:22

£70!

Blimey. Can a non nurse do a course in it and set up a clinic? I can see a career/business opportunity in my area!

I had an ex years ago who used to drink loads then fall into a deep sleep (often), to get my own back I used to pluck out his ingrown beard hairs while he was snoring, and one day I noticed his ear was blocked with hard almost black wax. I carefully loosened it with my eyebrow tweezers over a period of about five days until it eventually came out in one lump. Amazing. Have you got anyone who could do the same for you? (While you're awake)

PurpleDaisies · 24/08/2016 19:40

Do not ask anyone to stick tweezers in your ear!

Again, the cautionary tale of the mumsnetter who perforated her husband's eardrum.

ladygracie · 24/08/2016 19:45

No, I went first with a blocked ear, then again as it wasn't unblocking with drops, then they made me an appt to have them syringed. But the nurse wouldn't do it because I was in pain so I had to see another doctor who referred me & gave me codeine & antibiotics.

PikachuSayBoo · 24/08/2016 19:48

Do won't play.

I don't trust dd

Ive had a go with a hair grip myself and nothing.

How on earth can someone sleep through having beard hair plucked or earwax remived! Shock

DS went to the Dr with ear ache. Dr looked puzzled, then thoughtful, then gleeful. He mentioned syringeing. I asked whether we needed an appointment with the nurse. No, said the Dr, I will take this one.

Foot operated electric syringe was plugged in and the water warmed. I asked (DS is 16 but wanted me there) whether he had time (busy surgery). Oh, yes, he declared.

I swear the Dr was skipping. He chortled with excitement, filtered the gunk into the sink and kept getting DS and me to have a look. Best one in ages, he declared.

I think we made his week. Everyone else probably had dull things wrong with them that day.

PurpleDaisies · 24/08/2016 19:53

That's very unusual rose-you're supposed to use olive oil drops for at least a week before to soften the wax.

ProseccoBitch · 24/08/2016 20:10

He used to get REALLY drunk, he'd sleep through anything.

Roseformeplease · 24/08/2016 21:15

He had been, but to try and DIY out the wax. No expectation of the Dr's glee.

Notthiswankagain · 24/08/2016 21:51

I've told it before, but fuck it...

I had the worst ear wax as a child. My mum used to show people at how bad it was. Dr tried to syringe to no avail and it was complete agony. He sent me off with drops, which I applied regularly for a week. All the while, my ear was more and more painful. Then, all of a sudden, there was loads of gushing red stuff, all lumpy and horrible, like my ear had vomited. My mum told me it was all the wax coming back, although I know now it was a perforated ear dum (mum didn't want to freak me out, it seems) but I've never had the satisfaction of witnessing it being removed.

The ear vomit was good and I kind of wish it would happen again. Sigh...

PikachuSayBoo · 24/08/2016 22:33

Ouch, wasn't that painful?

OP posts:
Notthiswankagain · 25/08/2016 13:40

It was until the ear drum went, then it was blessed sweet relief. That was over 20 years ago, and I still remember the pain of the pressure in my ear. My mum was fond of country and Irish music and when she played it in the car, it was complete agony. Possibly because of the bass, or just an intolerance to shit music. When the ear drum burst, it let all the nasty stuff out and the pain considerably lessened.

That being said, I do have issues with the same ear. My hearing isn't as hot and it does get sore.

BoopTheSnoot · 08/09/2016 00:04

Any updates on this? Love a bit of earwax!

CalmItKermitt · 08/09/2016 00:12

Does anyone still actually believe ear candles work?! 🙄

Hint - sit one in a cup, light it and it'll be full of wax......because it's the CANDLE that's full of wax.
