Mumsnet users share who they'd invite for dinner after lockdown with Barilla

Lockdown measures are still firmly in place and getting together with friends and family can feel like a distant memory, and it’s easy to daydream about what we’ll do once our daily lives begin to resemble our old version of normality again, including inviting friends or family over. With that in mind, Barilla would like to hear about how you’ve hosted and socialised during lockdown and who you’re most looking forward to welcoming into your home for a big bowl of pasta once this is over.

Have you missed hosting family and friends? Watch Barilla’s cookalong from last week and create a virtually (Grin) perfect Italian night with Gennaro Contaldo.

Here’s what Barilla has to say: “Italians love nothing more than getting friends and family around to share good food and good times. Barilla is the biggest family pasta-maker in Italy, so we’re proud to be right at the heart of those moments. Lots of people have been eating our authentic pasta on lockdown, all around the world. But we know the key ingredient is the other people around the table. So we’ve been looking for ways to help people play host – even if that means, for now, doing so at a distance.”

How are you hosting or taking part in social events during lockdown? Perhaps you’ve been hosting quizzes with friends, taking part in virtual cook alongs or group Zoom calls? Are you eager to host a dinner party with friends once this is over, or to simply have your sister over for drinks once the kids have gone to bed?

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 voucher towards a weekly food shop (from a supermarket of your choice) provided by Barilla.

Thanks and good luck!

We have done very little in the way of zoom calls really, just facetime with family. I can’t wait to meet friends out again and have them round for a snack like lunch and kids play, like we used to

My Dads a Paramedic and Mum is a Nurse, both done a combined 83 years for the NHS and still do so much volunteering too, I couldn't be more proud, but MAN have I missed their cuddles!
I haven't seen them now since december, and I cannot wait to have them round, with my nieces and nephews, and have a lovely dinner, play some board games, and just have a good catch up!

My mom! I miss her cooking! She was supposed to come for Easter and cook the first weaning food for my DS but due to the virus, her flight was cancelled Sad

My sister's family. Looking forward to inviting them over for a BBQ on a sunny day, having a good catch-up and feeling that things are getting back to normal.

decadance · 10/07/2020 17:04

Just my Dad and 2 younger sisters, I've missed them so much, without my mum around now they've become my rocks and I've never gone so long without them visiting me and my 5 kids. Can't wait for the biggest hug ever Smile

Looking forward to having a big family get together with my adult children but that is still some way off I fear for health reasons.

MonetManet · 11/07/2020 17:26

My best friend. She lives 200 miles away and I haven’t seen her in over 3 years now.

Nichola Sturgeon. I want to know the insiders realy opinion!

buckley1983 · 14/07/2020 23:07

I would love to have both my parents & my husband's parents with us for dinner - we have missed them all so much & to be able to see them, to hug them & to see them hug their grandson would be so special.
My husband's parents in particular have had it tough (like many, many people) - both over 70 & with health conditions which place them at higher risk, they have been self-isolating in rural Wales & I just know that one hug from their grandson would make all that frustration disappear.
I will never, ever take time with friends & family for granted again!

We usually visit close friends at least once a fortnight but instead, through lockdown have been spending the raving together on zoom. We make them full screen and put them on a chair. It’s been so long now that this feels completely normal and seems like So much less hassle than actually going. Lol!

slithytoveisascientist · 15/07/2020 12:42

We joined in the ve socially distanced celebrations with a picnic on the driveway. My neighbour and I have had weekly driveway drinks, and we have had regular FaceTimes with family. We also had a few game nights over zoom.

I’m looking forward to being able to have my parents over for dinner and an overnight - so I can go out with my husband!

aynsleyred · 15/07/2020 13:04

I’m really looking forward to having my in-laws over for a barbecue. My daughter has missed them so much and my youngest (9 months) has forgotten who they are Sad

After socialising with wine nights on Zoom, I'd like to have two old friends over for dinner. It will be so nice it having to re-enter meeting every 40 minutes!

My best friend I've missed her so much

flowersfromheaven · 23/07/2020 21:06

My sister next week, She found out in the lock down that she had breast cancer and they operated within 2 weeks to remove it and also give her the all clear last week, It as been hard not being able to go and see her all the way through this and not being able to give her a cuddle before the Op. Well next week is her birthday so we have planned to have dinner at mine to catch up.
