Whether you’re going on a day out or on holiday, the journeys to your destination and back can make or break the entire trip. They help to determine if you have memories of a BIG adventure or a disappointing day. Arla would like to hear about your best and worst travel stories.

Here’s what Arla Big Milk has to say: “We know how important it is to get your little explorers out in the world around them, so we’ve partnered with Magic Light to bring you yearlong BIG Adventures. We’re also running an on pack monthly prize draw, available across UK grocery retailers, to give you the chance to win an amazing trip to Chessington World of Adventures Resort. Helping to fuel these BIG Adventures, Arla Big Milk is simply fresh whole milk that’s enriched with essential nutrients. So, if you want to join in on the adventure, come visit our site to explore activities for your Easter holidays.”

Do you have any travel stories that were memorable for all the wrong reasons? Perhaps you’ve experienced the misfortune of a child vomiting all over the back seats of the car or all over you following too many sweets? Perhaps you checked into your hotel and found that you’d got the date wrong? Have you had to fill time after your flight was delayed playing a dreaded game of eye-spy for hours on end?

Or, maybe you’ve been lucky in your travels and you managed to sleep throughout an entire journey, arriving bright eyed and bushy tailed at your destination? Perhaps you remember a journey where your children gave up bickering and actually liked each other for once? Perhaps you’ve been unexpectedly upgraded to first class or premium service and lapped up the free luxury?

Share either your best or your worst travel story on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Worst journey was a flight sat in front of a projectile vomiting child. Absolute nightmare and the parents were useless at dealing with it!

Best journey was a cruise to New York. Relaxing and great food.

worst road trip was going to legoland. My lil boy is a HUGE lego fan. He was feeling unwell on the journey but i thought it was just the travelling. We arrived at legoland and he was sick within 10 mins of arriving. We went to the resort hotel and he spent the whole time being sick. We'd only booked for one night and we were leaving the next day so no one got to see any of legoland! We have been back since though! No sickness bug that time! Second time lucky! haha

The day we did a very long journey in a car without air-con and the driver wouldn't stop. DD felt sick and had to vomit into my empty (takeaway) coffee cup which I had to hold on to for the rest of the trip - bleurgh.

Best and worst, driving on frozen roads exploring Iceland. Best because it was stunningly beautiful, worst because parts of it were so scary when a blizzard swept in and roads were shut down with no alternative route. I'd do it again though.

Worst journey I had was years ago when returning by train from Berlin to the ferry port in Holland late at night. The train split in two and I ended up stranded in Cologne with no money. Had to sleep rough and then sneak onto another train the next day, Was freezing cold and starving by the time I made it home!

Flying alone with my toddler when she was getting over an ear infection. The doctor had cleared her to fly but she was not over it enough. Also she met her first non-White person who was sat next to us and it freaked her out and she screamed and screamed (thankfully he was very understanding!). The last half hour of the flight the pressure change made her already sore ear much much more sore and she screamed non-stop until we landed.

But after we got off the plane she pointed at it and asked to go back on again Grin

On the way back from Turkey, I could not stop vomiting. I ate a lot of tinned fruit from the hotel buffet desert stand the night before and I was feeling so sick, and let it all out in the air. Worse of all, I was sat in the middle with a stranger closest to the aisle who had his seatbelt off and was ready to go as soon as we hit the tarmac back in Manchester.

On a way back from a caravan holiday in wales, my daughter ate her body weight in peanuts.. We then hit a few roundabouts quite close to each other and I'm sure you can guess... Vomit all over the back of the drivers chair, the back seat and all over her

Worst - waking up to a man burgling our apartment!

Marg2k8 · 02/04/2019 22:51

Worst travel journey was only 20 miles on a motorway, but took several hours when the motorway was closed due to an accident and traffic was at a standstill. Not fun with a child on board.

I went to Austria with my school for a ski trip, it was the worst journey I have ever been on as it took 27 hours by coach and I couldn't sleep at all but the trip itself was fantastic and I had the best time ever and found a new love for skiing as I had never been before, only problem was I had to do the 27 hour coach trip home too!

The Gatwick drone fiasco

My six month old was on his first flight to Majorca and had a major leaky poo incident just before take off. We were waiting for the seat-belt light to go off and when it did about 20 stags (from different parties) jumped up to go to the toilet. They had been drinking a lot, well on their way to Magaluf! One of the older stags grabbed me and put me and my baby at the front of the queue. I was so grateful and I'd say a lot of other passengers were too!

A journey to Scotland at Christmas in a blizzard had us run out of milk and nappies after 8 hours with three kids under 3. A detour with a twin with bronchiolitis to a local hospital and passing multiple abandoned vehicles. Never again will we go to Scotland from Norfolk at Christmas.

thesockgap · 03/04/2019 16:39

Most of my "worst travel stories" involve DC3 vomiting either all over the back seat of the car, or into carrier bags scrambled from the boot at a few seconds' notice. Terrible car sickness. Means we can never plan any journey of more than about half an hour, or not without breaking it up with numerous stops anyway! One of these days I've promised myself I'll visit Cornwall, but with it being a 7 hour drive from here, it's not likely to happen any time soon....

laurac1987 · 03/04/2019 17:48

We flew to Iceland in December ready for new year. We turned up at the multistory car park with plenty of time to find there were no spaces, even though we'd prepaid and booked weeks in advance. We got stuck in a LOT of traffic and parked cars blocking the car park and spent the next hour and a half trying to drive round to find a space and trying to figure out what to do. In the end, if we didn't get into the airport, we were going to miss our flight, so we sort of just dumped the car in a reserved parking spot that suddenly appeared and ran. We just made the flight and somehow, didn't end up with a parking ticket. I was VERY stressed!

Not me but my dad once had someone be sick on his head on a rough ferry crossing! He was on the deck and he looked up because he heard a cough from above and someone on the upper deck puked over the side...

Laurajjj561 · 03/04/2019 19:17

Hi worse trip ever went to Scotland for a week last year with my 3 boys.my youngest was only 8 months we stayed in a premier inn so we had to bring loads of stuff with us like cool box’s bottles formula and we had to eat out every day.there wasn’t much restaurant that done food that my son could eat and one of the restaurant we went in was really dirty.dirty knives and forks and plates.and then my little boy got really sick cause it was to warm ☹️ He’s 18 months now and at a better age to go on holiday I just felt like crying the whole time it wasn’t good at all

Lisapaige24 · 03/04/2019 23:09

Best holiday when we went Florida and the kids faces lit up at Disney world and the worst is when we went to Spain and it rained for the whole week

PickledChicory · 03/04/2019 23:19

My DSis lives at the other end of the country from me. Me and dh plan was to drive to hers overnight and drive in shifts/sleep in shifts.
We got there in about 10hrs but the sleeping bit didnt go to plan. We were sweaty and groggy when we got there....so much for gaining a day me and dh totally broken. Kids after sleeping the duration were on great formGrin

AnimalAddict · 04/04/2019 08:40

Worst was a 4 hour boat trip where I was sick the entire time, it was awful

Bellroyd · 04/04/2019 09:51

Best experience was on an Emirates flight to The Maldives. All the stewarding staff were excellent and they went out of their way to make sure our travel experience was top notch.

chrissy53438 · 04/04/2019 10:50

Best: I won business class flights to Sri Lanka!
Worst: breaking my arm in Portugal.

Shesawinner1989 · 04/04/2019 12:22

Two words: travel sickness

MakeTeaNotWar · 04/04/2019 14:28

My worst journey was travelling from London to DFW, Texas. I was on mat leave and thought I should visit my brother with my 11 month old before my return to work. Except she had just starting walking and we toddled the whole way up and down the aisle. For 10 hours. Exhausting
