From wacky lunchboxes to inventive snacks designed to get your kids to eat well, school packed lunches are a key part of the back to school preparation. It can take a lot of trial and error to make nutritious packed lunches that are also fun and appealing, and anything that makes life easier in this department is often welcomed.

Here’s what Twining’s have to say:
“We all know how difficult it can be to get children to eat well without compromising on fun or filling their lunch boxes with boring meals! That’s why we’ve produced our new Kids Cold In’fuse range, made by using natural ingredients only. Developed in partnership with children, the product offers a fun way to encourage kids to consume more water and is a sugar free alternative to fruit juices and cordials, which can have a high sugar content. By simply adding the infusion bags to their water bottles and giving it a quick shake, children can enhance their water with delicious flavours including; Strawberry Lemonade, Mango & Orange and Blackcurrant & Apple. Not only that, but all the products in the range have been specially developed to ensure that the acidity level is safe for children’s tooth enamel.

As part of the launch, we are supporting Public Health England’s Change4Life campaign, which encourages families to cut back on sugar by making a few simple swaps to everyday food and drink. With children heading back to school this September, we encourage everyone to make the simple swap in their packed lunches and let us know what you think!”

What is your child’s favourite part of their packed lunch? Have you created a fun twist on an otherwise boring snack? Maybe you put a fun note into their lunchbox every so often as a surprise?

Share the fun ways you make your children’s packed lunches appealing on the post below and all who do so will be entered into a prize draw where 1 MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Variety is the key with my girl, my boys like the same thing everyday! Dips and crudites, crackers and cheese, pasta, cous cous, rice, wraps, bagels anything that's different

KittyKat88 · 09/09/2019 23:40

My DDs enjoy their packed lunches - I try to let them choose what to put in, but always encourage fruit and a bit of salad alongside their other snacks. I never pack juices, only water. DD2 is very fussy which limits her food choices and means many of her lunches are repetitive but she doesn't seem to mind because at least she'll eat it all!

BumpkinSpiceBatty · 10/09/2019 11:09

I involve my dd to shop for the food for her lunch. She also seems to eat more fruit if I have cut it up for her!

SuzCG · 10/09/2019 11:51

A treat hidden at the bottom of their packed lunch bag. If other stuff starts to come home, the treat disappears. It's only there if all the other good stuff is being eaten!

lemonjam · 10/09/2019 15:39

My dd loves it when I draw on her banana!

bibolda · 10/09/2019 17:59

My daughter loves a lots of different foods. I try to pack her healthy things. It is hard because she can not have nuts in the packs.
I usually pack vegetables with hummus and fruits and also some mini sandwiches what I make at home with cheese spread and a slice of ham, sometimes with avocado cream.
Put yogurt on the side for her.
And I like to give her healthy drinks less in sugar or just have natural sugars.

Mine love to help make packed lunches, it's messy and more time consuming but it's the lunch that's always eaten so I try to do it as often as possible

whataconundrum · 11/09/2019 22:36

I put stickers in the lunchbox once a week and put a smiley face on an orange for them

ptak5566 · 12/09/2019 07:24

Don't overload or it can be off putting! I cut up sandwiches to child size portions, or add coloured pastas & rices. Colourful fruit always looks appealing as does strips of colourful veg. I always let them choose a little treat to put in as well.

Noxid · 12/09/2019 07:35

My children eat anything in their packed lunch. Sandwiches with cheese or chicken are favourite at the moment accompanied by yoghurt, fresh fruit (whole)and carrot batons and a reusable bottle of water they used to have crisps but asked not to have them any more

123hartley123 · 12/09/2019 07:37

I wrap each item in foil to keep fresh and a surprise. The art is to give a variety of foods each day

bevmichelle47 · 12/09/2019 07:55

I cut fruit and veg into funny shapes and pop them into a plastic container with a little drizzle of reduced sugar mayo ontop. They always come home empty.

abigailflo7 · 12/09/2019 07:55

My daughter loves wraps instead of sandwiches and I buy the yogurts in the squeezable tubes which she loves. You can pick up some fab lunchboxes with separate compartments to make lunches more fun!

Kearr · 12/09/2019 07:56

I try and not to give them the same things every day, I use different sorts of bread, wraps and rolls and different snacks that I know they like (and a few new ones they can try). Also a few different items so they can pick and choose what they eat.

renas · 12/09/2019 08:00

I use to cut my boys sandwiches into fun shapes using biscuit cutters

AR2012 · 12/09/2019 08:03

Variety in the lunch box helps, one day might be sandwiches the next tortilla etc

Sezza110 · 12/09/2019 08:12

I add fruit cut into shapes and try to do wraps, rice etc instead of just sandwiches.

Lorraine37 · 12/09/2019 08:29

When my son was younger I use to make his sandwiches using different shaped cutters and made them in to faces with different fillings/toppings. Fun to eat and easier for small hands.

Danny2000m · 12/09/2019 08:32

Funky shaped sandwiches work for me.

juju3 · 12/09/2019 08:33

Always include a small treat or favourite along with the healthy stuff

hkswain · 12/09/2019 08:33

I love trialling fun salads - my kids are the only ones who have feta and grape and then a Caesar salad in the same week!

omgitslani · 12/09/2019 08:42

Making shapes out of food is always fun, such as using cutters on sandwiches. Or using lots of different coloured fruit and veg to make the lunch aesthetically pleasing. I sometimes also leave little notes in their lunches; it started with smiley faces and hearts when they were very small and moved onto to simple sentences when they learned how to read.

jazzitup · 12/09/2019 08:48

My little one loves tomatoes so I pack them in plus fruit, veg sticks, even cutting them in to funny shapes to make it fun x

ssam777 · 12/09/2019 08:48

let them help make up the lunch box the night before so they know what will be inside

shellywkd · 12/09/2019 08:49

My daughter likes to help make her lunch. We try to make it colourful with peppers and dips. When she was younger we used to cut the sandwiched into different shapes.
