Most people have some fond memories of playing with dolls in their childhood, from sweetly changing their nappy and rocking them to sleep, to taking them everywhere or ‘customising’ what they look like. Baby Annabell would like to find out more about your memories of playing with dolls, as well as how your children play with their dolls.

What was your doll’s name, and do you still like it now? Did your doll cry real tears, drink real water, burp after feeding, or need its nappy changing? Or did you have to make pretend because the technology wasn’t available yet? What were your favourite games to play with your doll? How does your child play with dolls now? How does it differ from how you played with dolls?

Share your memories on this thread and you will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win a £300 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I remember I had a plastic or rubber doll with a ribbon in its hair that i was very fond of. it had the words Pat Pending on the back - I thought this was its name. it actually means patent pending!

I was about 7 and had a baby doll called Anne Marie. I adored her and thought she was beautiful. My friends baby doll, named Cheryl after the Bucks Fizz singer) was not as beautiful as my doll. I remember being really cruel and laughing at this ugly baby and would “accidentally” drop her over the balcony or draw on her face with permanent felt tips. All he time keeping my beautiful Anne Marie safe and happy. Sorry Cheryl .... 😔

I can remember getting the original Tiny Tears which you could feed and it seemed amazing at the time!

I loved baby dolls, and playing a mummy.I had a case that I carried around with me with all the baby essentials including real baby clothes. I used to go with my grandad every Sunday morning to get the papers and a pack of softmints with Emily (my dolly) in her pram. She was even known to share her pram with my best friend in the whole wide world Sherry the Cavalier King Charles pup.

I was an only child and always played with my dolls, I loved them so much.
My aunties knitted clothes for them and blankets and hats. They all looked lovely. X

I don't remember playing with dolls apart from cabbage patch ones. I generally played with Pound Puppies and My little Ponies.

I had a doll called Julie. My mum and dad transported her to France in the boot of the car, and her hair was shoved on end. It still sticks up today. And now she is my daughter's doll...!

I hated dolls. Terrified of them.

I used to read in bed. Once my mum put a doll in my bed. I reached down the side of the bed and turned on the hidden torch so I could read. Doll glowed Orange next to me. I screamed the house down. Hated dolls even more after that.
