Family is everything, and we know introducing your furry child to its new human sibling can be a very special moment. We’re asking parents (including expecting) to share their tips on how you’ve prepared your dog or cat for the arrival of a newborn baby.

Post your stories and advice below to be entered into a prize draw. One Mumsnet user will win a £200 voucher. Mumsnet Insight T&Cs apply

Here’s what John Lewis Finance has to say:
We know that pets are more than just companions; they're part of the family. With John Lewis Pet Insurance, the health of your pet is always top priority. There are six levels of vet fee cover to choose from, up to £12,000, so you can pick your cover to fit your pet’s needs. Regardless of what level of vet fee cover you choose, the full range of benefits are included, such as Annual Online Health checks and a 24/7 vetfone™ helpline for all customers. For the level of care your pet deserves, with the quality you’d expect from John Lewis.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

We read 'There's a house inside my mummy' and got toddler DD helping to sort the baby clothes. The midwife also let her listen to the baby's heartbeat at a check up. TBH I don't think she took any of the above in Grin.

No, but hopefully your dog did?

We didn’t really do anything tbh, it didn’t cross our minds to. When we arrived home we allowed the dog to gently sniff her and get used to her.

We started a new routine where our cat didn't have access to the baby's room or our room from pregnancy, so she had time to get used to this. We did this because I don't think it's safe having a pet able to go freely where the baby might be sleeping. We made our cat a comfy bed in two other places in the house, but of course she'd rather sleep on my laptop or my book!
