We all know that vitamins and minerals are vital to the human body and help us grow, see properly, help make bones, muscles and organs stay healthy. However the difficult part is ensuring that you and your children have all the right vitamins and minerals in your system...especially with vitamin D, as we live in a fairly sun-deprived country Sad. Therefore Noluma would love to know all the ways you ensure your children are getting all the vitamins and minerals they need.

Here’s what Noluma, the authority in light protection of packaging, has to say: “Scientific research shows that packaged goods can be negatively impacted when exposed to indoor lights such as retail lighting or LED lights in the kitchen. This causes the quality, freshness, flavour and more importantly, nutritional qualities to deteriorate. So if you think you are giving your children a glass of milk and getting those valuable nutrients into them this way, you might want to think again! Unless the milk bottle or carton comes in light protected packaging, chances are the product has degraded before it reaches the ‘use by’ date. This is especially true of see-through glass bottles. Here at Noluma, we are the only authority in light protection technology that certifies packaging using our patented state-of-the-art assessment process. We are uniquely able to measure all types of packaging for its ability to protect against damage due to both natural and artificial light, and to stop content change due to light exposure. Visit lightdamageisreal.co.uk to find out more”

Do you sneak vitamins filled fruit and veg into their meals? If so do you have any recipes or techniques you could share? Or maybe you don’t need to and your children are very good at eating lots of fruit and vegetables? Perhaps you like to make sure they’re outdoors as much as possible so they’re getting lots of great sunlight? Or maybe you know of some child-friendly vitamin supplements that help your children get all the nutrients they need?

Whatever your tips and tricks are for getting vitamins and minerals into your children, share them on the thread below and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I like to make sure my 2 have as much fruit and vegetables as possible

dannyelle · 08/06/2019 17:20

Their favourite fruits blended up into a tasty frozen smoothie!

ceejayen · 08/06/2019 18:09

A balanced diet of protein, fruit and veg delivers all necessary nutrients needed.

moosexxx · 08/06/2019 18:15

Our children take vitamin supplements.

juicylucywb · 08/06/2019 18:26

I'm lucky because all my children love fruit and vegetables, so they have quite a good diet. I also give them a jelly vitamin each day just to top it up.

bevmichelle47 · 08/06/2019 18:38

I put the veg & fruit in a blender and make smoothies, they absolutely love them and take them in their packed lunch, plus they have one with their meal when they come home..

sofieellis · 08/06/2019 18:38

I didn't like the idea of hiding things in their food, but I didn't need to, as they all ate fruit and veg easily.

freefan · 08/06/2019 19:58

After finding out this year that I am now needing supplemented for life due to vitamin deficiency I have through all the reading I have done realised that sadly despite having a good, varied healthy diet, living in the Northern Hemisphere means we should all really be taking supplements especially of vitamin D3 during the winter.
Due to this I also now give my children a good all round multi -vitamin daily alongside their usual healthy diet to keep them as healthy as I can to hopefully prevent them needing long term medication when older.

a balanced diet, plenty of fresh air and a chewy multi vitamin.

twinklenicci · 08/06/2019 20:22

my youngest has a chewy multivitamin but i do try to get her to eat fruit and veg too

avery64 · 08/06/2019 20:38

As a family we love to grow, pick, cook and eat a wide variety of fruit and veg (supplemented by bought ones we cannot grow) We never have takeways or ready meals. Where would the fun be in that? Gardening ensures we all get our Vitamin D and half our plate is veggies so I don't feel the need for vitamin supplements.

Fruit in the lunch boxes is a must. I make a mini fruit salad from berried and apples that goes down well. Also the vitamins you can buy that a like little gummy sweets, so taking extra vitamins does not become a battle.

BlueBoy1969 · 08/06/2019 21:03

I blend the veg and use it in sauces such as a spag Bol.

sophiefx · 08/06/2019 21:13

I'm lucky my little girl will take vitamins quite easily. We use the Mr.Men vitamins which seem to be more appealing to children!

lhlee62 · 08/06/2019 22:26

I give them a nice varied diet, they occasionally have some vitamins as we were given some from a relative that look like packets of sweets so they seem them as an occasion treat.

sarahm1234 · 08/06/2019 22:38

I try and give my daughter a healthy, balanced diet but she is such a fussy eater so I give her a multi vitamin everyday to top up what she is lacking.

Moonlight1 · 09/06/2019 08:21

We try to give a balanced diet as much as possible, which means plenty of fruit and vegetables. We are sometimes a little sneaky with vegetables to make sure they get enough

mollymoo818 · 09/06/2019 08:35

I try my best to make sure they get enough vitamins and minerals through their diet by incorporating a variety of different food sources and adding extra veggies into things sneakily like by grating in carrots to sauces etc. I am a little bit paranoid though that I am not doing enough so I also give them a chewable multi vitamin daily too.
I am fascinated to read about light degradation and will have to look into it more.

phillie1 · 09/06/2019 08:51

Balanced diet, with lots of fruit on hand always

dadshere · 09/06/2019 09:38

We used to give dd multivitamins but now we focus on a balanced and nutritious diet.

Catmadroo · 09/06/2019 11:20

My son loves fruit so has plenty during the day so i don't worry about multivitamins or minerals

Marg2k8 · 09/06/2019 12:28

Mt children are grown up now, but I still worry about their diet.

finleypop · 09/06/2019 12:55

Introduce the correct diet when weaning, stick with it when they pull a face & they will grow up wanting to eat the right stuff. No tricks needed

Mariobug25 · 09/06/2019 13:10

I try and get as much vitamins and minerals in my kids through diet - but I’m also well aware that I do have two terrible eaters so it can be tricky! My son has a chewable vitamin every night for bed and my daughter has vitamin drops at night too. It makes me feel reassured that they are getting what they need.

danigrace · 09/06/2019 13:21

Thankfully our almost 2 year old still loves fruit and vegetables and eats them by the bucket load, I just pray it lasts because it's mostly sheer luck I think!
