Whether you’ve had any problems with getting pregnant or not, fertility can be quite confusing. Therefore CARE Fertility would love you to ask your fertility questions to their experts: Professor Arri Coomarasamy, Dr Sue Montgomery and Judith Byrne.

Here’s what CARE Fertility have to say: “It’s time to talk about fertility. 1 in every 6 people trying for a baby will experience challenges getting pregnant. CARE Fertility are the UK’s leading fertility clinic with over 28,000 CARE babies born to date. At CARE we will do everything we can for every person who needs our help, to give everyone the very best chance of having a baby of their own.
CARE Fertility have clinics all over the UK, from London to Sheffield and Manchester, Nottingham, Northampton, Tunbridge Wells and Birmingham, and more. Our experts for this Q&A include expertise from three of our Clinics.”

Do you have a question about conceiving? Maybe you’d like to know more about freezing your eggs? Or perhaps you’d like some more information on IVF? Whatever fertility questions you’d like to know the answer to, CARE Fertility’s experts are here to help.

Please post your questions on the thread below and we’ll choose 15 for Professor Arri Coomarasamy, Dr Sue Montgomery and Judith Byrne to answer and then post a link to the responses as soon as possible. Everyone who posts their questions will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £150 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Here is some information about the experts:
Professor Arri Coomarasamy is Medical Director at our Birmingham clinic. He's well known for his research at the University of Birmingham into early pregnancy care, reproductive medicine and global women's health, and is also the Director of Tommy's National Centre for Miscarriage Care and Research.

Dr Sue Montgomery is the Laboratory Manager at CARE Manchester. Sue has over 20 years of clinical embryology experience.

Judith Byrne, Clinic Director at our Northampton clinic and one of our most experienced team members with over 30 years fertility nursing experience.

Thanks and good luck

I'm coming up to 39. How much & been on the mirena for 10 years. Is it going to be a struggle to conceive? We really want 1 more baby to complete our family before I'm 40 but I'm concerned my age & being on coil for so long will go against us

AVT5 · 02/02/2018 13:47

without a period, and still breastfeeding, what are the chances of conceiving postpartum?

hotchocforme · 02/02/2018 15:55

I am not ttc as am happy with my family size, but I have friends who have been through cancer and chemotherapy before starting a family. One friend was not advised to harvest eggs before treatment (I was offered this but declined).

Do you treat cancer survivors, and how is fertility affected post-chemo?

My Niece is on her third round of ivf, each time she has had between 10-15 eggs removed but come the time to have them implanted there's only 1 viable egg the last attempt was grade A which failed..She has been told she has unexplained fertility issues, but would the fact her eggs keep deteriorating not be an indicator of something explainable?

Why is there such a low level of understanding of fertility, female cycles etc among the medical profession, and a desire to jump to technological solutions before fully exploring all the possibilities which could have easier solutions? (I'm not against fertility technology, but having tried to engage GPs in conversation about things that were concerning me (short luteal phase, lack of cervical mucus etc) and basically being told 'go away and have more sex' I have little faith in the level of understanding. Fortunately I conceived eventually having looked for my own solutions to the issues (and I appreciate that I have no evidence about which did or didn't make a difference), but I've watched people fast tracked into IVF etc with seemingly no exploration of their concerns.)

I have pcos and have recently had a miscarriage. I've been told during ultrasound scans both to confirm pcos and in early pregnancy that I have fibroids. Could they have caused the misscarriage? What can I do about this issue?

SuzCG · 03/02/2018 16:54

When you have been pregnant once, should it be easier to conceive in the future?

Angelfaced · 03/02/2018 19:38

I'm 38 is that to old to try for another baby?

Stickladilove · 04/02/2018 08:30

Do thyroid problems cause infertility?

WineCheeseSleep · 20/02/2018 12:22

Were answers ever given to any of these questions? Not sure if I missed another thread perhaps?
