Our video team here at MNHQ are considering creating a video series on computer games - they would be expert led and the idea is that the series would be a helpful resource for parents.

However, before we give the go ahead or not, we would love to find out what you guys think about the idea! Smile

What sort of questions would you like answered? Would you want it to cover more basic stuff like picking a console and understanding online gaming etc. Or more advanced topics, such as explaining popular new releases and trends, advanced tips for parents, and watching e-sports?

Whatever your thoughts/ideas are on MNHQ creating a video series on computer games, please comment on the thread below what you’d like to know about computer games and you will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £50 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

I'm interested in recommendations for educational video games which teach a little bit of history, geography etc.

What the PEGI ratings mean. By which i mean X game has a Pegi rating of Y. This is because it has this, this and this in it.
Lots of parents dont realise how realistic, gory and unsuitable some games can be until their children play them.
Also, reviews of new consoles/hardware. Are they child friendly, parental controls extensive and the target audience (xbox target audience is much older than nintento for example)

I'd like to know more about games - eg: are they multiplayer, online/offline, why the age rating they have etc, without me having to extensively play it for days before letting my son play it. For example, Fortnite - what's it all about?!

I think a series about video games would be great for parents who aren't aware of things like parental controls and video game content. I think some parents let their kids play certain games that aren't age appropriate because they aren't aware of the game content.

I’d like to know how much is too much and the risk from other gamers and how this can be monitored. It would also be good to know about the latest trends in gaming and the current top games Smile

Be good to have one aimed at educating parents on what games their kids are playing and any hidden dangers, also guidance on age ratings and why they are there.
I have a constant battle with my oldest two whose friends are 'ALL' playing Grand Theft Auto or some equally awful game with an 18+ rating and I am made to feel like I am in the wrong as I now stop my children from visiting these friends houses as the parents insist there is no harm, and cannot guarantee they won't be playing.

Id like to know the differences and between each console and price comparrisons, as trying to work out which offers the most for the best price can be challenging as there are so many available.
And id love to see a video on how to access parental controls, in regards to online gaming and who can message whilst playing on a console.

I would be really interested in ideas how to stop the temper tantrums when asked to come of the iPads, any educational apps and games that actually interest certain ages. As well as age specific games, some of the games the kids ask to have and play because their friends are playing them are totally not appropriate at all. Parental control is a really big topic.

Id love to know how to limit online time and how to activate the parental locks on a console. That is the most important thing for me.

our DCs are older and totally clued up, so we probably would have no need of this video but it is a great idea for parents with younger DCs

I think it's a great idea! One area that I think should definitely be covered is safety/security - lots of console games are played online, and I've seen lots of posts on various places online about kids getting involved in inappropriate conversations/giving out personal details to complete strangers...a guide to safety would be fab!

Hi all,

Head of Video here. Thanks so much for your input - the general themes that keep popping up are online safety, limiting interaction and current trends.

We think there is enough demand to try a pilot - which will launch in around a month's time, hosted by a video game journalist/expert.

We will post it in the gaming forum when it lands on YouTube - we'd be happy to hear any comments you have when in launches.

Josh

I'd like to know what games are available and suitable for specific age groups. I know they have 12, 18 etc on the boxes, but what does this actually mean in terms of the content. Parental control options and advice would also be helpful, especially as I believe most consoles can access the internet now.
