  1. Playing mat for tummy time and playing time
  2. Muslin cloths fan here too
  3. Self-sterilising MAM bottles - so convenient and efficient
  4. Pampers nappies - the only kind that don't leak for me
  5. Weleda Calendula baby products - great and gentle on babies
  6. Baby bathtub - honestly most that I've come across aren't suitable for newborns, but I recommend getting one that has a space for the head and for baby's bottom to go.

Most useful thing I was given out of all basics was baby nail clippers. DS had ezcema so these were used every week until he needed to start using normal sized ones at the age of around 8!

After too many explosive nappies, we mostly stuck to separate tops and bottoms rather than sleepsuits.

Two parents who are present and happy together in order to provide a stable, loving home environment for the child that they created together. After that the rest is easy.

Baby wipes. Yes, when you have a baby you will use a million, yes when you have a toddler you will still use a million but as your toddler grows you will find that you will always find a use for them - in your car, home or on holiday.
So you can’t buy too many!

The high chair from Ikea.

Colourful stacking pots

Ella’s kitchen pouches have been a life savour for us when we are really busy running on empty and out for the day! We don’t use them all the time but it’s such a great invention that we love!

MayCottage · 18/04/2026 13:37

My must haves were a good barrier cream, water wipes for everything and hooded bathtowels for keeping warm after the daily bath when they were tiny it swaddled them totally !
Love to stock up on johnsons bath - it just has the best smell, and love it on my hands afterwards.

junkoenoshima · 18/04/2026 13:53

I swear by the tesco non-bio capsules, performs just as well as Fairy and a fraction of the price, I would stock up on nappies - a massive saving at 54% off - and the Munchin stay put suction bowl - for at home and just as importantly when we eat out, saves having them thrown on the floor, and helps with co-ordination when they are getting food on a spoon in the early days - no more frustration.

My husband 😊

Runningshorts · 19/04/2026 06:58

Child's farm shampoo, conditioner and body wash products.
Other products gave my son terrible eczema but no problems after we switched to Child's farm.

cmonspring · 19/04/2026 08:30

loads of muslin cloths!

Tensetickle · 20/04/2026 23:00

The child's farm shampoo and water wipes. My son had incredibly sensitive skin but was always fine with these

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 21/04/2026 00:06

Premixed formula, bottle, dummy, hand pump, nipple shoes and nipple cream. As you don’t know how feeding will go!

UnbelievableJefff · 21/04/2026 20:58

My absolute must have was the ‘My Carry Potty’ when potty training - so handy and well designed for taking out on trips. Also Jojo maman bebe sleeping bags/sacks - pricey but well worth it for quality and longevity.

DoNotSitDownNextToMe · 23/04/2026 21:47

Ear thermometer. Without a doubt the most useful item to buy or to ask for as a present.

SearchingTheSkies · 23/04/2026 21:54

Bibadoo bibs - they wrap around the high chair table so no food drops down.

SlimShadyPines · 25/04/2026 13:23

Wipes. They clean up not only the baby, but pretty much every type of mess in the house!

Bobbieiris · 25/04/2026 17:43

Tesco F+F nappies and wipes, loads of muslins, a bouncer and moses basket, Milton tablets and a nuby rapid cool were all essentials, plus a good baby gym to keep my twins occupied :)

MissMuddy · 25/04/2026 19:48

F&F nappies and wipes are honestly top tier, such good quality for the price. Completely swear by them.

Our little one loves his sensory toys, especially his playmat and bouncer, great for keeping him entertained.

Muslins are an absolute essential too… I don’t think you can ever have enough. They’re used for everything.

buckleycat1983 · 25/04/2026 23:46

The absolute game changer for me was the Tommee Tippee Portable Travel Baby Bottle Warmer - really just a simple flask, but with a big lid which you can pour the water into, then put the bottle into that to warm - I used to take this upstairs with me at night so I could warm my son's bottles without having to go down into the cold - such a simple thing, but it felt like a revelation & made the night feeds sooo much easier!
Also the Cheeky Wipes washable wipes were brilliant - essentially just small, square, soft flannels which can be used in a multitude of ways (& which I still use!) - genius!

Woohootwoo · 27/04/2026 16:38

Tommee tipper prep machine. Absolute game changer.
Changing bag for the pram , small and compact but held everything I needed without taken a massive bag everywhere.

Outnumbere · 28/04/2026 08:11

My must haves for baby
Baby wipes
Muslin cloths
A really good barrier cream.
I used to swear by the yellow metanium but its been discontinued..I've not found one as good since.

Twinkletots1 · 28/04/2026 10:48

Water wipes. An absolute must have throughout the baby and toddler years. I also think Tesco do great toddlers snacks!

ByNavyBear · 28/04/2026 11:06
