For us a leave in conditioner with a wide tooth comb initially, and working down to a comb. Once I get this down to the fine comb - I am also reducing the risk of headlice - as it's a duel treatment for us. For dry hair - a detangling spray is sometimes needed.

Loads of conditioner and only brushing when wet.

Decals on the ceiling to encourage looking up!

Yougetmoreofwhatyoufocuson · 12/07/2024 10:43

All of the above plus a lovely piece of ‘Granny’s Hair wash chocolate’ reward for no crying and complaining.

Satin pillow, instensive hair conditioner spray, distraction and a tangle teaser brush.

My tip would be to invest in a quality detangling brush (they were based from brushed to brush horses manes - and were altered for finer hair)
I had my detangling brush for 3 years now and would not be without it - along with a detangling spray for knots is the only effective way IMO

thank you

Tangle teezer to comb through with conditioner. Or leave in conditioner/spray if on a non-washing day.

Like others - a detangling brush - I bought one from Amazon after reading the reviews ofter tears after bathtime and before school - they no longer dread the morning hair brushing - curly hair is just beautiful but a chore to keep from knotting. I also use a detangling spray which helps too.

CassandraWebb · 13/07/2024 13:29

Decent conditioner and a decent detangling brush! And then we have turned hair combing time into a time when we have a really good chat about stuff so DD looks forward to it as a nice way to spend time together.

My hair gets really tangly because of medication I am on and DH finds it helpful to gently tease apart the worst of the tangles before he begins brushing. (I can't brush my own hair as my arms are very weak). I like to watch TV while he does it as I need a distraction!

Child’s farm detangler spray, and the pink unicorn tangle teezer brush

HobNobAddict · 13/07/2024 16:14

I use the Avon Magnificent Mango Detangler Spray, and the Avon Advance Techniques Pro Detangling Brush- both are really the best I have tried - the brush is a weird design - but it works. A try not to let hair get too long, and use a conditioner to help too.

DanBenandBud · 14/07/2024 08:51

I read the reviews on detangling spray and a brush which works on curly hair, and tried a couple, I finally found that combing with a conditioner for dry hair just after washing, then after rinsing, a detangling spray and brush.

problembottom · 14/07/2024 14:28

Detangling sprays don’t work for DD, 5, at all. I find using loads and loads of conditioner before combing through with a Tangle Teezer (not just saying this, she says any other brush hurts too much) works well.

ohdannyboy · 15/07/2024 08:29

What works for us is keeping hair in plaits, washing with a dry hair shampoo, a conditioner, and combing hair whilst the conditioner has had time to work, i find rubbing a little conditioner into my hands and rubbing damp hair and brushing any knots out and leaving to air dry works. Having a trim for split ends really helps the condition of hair too.
Thanks for all the tips above - I've read them all.

I didn't know tangleteezer made so many products 😬 My tips would be to brush with a soft brush and conditioner before rinsing - and try to get a hairstyle which does not encourage hair knots - we love french plaits - so pretty

lovemyflipflops · 15/07/2024 13:22

I have a small tangle teezer brush which fits into the palm of my hand, and although it does take some time. knots gradually disappear without pulling, plus between washes a detangling spray is useful - Boots do a good version which I use.

Aeroplane wall stickers on the bathroom ceiling! DS is happy to tilt his head back if he can see the planes and count them, talk about the colours etc.

They're cheap so easily replaced when needed and you can do any theme your kids like 😊

AphraBean · 15/07/2024 14:29

Teaching my boys to put their heads right back and look at the ceiling light - so the water doesn't go in their eyes.

Using a conditioner and a wide tooth comb to avoid tangles.

Loulouli · 15/07/2024 22:38

My little boy is extremely sensitive when it comes to brushing his hair. And he has very long hair... Last resort is his favourite show, lots of conditioner spray and gentle brushing with a tangle teezer...

BBLibra · 16/07/2024 00:06

We often use conditioning spray with the Tangle Teezer when my little boy’s hair is longer. Otherwise the Tangle Teezer on its own does the job! Very often he agrees to let me comb through his hair if I agree to let him comb mine. He’s getting quite good at it now!

MidnightPomegranite · 16/07/2024 17:33

Agree with the diving mask and snorkel! Goggles also help. Letting them lie back under the gently running tap for a good rinse. And yes, like everyone else, a tangle teaser brush

FromCuddleLand · 18/07/2024 18:43

I use a detangling spray and comb and am very slow and gentle. Also, I dont let their hair get too long.

Leave in conditioner. Always works

mindtheGAAP · 22/07/2024 18:41

Both my girls have long hair prone to tangles, I braid their hair for overnight which helps. We use conditioner and detangle spray, and partitioning hair into manageable sections when brushing through tangles.

hopezibah1 · 22/07/2024 22:48

top tip from my hairdresser was to condition hair BEFORE shampoo - totally blew my mind to do it that way around but really helps with having less tangled hair. We also love our tangle teeze brush which comes everywhere with us
