I am still unsure about giving my children Salmon - what's the current advice on giving salmon - in terms on portion size and how often ?

lovemyflipflops · 27/11/2023 08:43

Sometimes I use frozen vegetables - I'm busy - it's quicker and easier - I have heard they are the same vitamin content - but due to them being frozen for up to 3 months - is this true ? does the vitamin content lessen over time when frozen ? tia

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 27/11/2023 09:11

My daughter has a very sweet tooth, but now she's 12, she is really stacking on weight. She comes in from school hungry at 4pm, won't eat fruit, what high protein snack can I have for her that's as appealing as biscuits?

jacqui5366 · 27/11/2023 13:18

Are children's vitamins worth it for a top up ?

Montydoo · 28/11/2023 10:47

Butter or margarine on sandwiches ? I have heard so much conflicting advice on good and bad fats ? (sticking to butter for now)

lillypopdaisyduke · 28/11/2023 18:07

If they won't eat 5 a day - would a vitamin supplement be ok to ensure they have enough vitamins and minerals - and if dairy intollerent how does this help also

Daisypod · 28/11/2023 18:32

I have 2 very picky eaters, they are autistic and I'm sure this is linked.
Many people say to me fed is best but is that true?
They will mostly only eat rubbish for dinner (chicken nuggets, sausages and pizza) and rubbish snacks with very little fruit and veg.
Is it best to just let them eat the things they will eat or limit what I give them in the hope they will eat healthier foods?
One child is already borderline underweight.

itsywitsy · 29/11/2023 14:31

Can your five a day - be all of the same fruit or vegetables (carrots and 'nana's are their favourite food)

HobNobAddict · 02/12/2023 15:41

Fresh or frozen - organic and non - is there much difference nutritionally ?

jacqui5366 · 04/12/2023 12:10

Do you think the minimum standards for school meals are satisfactory ? ''one or more portions of fruit and vegetables every day. one or more portions of starchy food, such as bread or pasta every day. a portion of food containing milk or dairy every day'' I think not - but feel helpless about knowing how to change or campaign about more fruit and veg - which they will enjoy eating - in the limited time they have

LittleDeeAndME · 06/12/2023 10:20

I've seen ready meals for children (Annabel Karmel for example) I havn't used them yet - but as a quick meal, or when they go to grannys, - but what are your thoughts on children's ready meals in terms of additives and salt ?

littlecottonbud · 06/12/2023 13:38

What would you recommend are 'essentials' in a lunchbox ? what juices are best, brown bread or granary, tuna in sunflower or brine - and what are the best desserts for a school lunchbox. ?

Montydoo · 06/12/2023 18:25

What are your thoughts on oat and almond milk against cows milk for youngsters ?

ohdannyboy · 08/12/2023 11:02

Is frozen as good as fresh, and are own brand frozen peas and carrots for example any good - I sometimes use these midweek for a quick tea

JacCharlton · 12/12/2023 09:52

What's the best oil to cook in when I am browning food ? - I am confused about good and bad fats 😟

Montydoo · 13/12/2023 16:35

How do you work out how many calories a child needs - is there a guidance based on height and age and weight.

pushchairprincess · 17/12/2023 07:28

Give me your tip 3 vegetables/fruit which your DC should be eating daily - and can you explain good fats and bad fats in a diet - butter or butter like spreads ??

My DS(8) has been a very fussy eater since he was 16 months old when he started rejecting foods. He has not eaten vegetables since he was 18 months old, hardly ever eats any fruit, has an insatiable thirst for eating snacks, and barely drinks too.

He saw a dietician at age 4 for 18 months and she decided he was choosing to be fussy. Lately he has tried corn on the cob and tuna pasta but you can actually see him visually struggling to chew and swallow, even though he appears to like the taste.

At what point could this be considered a possibly sensory issue rather than just general fussiness? I’m so worried about his poor diet, and we have tried absolutely every ring to get him to eat well to no avail.

Thanks @Frozenone , Dr Zoe has answered your question

Do you think that 'hiding' vegetables into meals is enough (carrots, yellow and red peppers, onions) I started to blend them and add to meals (mainly mince dishes) really to introduce to the palette, now I grate carrot and onion, and stil bend peppers - I have tried chopping and dicing but they used to pull them out of the meal. I'd love to make mealtimes easier and to see them with a carrot on a fork

Hi @JacCharlton thanks for the question, here's Dr Zoe's response

How would you make meals more flavoursome for toddlers without adding salt ? My purees taste so bland - I know I would not eat them - but I don't want to use too much salt or pepper - I am thinking about herbs - but not sure if i should be doing this

Hi @pushchairprincess Dr Zoe has shared her tips :)

I made a dreaded mistake of taking my DS to Mac (you know who's) for a happy meal - and it's all he talks about wanting - I want to keep them as a treat - and a rare one at that - any tips on how to get him off this obsession and wanting 'normal' food again. I have tried home made burgers and air fried wedges but only after lots of encouragement will it be eaten

Hi @lovemyflipflops here's Dr Zoe's advice -

My ten year old boy has never been very interested in food or eating. He eats a limited range of foods, is reluctant to try new food and goes off food he previously liked regularly. He’s unusually small for his age.

Do you have any advice?

Hi @Nolongerlight thanks for your interesting question, here's Dr Zoe's advice
