This is the feedback thread for the MNers who attended an exclusive event where they were given tips and advice for protecting themselves against financial scams and fraud, as well as enjoying special treats to ‘take five’ out of their busy lives.

Here’s what Take Five have to say: “Our research shows that many people do not feel confident that they could identify a fraudulent approach. Therefore the event will aim to empower and inspire parents to feel better prepared to ‘confidently challenge’ fraudsters, and recognise signs of fraud - remembering the mantra – My Money? My Info? I don’t think so.”

Attendees, please answer the questions below:

  • Can you tell us what the key message for Take Five was?
  • Do you think having attended the event would help you identify fraud and scams in the future?
  • What would you say you learnt the most about at the event?
  • Would you say that you know more about fraud and scams since attending the event?
  • Following the event, how would you describe what you’ve learnt - in a nutshell - to a friend who didn’t attend?

Non-attendees - To be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £150 John Lewis voucher, please share on the thread how you 'take five' out of your busy lives to relax.

All attendees who post answers to the above questions below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 John Lewis voucher.

If you weren’t able to attend, you can watch the talk on fraud here.

Thanks and good luck!

Non-attendee. Take 5 mins to sit down with a coffee.

Halebeke425 · 07/12/2017 22:42

Non attendee - I take five with a cup of coffee and a browse on mumsnet

gemsi · 07/12/2017 23:17

I didn't attend but that way I 'take five' out of my busy life is pretty much after my 23 month old has gone to bed, lol. That's the only time I get to relax really, she doesn't take afternoon naps anymore so that little afternoon slot doesn't happen, ha ha.
So cosying up on the sofa with a cuppa and the soaps is my idea of taking five once the little one is in bed. Otherwise, if there is nothing on I will have a hot bath, a face mask and read my book!

Stephgr8 · 07/12/2017 23:17

Non-attendee. Whenever my children are out of the house I pick up a novel and lie in a warm bath for as long as possible!

marymod · 07/12/2017 23:58

I take five by getting up earlier than the rest of the family and having a cup of tea either in the garden or looking at the garden and thinking about the day ahead and planning what I need to do. Having that calm time sets me up for the day ahead.

Attendee - thank you very much for a lovely, informative evening.
Here's my responses:
Attendees, please answer the questions below:

  • Can you tell us what the key message for Take Five was?
Two things: that anyone can be a victim of fraud - it's not reserved for vulnerable or ill-informed people, and that taking 5 minutes before responding to things helps you clarify whether it is safe or not.
  • Do you think having attended the event would help you identify fraud and scams in the future?
Yes - I think the examples of fraud were helpful in showing just how clever fraudsters can be. Needing to be vigilant - but not scared - is the key.
  • What would you say you learnt the most about at the event?
That calling back people who purport to be from your bank or utility provider is sensible, but from another phone number and with a number you know for the bank.
  • Would you say that you know more about fraud and scams since attending the event?
Yes, I would.
  • Following the event, how would you describe what you’ve learnt - in a nutshell - to a friend who didn’t attend?
Be vigilant - do not rush to reply to emails but take 5 minutes to think. There is no need to reply immediately to an email. Fraudsters can be very clever indeed.

Thank you again!

Non attendee...

I take 5 by going to the hairdresser and nearly falling asleep when I'm having my hair washed.
Going to work.
Mumsnetting at 4am while feeding the baby.

ClashCityRocker · 08/12/2017 08:09

I take five out of my busy life by napping. I think naps should make a comeback.

vickyors · 08/12/2017 08:20

Non-attendee.
I take five in my day by leaving walking away from work in the evening listening to a really great song. If I ever have time in the day, I go to a quiet corridor at work which happens to have chair, and I sit and have 5 quiet minutes. People don't tend to pass by, and I know I can take a moment and just have a pause.

RestingGrinchFace · 08/12/2017 11:18

I 'take five' on mumsnet Wink

both me and my husband escape by horse riding, albeit not together anymore like pre-children! we take it in turns to go out and have some breathing space, if we ever get a chance then we ride together.
If I cant get out its come dine with me and a pot of tea :)

kateandme · 08/12/2017 13:51

Summergarden · 08/12/2017 15:59

Non attendee here.

I take five by relaxing in a hot bubble bath and a good book in the evening when the kids are asleep. It feels so luxurious.

ladygoingGaga · 08/12/2017 20:06

I take five by getting up before the rest of the house, that short time pottering around with a cuppa in peace is lovely. The rare time I’m in the car on my own, I car sing to a song my DC’s would utterly disprove of. Guaranteed to arrive at home or work with a broad grin then.

MummyBtothree · 09/12/2017 07:52

Non-attendee
I don't get a great deal of time for myself at all but while I'm in the car waiting for the DC to come out of school I like to use my phone to enter competitions online & have managed to win some lovely things.

GetSchwifty · 09/12/2017 17:38

Non atendee: if I have the time I use a mediation app on my phone. Or I just have a cup of tea and a biscuit.

EasterRobin · 10/12/2017 07:28

Non-attendee here. I like to take five by lying down in bed, closing my eyes and listening to a radio comedy or science programme.

Theimpossiblegirl · 10/12/2017 18:50

Non-attendee
I take 5 with a cuppa and Mumsnet a good book.

outnumbered77 · 10/12/2017 20:10

Non-attendee - I don’t ‘take 5’ nearly enough but do like to lose myself in a book if I can find time.

The event sounded really interesting too.
