Savings or investing? Cash ISAs or stocks and shares ISAs? Should you invest for yourself or your children…...it’s safe to say there is a fair amount to think about when it comes to your money and it can be difficult to sift through all the information out there to find out what you really need to know. We conducted a survey last year with over 1,500 MNers & GNers and found that 18% would like to invest their money but don’t know the best way to do so and 10% don’t know the best way to save their money. With that in mind, Legal & General are here to answer any questions you have around savings and investments.

Here is some more information on Helena Morrissey from Legal & General: “Helena Morrissey DBE, Head of Personal Investing. Helena joined Legal & General in 2017 as Head of Personal Investing and has been leading the drive to ensure that the benefits of investing are better understood and widely available, with a particular focus on improving women’s financial wellbeing. Prior to joining Legal & General Helena was CEO of Newton Investment Management.”

Here is what Legal & General have to say: “A nudge in the right direction can often kick start a saving habit that can help with a more secure financial future. Getting started even with a little and often for you and/or your children can really pay off over the long term. It’s never too late to start saving and investing, so if you haven’t started yet what’s stopping you?”

Whether you have questions about the best way to begin investing, or creating an ISA account, how much you should be saving or any questions around how to save for your child’s future, ask them on the thread below and we will choose 10 for Helena to answer.

Everyone who posts their question on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where 3 MNers will win a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

How can we Brexit-Proof our savings?

Ikea1234 · 18/02/2019 07:50

Our annual review is coming up for our savings accounts (they're annual accounts you have to close down then reopen every year) but I can't help thinking there's better interest rates out there. What's the best high street interest rate for both adults and children at the moment? Instant access not required!

I am a SAHM .. what is the best way I can put away some money each month to start a nest egg? Nothing with interest just straight up saving? Is there an account like this out there?

punishmepunisher · 18/02/2019 08:26

Is it a good idea to consolidate your work pensions, if you have several from different employers?

TearingUpMyHeart · 18/02/2019 08:29

Can I move my childrens savings into their younger siblings accounts as they reach 18? It would be safer then and I could givebit to them mid 20s

Batfink78 · 18/02/2019 09:10

Do children have the same chance of winning with Premium Bonds?

maureen3733 · 18/02/2019 09:46

is there any way we can pay off student debt faster ?

HumberElla · 18/02/2019 13:36

I have been considering setting up a savings account for my children, but would struggle to put more than a few pounds away regularly as we have limited income and hefty outgoings (chiefly mortgage and childcare). Is there a way to invest rather than just save, with so little interest on the limited amount we could put into an account, I'd be interested in other options such as stocks or bonds.

amck13 · 18/02/2019 13:41

How much should I be saving for my child's future??

Constantsarechanging · 18/02/2019 13:58

How do you start/where do you start with regards to stocks and shares? Can you start investing with a small amount, say £1000?

WhiteKnuckleRide · 18/02/2019 15:21

My workplace pension contributions increased last year from 2% to 3% and will increase again in April 2019 to 5%, with my employer contributing as well. I am 27. Should i be worried that my money wont stay safe from now until i retire? What happens if i move jobs or lose paperwork relating to my pension fund before i can have access to it in 30 years time?

AdamBarlowsQuiff · 18/02/2019 15:28

I used to pay into a pension but since becoming a stay at home mum have ceased to. I also don't have any savings but am thinking I should start an emergency fund. Is an ISA the best place for this if it's something I may well dip into for unexpected car repairs etc?

GregoryPeckingDuck · 18/02/2019 19:06

Is there any point in putting long term savings into a savings account given the low interest rates?

rennie1811 · 18/02/2019 21:09

Should you continue to save in the old childrens trust funds or go for something like an ISA?

ellie17 · 18/02/2019 21:34

Is it better to have a lifetime isa or private pension? what is the difference?

What's the best (long-term, tax efficient) investment vehicle for an initial investment of around £10k, with probably £2.5k added each year. DD is 12 weeks and PIL want to give us this for her post-university/house buying etc (so around 20 - 25 years minimum investment or longer)

ailsasheldon · 19/02/2019 05:28

Can you give advice about where to start with VCTs please

badgermum · 19/02/2019 08:53

My oldest has just turned 18 what is his best way to save for a deposit on a house

jimi324 · 19/02/2019 09:46

We are saving a deposit towards our first home, but we don't know which is more suitable for us to use a Help to buy ISA or a LISA?

TiggersAngel7774 · 19/02/2019 11:36

we want to move but house not on market atm. We have enough to clear current mortgage saved but new house going to cost a lot more. Should we clear current mortgage ? As i worry we get used to better standard of living if we mortgage free for a bit

JC4PMPLZ · 19/02/2019 14:36

there is no point. I get about 14p interest a quarter - why would I bother?

SuzCG · 19/02/2019 17:53

How much risk should I be willing to take with my children's savings? Bear in mind I am quite nervous and risk averse...

mamof3boys · 19/02/2019 20:33

I currently still have child trust funds for my three children. Should I or can I transfer these into Junior ISA's?

LizB62A · 19/02/2019 20:57

Bearing in mind the changes in pension freedom changes over the past few years, are there any sort of rough guidlines on when to leave my money in the pension scheme (whenever I end up retiring) or withdraw it and put it into a drawdown scheme?
e.g. "if my pension CETV is more than x times my annual pension income, it makes more sense to withdraw it as I'm more likely to end up with something to leave to my family" (as the pension will die with me, no partner or dependent children now)
