Savings or investing? Cash ISAs or stocks and shares ISAs? Should you invest for yourself or your children…...it’s safe to say there is a fair amount to think about when it comes to your money and it can be difficult to sift through all the information out there to find out what you really need to know. We conducted a survey last year with over 1,500 MNers & GNers and found that 18% would like to invest their money but don’t know the best way to do so and 10% don’t know the best way to save their money. With that in mind, Legal & General are here to answer any questions you have around savings and investments.

Here is some more information on Helena Morrissey from Legal & General: “Helena Morrissey DBE, Head of Personal Investing. Helena joined Legal & General in 2017 as Head of Personal Investing and has been leading the drive to ensure that the benefits of investing are better understood and widely available, with a particular focus on improving women’s financial wellbeing. Prior to joining Legal & General Helena was CEO of Newton Investment Management.”

Here is what Legal & General have to say: “A nudge in the right direction can often kick start a saving habit that can help with a more secure financial future. Getting started even with a little and often for you and/or your children can really pay off over the long term. It’s never too late to start saving and investing, so if you haven’t started yet what’s stopping you?”

Whether you have questions about the best way to begin investing, or creating an ISA account, how much you should be saving or any questions around how to save for your child’s future, ask them on the thread below and we will choose 10 for Helena to answer.

Everyone who posts their question on the thread below will be entered into a prize draw where 3 MNers will win a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

I am retired, have a little savings, but I am not sure where to put this savings to get the best returns, I am due to receive my state pension this year so the savings will be mainly for treats and holidays, but I would like it to earn a little for me

katieskatie82 · 16/02/2019 23:37

whats the best savings account for my 8 year old son?

Anise7438 · 17/02/2019 07:04

We try to save each month between£200&£700 and this helps us pay for holidays etc. We have a sum of money built up. We are unsure whether to leave it in an instant access low rate account or move it into an ISA. Or do we overpay the mortgage?

JanuarySun · 17/02/2019 08:28

I try to keep my savings in the highest interest account but it seems to involve so much messing about. There are limits on how much you can pay in, or a set amount monthly or after a year the interest drops to fuck all.. Is there somewhere simple and straightforward I could put money?

Michellemm · 17/02/2019 09:08

Is an isa really better than a straight savings account?

sarah861421 · 17/02/2019 09:29

I have recently inherited 45K which I will be using for a house at the end of the year, My husband wants to put the money into Premium Bonds, do you have an alternative where I can still get instant access

bryonywilson91 · 17/02/2019 12:20

cheryl100 · 17/02/2019 14:15

I'm 41 and just bought my first house. Would I be better off overpaying my mortgage or trying to build my pension pot? I've been a stay at home mum for years so have only started paying into a pension 3 years ago and my pension forecast looks bleak.

Moonlight1 · 17/02/2019 17:31

Should I be trying to save all my money in one place? Or should I try and get good deals at different places?

If you have a relatively small amount of savings currently but expect it to grow in the future what should you be doing? Sticking it in a savings account? Seeking advice?

tabbaz123 · 17/02/2019 18:35

Are ISA's really worth it now - they have such low interest rates and what is the difference between Cash ISA an the others ?

IonaAilidh11 · 17/02/2019 18:56

what account is best for savings

sylwright · 17/02/2019 18:56

I have some money which is earning hardly any interest at all. Can you recommend the best place to put it to earn some interest whilst still being easy to access it as I have ongoing work at home and need to be able to get at it quickly.

Lisapaige24 · 17/02/2019 20:06

I have been putting money in a savings I opened up 10 years ago for my daughter also for my son the last 3 years do you think it is better to put it in an ISA so when they want to get a mortgages it will benefit them more having it in an ISA I know it’s quite a while off but it’s important to think of the future my husband thinks we should ask a financial advisor to see if we should invest it but am not sure if that would be safe to do

What's the difference between a gilt and a bond?

Dormouse1940 · 17/02/2019 20:45

I don't have much of a pension from previous jobs, and currently I'm working part time and am not eligible to join my company pension scheme. How is the best way to save for my retirement independently?

stimpy1 · 17/02/2019 21:44

Is there a way of saving a few pence here and there, i would love to be able to round up my shopping to the nearest £5 and that money goes automatically into my savings/investments. I wouldn't miss it so much and I guess it would mount up quickly

Cailin7 · 17/02/2019 22:14

some of our DCs are at the start of their work careers and others at university. They all have savings. what is the best advice we can give them regarding pensions and ways to continue to save or invest.

chl0e123 · 17/02/2019 22:43

Hi I am just wondering if I can transfer my daughters trust fund that she was entitled to from the government, I believe it's with a stock share foresters, but we would prefer moving it as it's only 1.5 % and we have saved over £1500 so far and just think it would be more beneficial with a higher rate and we want a brand we know well and trust, how do I go about switching it over.

DoraBastable · 17/02/2019 22:55

What's the best way to save for my children to go to university, please? How much should I be thinking of putting aside for each of them and is it better to do this in my name or in their names?
