From wacky lunchboxes to inventive snacks designed to get your kids to eat well, school packed lunches are a key part of the back to school preparation. It can take a lot of trial and error to make nutritious packed lunches that are also fun and appealing, and anything that makes life easier in this department is often welcomed.

Here’s what Twining’s have to say:
“We all know how difficult it can be to get children to eat well without compromising on fun or filling their lunch boxes with boring meals! That’s why we’ve produced our new Kids Cold In’fuse range, made by using natural ingredients only. Developed in partnership with children, the product offers a fun way to encourage kids to consume more water and is a sugar free alternative to fruit juices and cordials, which can have a high sugar content. By simply adding the infusion bags to their water bottles and giving it a quick shake, children can enhance their water with delicious flavours including; Strawberry Lemonade, Mango & Orange and Blackcurrant & Apple. Not only that, but all the products in the range have been specially developed to ensure that the acidity level is safe for children’s tooth enamel.

As part of the launch, we are supporting Public Health England’s Change4Life campaign, which encourages families to cut back on sugar by making a few simple swaps to everyday food and drink. With children heading back to school this September, we encourage everyone to make the simple swap in their packed lunches and let us know what you think!”

What is your child’s favourite part of their packed lunch? Have you created a fun twist on an otherwise boring snack? Maybe you put a fun note into their lunchbox every so often as a surprise?

Share the fun ways you make your children’s packed lunches appealing on the post below and all who do so will be entered into a prize draw where 1 MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I try and use enough colours to make a rainbow looking lunch!

sm2012 · 13/09/2019 18:50

I try to make them a bit different each day - different fillings and bits to go with their sandwiches/rolls like cheese, mini sausages, strawberries, blueberries, breadsticks and dips, salad bits. I always make them so I would be happy to eat them!

LeeR1985 · 13/09/2019 20:08

I just give my daughter a lot of variety so she never gets bored of it. I always got the same sandwiches and hated it so I mix it up a bit with my daughter and give her new things :)

lhlee62 · 13/09/2019 22:39

My kids are pretty happy to eat everything I put in their lunchboxes, I do try and mix it up with different fruit or different yoghurt. I did put smiley faces in their boxes once which they thought was hilarious, but it's not something I have time for every day. They do have a friend who has the same thing everyday and doesn't like anything changed at all!

Nicole1709 · 13/09/2019 23:31

Add little messages in their packed lunch! My mum used to do this for me and I would get so excited to find my note for the day, so I try and follow this tradition.

poppypants · 14/09/2019 07:47

Make lunch time fun and healthy, make home make pizza's (which they can put in lunch boxes) home made flapjacks and grated carrot and cheese, and make cut sandwiches in funny shapes with biscuit cutters

Bellroyd · 14/09/2019 09:32

Encourage them to help in making it. Pop a little surprise sat the bottom. Use some of their favourite items. Make it colourful. Write little notes inside.

Lisapaige24 · 14/09/2019 11:16

Make everything into shapes or faces so its more appealing to them

sheilads105 · 14/09/2019 12:11

I like to include little notes or drawings or jokes....something to bring them joy.

purplevamp · 14/09/2019 22:25

When my children were younger I got them to help me make their packed lunches. They would choose mini pittas with cheese or ham and I'd pop in a mini cheese and some mini biscuits. Not very healthy by today's standards but at least they ate them.

farhanac · 14/09/2019 23:45

Occasionally I put a note in the lunchbox with a surprise message

xcxcsophiexcxc · 15/09/2019 08:11

Little man is easy as he loves his ham and cheese sandwiches and a satsuma

Helsbells68 · 15/09/2019 08:37

The had more or less the same sandwiches each day and were quite happy to eat them, we just let them choose the fillings.

sootyo · 15/09/2019 10:52

Pop in a hand written joke, so that they are interested to look inside and associate it with positive feelings.

xaphan77 · 15/09/2019 12:01

the kids seem to prefer when we vary it - and try to include a treat which isnt too bad for them i.e popcorn

sarah861421 · 15/09/2019 14:06

I have tried making different shapes and things but they dont seem to care they are more interested in the food. My son had exactly the same every day for seven years and always ate it very happily Two jam sandwiches, one choc bar ( penguin etc ) and some crisps

princesssmitheee · 15/09/2019 15:06

I do a lot of baking so I make sure I do a really healthy lunch but a nice little cake for afters

Belynda1 · 15/09/2019 16:04

I draw smiley faces on the cherry tomatoes with edible pen, my daughter say they make all her friends laugh and smile

dadshere · 15/09/2019 18:41

We hide little notes in her box to cheer her up and let her know we are thinking of her. Sometimes we put little joke items too like plastic spiders.

Marg2k8 · 15/09/2019 19:33

I never used to make packed lunches fun. My kids were quite happy with a sandwich or a roll, some fruit and a penguin biscuit. Sometimes varied a bit, but I didn't put notes in, or sweets in and no stickers or fancy wrappings.

Ikea1234 · 15/09/2019 20:05

Getting them involved in making their own lunch, fun little notes in their box, character food, fun shaped sandwiches....whatever works, go with it!

annarack99 · 15/09/2019 20:13

A bento box style lunchbox works for my children. They love small portions of different things, rather than one main sandwich/dish.

michael888 · 15/09/2019 21:33

We prepare our DC lunches bento style. The food is packed in cute boxes, often smaller boxes inside a larger one. It makes opening up the containers fun for them as they like up see what's inside. The food is also prepared decoratively in the same bento style.

becks213 · 16/09/2019 00:32

I buy lots of different fruit and change it up every day for my daughter to keep it interesting. She loves fruit and tells me it's exciting to see what I have done everyday for her

mistywillow17 · 16/09/2019 07:37

Basic but varied works for us - sandwiches, but with different fillings, fruit, but different kinds - basically easy foods to make and to eat, but changing them around so they don't get too boring.
