To be self employed completely by the end of 2019 - providing more flexibility and family friendly hours. The only way I can get there is by doubling the business in our family business - allowing us both to be self-employed. It's going to take a LOT of work but will be worth it!

@tryinganewname I remember that place returning from maternity leave. I had the fear but can honestly say it's not as bad as I ever thought it was going to be. Good luck with it!

I was a full time secondary school teacher before I had an accident a few years ago. Surgery and ongoing medical problems (and the sheer amount of medication I’m on) means that I can’t work in the classroom anymore, but I do some one to one/small group tutoring and I’m an examiner.
I would love to pick up more work I can do from home, preferably writing related, but I know that it is difficult to break into that area and to make money from it.

Does anyone have any tips for homeworking? I just cant continue working non stop and missing out on my daughters childhood.

Auntpetunia2015 · 31/12/2018 05:28

Having moved area after divorce and given up my job of 15 years, I’ve had a few months off to settle in and help my autistic daughter adjust. Now I’m applying for jobs. So far out of 15 applications for jobs I know I can do easily (all a level below my last job) Ive had one interview..starting to think my age is now a barrier! Need a new plan , which might include college.

Starting new job on Monday after 4 years of misery at top Russell group university. Moving to another one but am hoping it will be better with no bullying! Personally am looking to add to my experience in managing degree programmes, build and sustain a happy and productive team/department. Leave work at 5 cos it is not hell run by a demon and be home to my 2 young children at 6pm.

I don't think this is too much to ask for.

Trying to beat my anxieties and hold on to what others tell me - I am good at my job!

Wish me luck!

I am considering turning my hobby in to a small business for a bit of extra income, I already bake for friends and family (free, if they insist then a donation to my chosen charity, as I can't take payment due to not being registered etc)

I am looking in to what I need to do to pass an inspection from the council, and whether the costs will work out being worth my time once you add in ingredients/time/electricity/decorations/insurance/packaging etc

I'm not totally sure yet as I need more information and to do more calculations and local research, but if it makes financial sense then I hope to go ahead with it

I plan to hopefully return to work this year and have been doing lots of volunteering and training in various sectors relating to children so my CV is uptodate and I have something to show for the time while I have been off work with my children.

I want a change of career and to find something that fulfills me and makes me happy to be in work and be part of a team that isn’t always moaning!!

MN jobs is rubbish imo - hardly anything in Scotland and nothing at the kind of salary I'd need

Hi @sunshineNdaisies I work for Mumsnet Jobs team and we decided to put this thread together to get our users to share what they are looking for and what they are expecting to gain career-wise in 2019. Sorry to hear you haven't found what you're looking for on the Mumsnet Job board but we are doing our best to get more employers across the UK to offer flexibility.

In regards to your location, we do get a few jobs coming from Scotland. If you don't mind me asking but have you signed up to our job alerts?

We appreciate this feedback, so please do let us know how we can help. Thanks

Hi @AlliKaneErikson we currently have this Home-based Writing Editor role advertised on Mumsnet Jobs.
You can find the role here

No I haven't because it's mostly NHS jobs, nothing relevant to my skills or experience, and nothing around the £40,000 salary I'd be looking for (not willing to take a pay cut!)

Flexibility shouldn't mean low skilled, low paid jobs.
