Mumsnet users share who they'd invite for dinner after lockdown with Barilla

Lockdown measures are still firmly in place and getting together with friends and family can feel like a distant memory, and it’s easy to daydream about what we’ll do once our daily lives begin to resemble our old version of normality again, including inviting friends or family over. With that in mind, Barilla would like to hear about how you’ve hosted and socialised during lockdown and who you’re most looking forward to welcoming into your home for a big bowl of pasta once this is over.

Have you missed hosting family and friends? Watch Barilla’s cookalong from last week and create a virtually (Grin) perfect Italian night with Gennaro Contaldo.

Here’s what Barilla has to say: “Italians love nothing more than getting friends and family around to share good food and good times. Barilla is the biggest family pasta-maker in Italy, so we’re proud to be right at the heart of those moments. Lots of people have been eating our authentic pasta on lockdown, all around the world. But we know the key ingredient is the other people around the table. So we’ve been looking for ways to help people play host – even if that means, for now, doing so at a distance.”

How are you hosting or taking part in social events during lockdown? Perhaps you’ve been hosting quizzes with friends, taking part in virtual cook alongs or group Zoom calls? Are you eager to host a dinner party with friends once this is over, or to simply have your sister over for drinks once the kids have gone to bed?

All who post below will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £200 voucher towards a weekly food shop (from a supermarket of your choice) provided by Barilla.

Thanks and good luck!

Lots and LOTS of quizzes with varying groups of friends, online games nights..

It's been fun, but equally, am really looking forward to getting round a table with everyone, having a reason to lay the table nicely, use the 'good' glasses and cutlery, and share bread with people, pass around salt, lean over the table to get the wine... just... interaction

MyGodImSoYoung · 16/06/2020 11:16

I'd love to have my DM, my DSis and my D'MIL' over to celebrate my engagement! Lockdown has scuppered any celebrations, other than a social distanced glass of bubbly (and my DFiance couldn't even partake as he drove!).

flowerpower32 · 18/06/2020 06:52

We've done meals over Skype but looking forward to having friends over in the garden to use our new pizza oven!

UnicornsForLife · 18/06/2020 16:07

I would love to have all the family over for a barbecue. Something where everyone could relax and have a proper chat in person.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 18/06/2020 16:45

My brother and BIL.
My friend who's DD's godmother and her baby.
Another friend who's been finding lockdown so hard.
PIL, my parents.

Actually so many people, I'm a sociable person. I like seeing other people , I know so many on MN like being just with their DH and DCs, but I like seeing others as well. I miss people.

claza93 · 18/06/2020 19:22

My mum, sister, her partner and my nieces! I cannot wait to have them round for a big sunday roast and plenty of wine!

Alo2019 · 22/06/2020 14:43

Defiantly would be my sister and partner who recently had my nephew who is absolutely beautiful and 2 weeks old ❤️

LITTLEMUTLEY23 · 23/06/2020 20:40

My whole family parents, siblings and in laws. With lotd of food and wine.

freakfire · 24/06/2020 10:41

A few friends have had babies during lockdown, so I'd love to invite them over and cook something for them (or get a takeaway) once this is all over, and meet their little ones

CatMit86 · 24/06/2020 12:48

My mother in law, she is high risk so hasn’t really been out of the house and hasn’t seen her little grandson in months! That would be a lovely family reunion for us.

Hopezibah · 25/06/2020 14:59

We've missed granny and grandad immensely so seeing them will be top priority! We've managed to stay in touch with most people via zoom call and even managed to take part in zoom quizzes and social "meet ups" via zoom. The kids have had guitar lessons on zoom and stayed in touch with classmates on whats app call. But it is being close to family and granny and grandad in particular that has been the hardest of all because it just isn't the same in some cases by zoom.

Teaspoon74 · 26/06/2020 15:44

A close friend was diagnosed with late stage breast cancer during lockdown and all I want is to have her over and giver her a hug!

I'm shielding as I had cancer treatment late last year through to Feb this so has to be safe for us both.

Can't wait though.

Smile13 · 28/06/2020 19:55

I can’t wait to have my family over for a bbq. Even my sister who is a vegan and takes a bit of extra difficulty catering for! I miss having them come to our home but I’ve enjoyed not having to tidy up ready for visitors!

HavelockVetinari · 28/06/2020 21:08

JK Rowling, for being brave enough to stand up for women and girls. Star

Doggodogington · 29/06/2020 09:54

My group of friends, I have missed them so much. We usually meet up every few weeks and it has been awful not to see their faces for this long.

SusanWalker · 29/06/2020 11:58

My sister and brother in law and my three nieces, plus my brand new great niece who I haven't even held yet!

They're my only remaining family and I miss them so much.

Duckyneedsaclean · 29/06/2020 14:04

I'd invite a few friends for a boozy dinner party. Have definitely missed adult company!

TweetleBeetlesBattle · 29/06/2020 21:41

Nobody! I want to go out and if I have to cook and clear up for even more people in the near future I am going to lose my mind.

PhotoFinder · 30/06/2020 13:12

I just want to have my friends over again for dinner and drinks.

JamieLeeCurtains · 30/06/2020 13:27

I shall invite Graham Linehan. We will play poker and drink Bushmills and talk about ecumenical matters and if Stonehenge is really much smaller than people expect or just very far away.

Yay @Glinner

CrocodileFondue · 30/06/2020 23:49

David Attenborough and Anthony Head.

Possiblywickedandlazy · 01/07/2020 15:34

I’d love to have my four local best friends over for a big meal and lots of wine. We keep each other sane and it feels like so long since I’ve seen them. I’m longing for that sort of relaxed, easy night.

Teaspoon74 · 01/07/2020 16:08

I miss my friends! We love having people over for food and drink and letting the kids play in the garden. It's so hard being distanced and I cannot wait to have my NCT pals and other local friends over for safe drinks and .... hugs!!!

Mariola1984 · 01/07/2020 20:41
