I draw on methods from the curly girl method, one of those is only brush when wet! It really makes a difference

My 2 year old daughter has curly hair and it is a nightmare to brush since it knots from the roots. She often ends up with a birds nest at the back of her head every morning from moving in the night. I put some normal conditioner (a banana one) and water through the ends each day and detangle the looser knots with my fingers and the tighter knots (the bird nest!) with the tangle teaser. I only brush through the rest when her hair is being washed.

Get them to wear swimming goggles for the dreaded rinsing of the shampoo 😜 Then lots of conditioner to make sure it’s easy to brush. We then have a routine of watching a favourite TV programme whilst I brush her hair and it dries naturally.

Regular trimming to keep the length under control means that the almost inevitable head lice infestation that seems almost a rite of passage, is slightly less of a nightmare to deal with

For us a detangling spray - don't buy the supermarket own brands though - In just ended up wasting the last one as it did not help with the hair brushing - a wide brush or comb and a good conditioner - I like the palmers brand for anti-frizz

Detangling brushes are great. Years ago I had such tangly hair as a child my mum was so happy to see a spray called Tangles Without Tears. It helped a bit. But for me and my children it was the brushes that worked and when they didn't, chop chop!!

A loose ponytail at night for girls and plaits at school to avoid lice! A good conditioner helps and a good quality brush for regular brushing.

Brushing their hair before washing helps to prevent the knotting in the first place. Any stubborn tangles can be gently teased out with a wide tooth comb and a small amount of Argan oil.

Sleep on a silk pillowcase

spikeandbuffy24 · 05/09/2024 20:28

Hold the hair so you don't pull on the scalp and detangle from ends upwards

LittleDeeAndME · 08/09/2024 09:24

Invest in a good detangling brush, and try to brush first in the bath whilst the hair has conditioner on - before rinsing.
